The Y.E.S. program involves a special class at Disney that lasts for about 3 hours (google the Y.E.S. program for more specific info) on one day of your trip. Classes range from learning about ocean animals to participating in a behind-the-scenes look at the science behind the rides at Magic Kingdom. There are hands on activities, and the kids usually special privileges to ride a few attractions before the park opens in order to discuss the science behind them.
My girls (who will be ages 6 and 7 next summer) love science, so we thought this program sounded perfect for them (we're coordinating the "How Things Move" class for ages 5-8). The added bonus, of course, is the group discounted park tickets - right now, listed for $166 for a six-day park hopper (over $100 savings per ticket!). For each child taking the class, the group is allowed to purchase a discounted park ticket for one child and one adult. This will end up saving our family of 4 (2 kids taking the class) almost $500, AND our kids will get to participate in a neat behind-the-scenes class!
Currently, we have 7 confirmed kids - so we're looking for at least 3 more to make a group, tentatively for June 3.
If you're interested, there are a few things of which you should be aware:
1. Our "group" is allowed two chaperones, one slot of which is already spoken for. If you'd like to attend the class with your kids, let me know so I can place you in the other slot.
2. Adults are allowed to purchase one discounted ticket for every child taking a class. In other words, a family of two adults and two kids could buy 4 discounted tickets, but if only one of your children participated in the class, you could purchase only one child and one adult discounted ticket.
3. We need to provide payment to Disney at least 8 weeks in advance for the group. The easiest way to do this will probably be to pay me (as the group leader), have the tickets mailed to me, and I can then mail them to each family. The tickets are flexible by 7 days on either end our group's visit.
