June 2007 Rate/Code Watch

Hi Everyone! :yay:

I have NO idea what I'm doing here yet! :confused3 A brand new WDW virgin, but have just booked a land / sea package w/ Costco. That will put us there at the end of July and now trying to figure if we'll add days before the land/sea package begins or after the cruise.

Anyone tell me which would be more economical? Are rates better in late July or early August normally? Trying to see if our land/sea includes park tickets, then what to do as well!

:dance3:

DD and I considered skipping WDW this year to save for a cruise next year....
:boat: :sail:
But we just can't wait that long...... :beach:
So..... we decided to make our usual June trip!!
Need to get a really great deal..... looking for CSR again!!! :thumbsup2

 We did the opposite...canceled our Med cruise to go with friends to WDW...
This is the only forum I can write that and not get a million and one "Are you Crazy??? " replies sent my way!

Now my DH really wants to cruise too in the Fall... the grass is always greener......

We're headed to the Polynesian for ten nights for the fourth of July week, there's nothing out yet but Disney told me to watch around March, April or May sometime. Last year there was the park ticket's discount and then they came out with one for the dining plan for around August '06. To get those I think are just as good if not better sometimes than room discounts. Well, I'm booked and ready to go, lets see what they come out with, it's good that we can still apply any discounts before making final payment.

We are a group of 14 (new grads and families) from the Texas panhandle going to CSR June 4-11. A dining plan break would be great for us!!!!

Yeah, I got an email from our travel agent telling us about the new discount! It offers a discount on the room rate and a free upgrade to park hopper/magic plus passes, but since we'll be in a deluxe room at WL (we have 5 people in our group) we can't use the new discount :sad2: I'm bummed. We could change our reservation to two standard rooms, but then it'd be putting my mom in a room by herself and we just don't want to do that. Plus it would only be a savings of $160 for us (for a 7 night stay). Oh, well.

I'm sorry you can't use that one, but, keep the faith, Disney told me, as they did last year, may very well come out sometime around feb-mar-april-may with another one we both can use. Enjoy your trip!

The new package announced today appears to go through June. Hopefully, July cannot be too far on the horizon...

Did they offer anything in july last year? Last time we went was 03 and they offered some discount on our package, I hope we get lucky again.

This will be our third trip to WDW in July but only the first where I'm aware of the DIS! How will I know if there is a discount code? Our dates are 6/29 thru 7/7 at POP. I'm planning on doing the actual booking through the DisneyWorld website on Thursday the 18th. If a discount code comes out after booking, how can I apply it? Is it better to go through AAA? Also, can I make ADRs if I haven't actually booked the trip?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm still learning how to make the most out of my trip!:cheer2:

I'll try and help you with some answers.

To track discount offers, keep your eyes on this thread, if and when a discount for our time period is released, someone will post it. Generally watch the Codes & Rates board, typically there is a bit of a heads up just prior to release of a discount code/offer/rate. The DIS also has a discount area in the wdw information area. Finally, check Mousesavers--Mary is quick about posting new offers as well.

If you have AAA, when you book on the 18th, see if there are any AAA rates available for your dates/hotel. You will receive a 20% discount on a room only and that is certainly better than nothing. You do not need to go through AAA to book a AAA rate--you simply apprise the reservation agent that you would like a AAA rate. Rather than booking online, I would advise calling Disney directly 800-828-0228 that way you are able to check the AAA discount rates.

If a discount becomes available after booking, just call Disney and ask if that discount code could be applied to your reservation. Sometimes the code will not apply to a res because there is no availability at a particular resort or for the time you are visiting, i.e., the resort was already fairly well sold out and no discount needed to be offered to fill it.

I personally prefer not to use AAA--I want to control my own res and if I use AAA I can't do that. It's a matter of preference for you.

ADRs w/o booking--I have to punt on that one--never tried it. I will say that since the booking window has opened for your dates, I don't know why you couldn't book them w/o a res--I have never done it, so I really am unsure of the answer. Call the # I gave above and give it a shot--it's toll free and you'll have your answer soon enough.

One last, unsolicited piece of advice, you did not indicate whether you were seeking a "package" or "room only" res. Just remember, if you book a package, you have a longer cancellation period than a room only and if a discount is offered, it may be offered close in time to the date of your res. This might preclude you from taking advantage of a non-package discount if offered. I prefer not to book packages because I was burned one year w/just that scenario. I could have saved much more w/a room only res and tickets purchased separately, but the offer came out inside my 45 day window and I was stuck with the package. The package too was a discounted package, but not as good a deal as the room only. Anyway, take that for what it's worth. :flower3:

Have a great vacation & fun planning.

We've booked through Dreams Unlimited and gotten a AAA discount for our room only ressies. It's better than booking a package through AAA - and my agent at DU is great to work with. I never felt that my ressie was out of my hands. Plus, the agents at DU will apply any discounts to your ressie without you even having to know they've been announced. You might want to go that route, as well.

When I called yesterday to make ADR (we are going July 10-16) the CM did ask for my res. # and where I was staying. I'm not sure if that was only because I was booking for CRT in addition to some others. I did have to change the times I had in mind by 30-45 minutes for a few places though. It was no big deal for us, but I would have thought that 6 mos. in advance I could get whatever I wanted. We are a party of 5. Don't wait too long to book. I'll be calling today to make a few more. It's hard to do a whole schedule 6 mos in advance, but I guess you have to.
Best of Luck!

Scanne,
I am from NJ also and I am also going to the Poly in July. Can I ask what rates you got thru DU with AAA discount? I got GV 6 nights with 6 day park hoppers and dining for $3972 (Me DH, DD4, DD9, DD12) as a pkg. directly thru AAA. I'm curious if you did better. I priced it to be a savings of $340 for disney rates.

Also, can I make ADRs if I haven't actually booked the trip?

You should have no problem with ADRs before booking. They'll save the ADRs under your home phone number rather than your resort confirmation number.

We are goining in July too. I used the codes in July of 2004 when we stayed at the AKL. This year we are staying at Pop Century. AKL was wonderful but trying to save a little money this time and I hope the codes will help.
