June 18, 2010 - WONDERful Waverun - Bahamas 4-Night

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I've been on. I just spent the last 30 min. re-reading from page 1 just to get reaquainted!! For a little while there
I felt like I was on a completely different board! So awesome that you all are getting to know each other!

Laura - I'll send you an email to get our kids together on FB but I'm not sure that your son will be able to "find" my daughter because I have the privacy options maxed out!! I was reluctant to do it in the first place. --- love the name Aidan for a girl. My 10 year old son is Aidan (Jess!) My daughter is Nicole.

and Jess - you mentioned your son having Trich - wow, we've been dealing with it with my 12 year old daughter since last August. I scour the trich.org boards daily. Most would never know that she has it because she's outgoing and really involved in many activities. But she wears a pony tail everyday to cover it up. (it's her scalp - I realize for others it's other locations) On another note, my son Aidan's best friend has Asperger's. We've learned so much about it over the last year. A challenge for you I know...

And, Laura, this year is the big 4-0 for me as well! I was beginning a "beginners running" program - run 1 min, walk 1 min...that kind of thing...but then I pulled my thigh muscle about a month ago and it hasn't quite healed. I think I'm doing something to compensate that is now hurting my back....ugh! is this really what getting older is about??? For now, it's pilates, yoga, and taking the dog on long walks. But I'm all for Yoga with Goofy in the a.m. if there is such a thing!

Happy Birthday (soon?) Jess.....

Ok, back to the CRUISE! I had taken a break from planning, because as you all know, it can be quite addicting!!! However, I just made our final payment!!! (actually, my mother did with my help :))

We've decided to fly-in on the 17th, do a one-way rental car in Orlando, stay the night in a hotel then drive to the port. Came out about $200 cheaper than using the cruise transfers. Plus, we're not at the mercy of a bus transfer. I suspect we'll be able to get to the cruise terminal earlier as well.

As for the FE - I think the kids in our party would really enjoy that. Are there rules as to who gets the gifts - just kids, or family as a whole? We are split up into 3 cabins - Me, my husband and son in one, my mother, daughter and niece in another, and my brother, SIL, and nephew in the last one. I'm not exactly sure how into this my brother would be - he's not a cruise lover like I am (crazy I know!) In fact, I'm not sure how much his kids know about the cruise. They live 3 states away - so I'm not there to bombard them with Mickey stuff! Anyways, I digress - Just wanting to know the particulars of the FE and how my party of 9 would participate.......

Have a Happy Easter everyone!!!

Kari

So funny we all have Aidan's- and the ages we had them their names weren't even popular- I had people constantly say wow, what an unusual name...and now- ha!

Thanks for the b-day wishes! Aidan will be 9 and I will be 30 next week:)

As for trich- I feel SO helpless at times- I know you can relate :( It's so hard to control and understand. For Aidan it's his eyebrows and eyelashes so i's noticable. I watched this show on OCD awhile back and it covered trich in there and had a few adults on there talking about it. Really interesting, but also kinda scary because it impacted them so much. We have an apt here in a few weeks to talk about it again with his dr- are you guys doing any medication treatment? His dr and I talked about it last year to see if it would go away, but it obv isn't. So I'm not sure what to do now- esp with all his other issues:(

As for the cruise FE- I'm not sure...I'm a newbie to this as well:)

And for running or working out while on vaca- it will be weird for me not to (I'm a gym addict- 5 times a week!) but I don't want to pack workout clothes or running shoes! I live in my croc sandals and flip flops and sundresses and the thought of taking up room to pack workout wear...I don't know about that. I overpack as it is!

Hey guys,
Okay - here's some food for thought:

1) FE Cutoff - Do we want to do April 18 or May 1? That's about 8 weeks or 6 weeks of lead time.

2) FE list - right now it's REALLY short. I've put the few of us on the list into the spreadsheet that I uploaded to this link - just click here to download and print for later use: http://www.mediafire.com/file/gw4tyzndmid/FEList040110.xlsx
- Laura - you mentioned that your family is in several rooms - I only have 1 room of info. Do any of the other family members want to take part?
- kar529 - Kari, do you want to be part of the Fish Exchange?

