I am always amazed by the prevalence of this these days! ALmost every family I know has had it touch them in some way. I have a delightful autistic boy with a hearing impairment in my class. I have learned a ton this year, thanks to him!
Jess, please tell me about ridemax? That sounds like something I need!
Laura
I am so thankful that autism and other spectrum disorders are being talked about and recognized. years ago Aidan would have been marked as "smart but weird" among other things, and may not have been able to thrive in school or life. He def has his challenges but the acceptance factor is so high in our school, and everyone's support is so great.
Ridemax...many people use touring plans (a board sponsor) and you can also follow the Unofficial guide tour plans in the book. I did the book once for DL and it worked semi ok. We've been usng ridemax for years now and I will never turn back. This is how it works: you buy the software which downloads to the computer (an icon on your desktop). When you open the software you select a date, and which park you want. I recommend doing this a few weeks before the trip (so hours, attraction times, etc are up to date. I bought mine a couple days ago because the expiration date was June 20, and I'll have my plans printed before we leave).
Once you select your date and park, your menu opens and you can add atractions, show times (and you can specify if you want it to figure out showtimes or you want certain ones), touring pace, if you have a fastpass "runner", etc. You can also schedule in your dining times, and breaks.
For DL I would make 2 "mini" plans. One for the AM and one for the PM (I would tell it that I arrived at rope drope and stayed till noon, then back at 4 till 10). I also would make more than one plan for the AM- adjusting my arrival time by 20 min increments. That way if I was late it was still ok.
I always had a lot of down time in the plan- and sometimes it didn't seem to make sense- it would have you do a ride in fantastland, then one in adventureland, etc. But the wait times were ALWAYS accurate (if not better than posted) so it made the little bit of extra walking worth it for us.
I'm not a huge "commando" touring type- we would hit hard early in the am, but often my afternoon plans were only for a small handful of attractions, but I still found it handy. I would print them small sized and then glue them to index cards. I would put all the index cards on a metal ring and as soon as I would be in the park I would toss the ones I didn't need (alternate times) and toss them as I went along. It really was great. As experienced of a DL'er I am, I still use it- no thinking involved and the plan eliminates wait times plus arguements from everyone about what to do