3) On my last cruise we had wristbands made that identified us as part of the group. I'm looking into the info on them - it really made it easier to identify each other when we saw those wristbands! I'll let you know if I can get them for us if you're interested. We could have them inscribed with something like "DIS Wonder - June 18, 2010"

4) If you guys want, I can add pictures to the spreadsheet which again will help us to identify each other more easily. If you'd like to do that shoot me a PM and I'll send you my email address - I'll post them in the spreadsheet as soon as I get them!

5) Final thing - Cruise meet - where and when? If the group stays this small, maybe we should just pull it together between lunch and the muster drill on the first day. My evening will be taken up by getting the girls acclimated at the Oceaneer Club during the Open House! Please discuss.

Love ya!
J

Hi all, hope everyone is doing better! My thoughts on Jeremy's notes above:

1) May 1st is a good cutoff date.
2) Thanks...we used a spreadsheet last year, found it really helpful. I had planned to do the same thing this year.
3) The wristbands sound like a fun idea as well. Last year someone made up a logo, and DS and I did "Magic of Tortola" t-shirts. Any type of "identifier" would be great.
4) Another good idea!
5) I tend to agree that the best time for the meet and greet is after lunch and before muster. If I may propose, last year we met in the Promenade Lounge at 3PM. We had about 15 staterooms participating then, and only 1 was unable to attend due to late travels. Just a thought....

Hope everyone is doing well!

Kari, once you find me on FB it should be easier for the kids to friend each other. You can then find Keegan through me. (Laura Fordyce if you want to search me out).

It's very funny that three of us have Aidans. My daughter hates her "boy name" and wants to be called "Elizabeth". :rotfl2: She's a bit of a diva these days. Trying to "nip" that! princess:

Jess, at least bring your shoes! We can meet for a walk/run on deck. I dream of running with the ocean all around me and a big coffee afterwards! I also want to do the 5K if I can get my calf/tendon issue solved...It must be that "30/10" issue again. (Not 40! ;)) I have a July triathlon, so hopefully I will be motivated to workout a bit! Spin class or two and a run ought to do it!

Three should work for us for a meet...I don't know what all goes on, but we should be able to have our stuff in the room and be "free" of the baggage!

Love that we are all chatting more! It's getting much more exciting! I actually love the lead-up to a trip-all the planning and anticipation! The sad thing is that it will all go so fast once we are onboard.

Anyone doing Disney after the cruise?

Ok ok, I'll bring my shoes. lol. You said the magic word (coffee! lol)

Our vacation is 2 weeks- I think my kids will be so drained once we are done! We are doing Disney for 2 days before the cruise and then Disney and HP world for 7 days after. Nuts! We are only planning basically half days though- I want to stay relaxed as possible after the cruise:)

Oh and about your Aidan wanting to be a princess. lol. It's ingrained I swear! Piper grew up with an older brother and I'm not too much of a girly girl, yet she wants her hair done, nails done and is constantly in dresses, takes ballet, etc. All her choice and I figure it will either stick or she will grow out of it- either way she will figure it out. We just saw How to Train Your Dragon though and now she claims she wants to be a viking princess when she grows up and I need to enroll her in combat classes. lol. So I guess she can be a tomboy at times!

Yes! An early morning coffee buddy! Anyone else want to join in?

Our vacation is roughly two weeks as well. We will arrive in Georgia on or around the 15th to meet up with our family who will also be on the cruise. They are about 4 hours from the port. We will drive in and stay and The Country Inn and Suites the day before. After the cruise, we have a house rented for a week with park hoppers for 4 or 5 days (can't remember which) and will relax poolside on the other days! We won't get back to Erie, PA until July 3rd or so! We too will be exhausted! I can't wait!

I actually was wondering when Cove Cafe opened- I am a coffee addict but need to make sure my kiddos can be in the clubs (going on the assumption Aidan will be ok there) - cause it's an adult only area.

Just booked my excursions! We got the early morning Dolphin Encounter in Nassau - which is done by 1:30, so we will still have the day to do any shopping, etc or head back to the boat early. For CC day the kids wanted to do a special excursion one on one with me- so Aidan and I are parasailing at 9am to 10, then Piper and me are doing the stingrays at 11 to 12. I figure that gives us lunch time and the rest of the afternoon to be lazy on the beach:)

No Palo (with me being the only adult I didn't really want to go alone, lol) or spa. I will do the spa next cruise! I'm spending enough on excursions!

It's 9:30 pm here- and I need to go get Easter things ready for the AM:) Have a great weekend everyone!

Booked Palo today for the Nassau night. Skipped excursions for now! Will wait until I know what the weather will be!

Getting to know you Questions:

Where are you all from? What do you do for a living? What do you LOVE to do in your spare time?

I'll get the ball rolling!

I am from a small town called North East, Pennsylvania. We are "north east" of Erie, PA. Clever, huh? ;) We are known for our wine growing and farming community. We have a Cherry Festival in the summer and a Wine Fest in the fall...a excuse to drink in public! Our town is small...too small! Everyone knows everyone! I dream of a larger city someday! We are a great place to visit in the summer and fall. It is very slowpaced here, we are talking a beach on Lake Erie and a few attractions. Our wineries are great to visit.

I teach second grade. I started out in Special Education for 6 years. Did a stint in 3rd grade, 1st grade and have landed in second for the long haul. It is a blessing on some days and a curse on others! :rotfl2: Let's be honest...while I love teaching, there are days when I would cheerfully send them all home! Imagine 20 7-8 year olds all day every day! They are equally hilarious and frustrating! I think someone says, "Mrs. Fordyce..." 1000 times a day! If it isn't that it's, "Mom...Mom...MOM!" :lmao:

Hobbies...hmmm...so many! I LOVE to read trashy novels! :confused3 It's the truth! I love the "dress rippers" the best! :rolleyes1 Totally mindless entertainment! I've been know to do some smart reading, but I do so much of that at school (Teaching Reading to Struggling Learners, Guided Reading for Dummies...;)) that when I am on my own...it's trash all the way! :lmao:
I also LOVE to sing. I have done lots of weddings and plan on spending some time at karaoke! Anybody want to join me? I have a love/hate relationship with running. I hate to run and love to stop but I do it anyways! I'm slow and often injured after three knee surgeries...hence the switch to cross training. Last year, I taught myself how to swim. 10 yard dog paddle to a 1000 yard freestyle and started biking. All that from watching a youth triathlon that looked so FUN!!! I love my bike the best of all and hope to do a century ride in the near future! We are also avid boaters and fisherman in our family. My Dh would be the happiest if he could throw a line over the side of the ship! :goodvibes:)I love to hang out and just chat with interesting people (that would be you all!) and will have a big birthday in a few weeks. (We (ok, I) call it 30-10 rather than what it is!)

And now that you know all about me...how about you?

Most of you know a fair bit about me but in a nutshell-

I grew up here in Seattle- moved out very young and supported myself from the time I was 16 on (in high school, worked, did ballet & theater but never slept!). Married very young and had Aidan while I was in college. Because of his problems I never had the chance to go back. Did the stay at home mom thing for years until my daughter was born and when my ex ran out (literally- as in haven’t heard from him since). Got a job as a paralegal because the op came up (went to college for tech theater so not exactly my passion). Worked there for 3 yrs until just recently up and quitting and becoming a nanny for a friend. Not sure what the future holds career wise but my kids needed me more!

My male cousin lives with us so we have a great role model for the kids (he’s been her for 3 yrs now). I’m a cancer survivor- multiple surgeries and radiation (the hardest part being keeping the kids away from me for a few days after those treatments), I have a heart problem that emerged when P was born (my body does NOT feel like someone about to turn 30!). You guys know a lot about my kiddos- I talk about them most!

I like to knit, read, run, frequent our great Seattle piano bars and jazz clubs, and write. I am a huge tv nut but never have the time to watch it except for my few favs (inc LOST). I used to to teach yoga and ballet 10 yrs ago and I still keep up on that. I also have taken latin ballroom classes and when I get better would love to compete. Random facts- I’m terrified of ALL birds, have 6 tattoos that I can keep covered if need be (people are always surprised when they see me in a bathing suit and are like- when did that happen? Lol- it’s one of those secret addictions), and I live off diet coke and coffee (in addition to a balanced diet;)

The kids and I do a lot of fun things- living in Seattle is so great for activities! While it’s constantly grey skies, drizzle and towering trees everywhere- we have learned to love our weather. The kids play in the rain and 50 degree temps with no qualms year round. We are a couple hours away from the Olympic/Hoh Rainforest, the pacific ocean, farms, hiking, waterfalls, etc. Yet can also go downtown and see the most diverse friendly culture- the kids think nothing of hot pink hair, tattoos galore, etc - but those same people are conversing with 70 year old grandmas picking flowers at Pike Place Market. I take pride in our city being such melting pot. It’s really great being so centrally located to anything you could want. We are 15 min from downtown Seattle so our neighborhood is one of those where we know everyone on the street, and our kids all play with one another. It’s really great.

Ok- rambling- did you read that part about me enjoying to write? Lol.

Feel free to face book friend request me- I have lots more to share on my info page:) just search my email mom2aidannpiper@hotmail.com

Jess...we practice the FISH! philosophy from the Pike's Place Fish Market. What cool place to live near!

I also reread my post, and wanted to clarify "Guided Reading for Dummies" refers to ME as the dummy and not any of my STUDENTS! That could be taken wrongly! LOL

Hi

I am a suburb girl living in the country. I wish I could say that I love country living, but I don't. When I got married my husband already had the house. It is almost paid for so staying seemed like the easy decision. We are near the Michigan capital and U of M, but it makes for a 30 minutes drive just to find some fun.

I will live in Florida someday. I love it there. I'm hoping that my writing career will pay for a condo. My first book is coming out in May (hopefully) and the second will be out in Aug/Sept. I'm a teacher by day. I have 145 tenth grade students. I've been lucky this semester to have a student teacher. Alas, she is leaving soon...

I have not had a lot of spare time this year. My mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer so I spent a lot of time taking care of her. She has received very good news that the cancer, they believe, is gone. I spend a lot of time with my husband and kids. I drive an hour to work so on the weekends I like to stay home and relax. Planning Disney trips seems to be my hobby right now. We are going to Disneyland this summer in July.

That's me..Tracie :goodvibes

Hi, all...

Just stopping by to put in a few notes about us. As you've probably noticed, we're a father-and-son duo. We have sailed on DCL every Father's Day since 2005. A son's treat to his dad...except that Dad pays. :rotfl2:

I am the operations manager for a title insurance agency in downtown Cincinnati. I've been in that line of business for about 25 years. Native Cincinnatian, and likely to remain here for life. Love to travel.

Matthew and I are also season ticketholders to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football season. We were very proud of our Bearcats this past year, even if they did lose to Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

I also am a MMORPG enthusiast, particularly with "World of Warcraft". I can often been found wandering the forests of Azeroth killing boars with fireballs. :wizard:

I love to cook as well. I am going to attempt the "Palo Souffle'" with Matthew prior to the cruise. :thumbsup2

That's all for now...look forward to hearing from everyone else!

Tracie...What kind of books do you write? What awesome news about your mom! I actually grew up my whole life in the country and still am not that fond of it. I like small doses! For me the memory of mowing vast acres of lawn and baling itchy hay all summer outweighs its good points! I like outdoor life and activities, just not the farming aspect!

My daughter (7) LOVES to watch Food Network. Cake Boss is her all-time favorite! I think she will be a chef someday and that is just fine with me! I will gladly turn over the spatula! Good luck with the souffle...take a picture! ;)

My first book, the second one I wrote, is called Kid Tips for Walt Disney World: Touring Advice by Kids for Kids. The second one is an educational WDW field guide/adventure guide. I haven't found a title yet that I love. Still working on it.

Yes, we have to mow a lot. Actually, my husband has to do all the mowing. We like to go camping once a year and I always feel like why camp...we live in the country ;).

Anyone thinking about packing yet for vacation? I finish school on Thursday, June 10 and am leaving June 13. I can't wait!!!

Because our climate here rarely warrants summer clothes, we keep all our hot summer stuff in our suitcases, as well as our Disney stuff like laynards, misters, special color bks, travel games, etc. So for us it's really easy- I make a list (already done) add a few things, take a few things out and we're done! I do have more than I usually pack set aside though- some captain Mickey stuffed dolls for the kids, a new Tiana princess dress for Piper for WDW, waterproof cameras, etc. I'm trying not to think about it and make myself pack lighter than usual. I am so bad about over packing! I love clothes! I am shipping our lugagge a week early (to arrive at CBR) - I lost 2 suitcases last trip and it took 3 days to track them down. Not a big deal when at a hotel and right by a Target, but not so great if I had been on a boat!

We leave the 15th- we have a countdown chain I found on the Disney for Families board and the kids have so much fun cutting a loop off each day. I'm pulling Aidan out of school the last 3 days (no snow this year here so no makeup days either which is great). I hate for him to miss school but lots of kids do that last week, and it was either that or we waited till later in the summer to cruise and even a couple wks made a dif price wise!

Hi all! :yay::yay::yay:

I just wanted to make sure everyone saw this. I've posted an updated FE spreadsheet with some pics in it! http://www.mediafire.com/file/gygzym3yqf5/FEList040610.xlsx

Wow - we are some good looking people! We should totally become models or something. :thumbsup2

Laura - Never really got the answer about the other two staterooms for your family. Do they want to participate?

Kari - I just need the info on everyone in your group and their staterooms. Take a look at the first post in this chat room - I've been updating with everyone's info as they give it. If you want to be in the FE, just send all that info to me by PM and I'll put you in the spreadsheet as well!

Now enough about you guys...let's talk about me!

I'm a Virgo/Leo cusp who enjoys long walks on the beach...okay, not really for me...I just like watching other people take long walks on the beach. Anything else requires far too much beachy effort. :sad2:

I spent the last 7 1/2 years in Advertising, but recently transitioned to my new career as a travel agent. Loving it. My wife is an incredibly talented writer still trying to sell her first novel or book of short stories, but in the meantime she continues to make a darn good living as the Creative Director/Copywriter for her own Advertising agency as well. She's pretty brilliant, really.

My daughters have expressed interest in becoming veterinarians, marine biologists, dancers, singers, actors, rock stars, chefs (or as they call them 'cookers') and Elmo! (That last was from my near-2-year-old...she just exclaims that from time to time so I take it as a career goal...dad can dream, right?)

My wife and I were both actors :cool2: and we met performing :dance3:...I've also been a Nordstrom employee, a turn-of-the-millenium dot-commer, and an accountant. So, my multiple personality disorder is pretty self-evident. NO IT ISN'T. Yes it is. NO IT ISN'T...we'll resolve this shortly, I'm sure. no we won't.

Anyway, ask me anything - I'm an open book. (That's another of the guises I like to wear...although the binding can get kinda itchy.)

I'm looking into the wristbands - Thanks, Jess!:surfweb:

I'll chat with you all later - buh-bye.

I totally agree with you...we are a nice looking bunch! :thumbsup2

I will say no on our other cabins participating (They think I'm a little nutty...:confused3)! If I can talk them into it, I'll let you know by the cutoff date.

More later...working on the bills (ugh :scared1:) just took a small detour!

My friends and family think I'm nuts too. Don't worry:) I am total control freak though- in fact I am currently sitting on hold on the phone with the manager of the dueling piano bar arranging my own birthday party for Fri. lol. My friends were slacking, so I told them, don't worry- I'll arrange everything and tell you when and where to be.

Take a bit of the fun out of it! lol.

Just a suggestion for you, Jess...A birthday week! Everyone knows that's how it is with me! "No dishes-It's my birthday week! What are we doing special today? It's my birthday week!" My Dh LOVES my birthday week! :rotfl2: For such an auspicious occasion as my 30/10 birthday It might be a "birthday two-weeks"!
