Happy new year to all...

I hope to be hearing about alaska sometime in january. My sister is on top of it.

Have a great 2008!

Hello, MedHeads!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! I worked 14 hours on Christmas day, which meant both breakfast and dinner. That wasn't the most fun, but it was double time! For new year's eve/my birthday we went to Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner and then watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Contemporary. We were afraid to actually go into the park, too crowded!

My parents are still here, but my younger sister and 2 friends just went home. We stayed at Beach Club Villas last week and this week we're at the Polynesian. I only have 2 more days of working then a couple days off and then I come home!

Hope everyone's doing well.

Hi everyone. I hope everybody had a festive New Years. Speaking of which, I thought you all might be interested in this . . . My friend's daughter and her boyfriend are travelling the World and were in Barcelona for New Years Eve. Read what happened . . .

Jodie...
Thanks for the reminder. I have been reading their blog, but took a break. I wish I had been that adventurous in my 20's. It sounds and looks like their having a good time and this will be something they'll remember forever. I'm definately envious.

Hope you have a good year!

Hello Stephanie,
I've not been reading this for a while. First of all we hope all is well and healthy with you and your family. Secondly, may 2008 be a Disney year for you all!!!

Now the hard part, we have signed up for the members cruise on Sept. 21, 2008 and I would like to see if there is a "thread" going for that cruise. If now I would like to start one and do not have a clue. I sent an email to the Disboards folks several days ago but no answer.

Can you help?

We are still in for Alaska in 2009. I think the cruise that Bren (Skallywag) posted is a bit much and would be quite expensive. I would like to see a 7 day cruise somehow ending with a train trip to Denali and return by air.
That is my personnal preference.

My direct email is "jcolson7@tampabay.rr.com".

We spent three days at Animal Kingdom Lodge just before Christmas. It was really cold.

Stay well,

Jack

Hello Bren,
Thanks for the information. This adventure seems a bit much for us. I would like a shorter Alaska cruise.

Doing Alaska and Hawaii can require two sets of clothes! I went to Alaska in October 1963 to set up a satellite tracking station only to learn they wanted me to go the Big Island and set up another. I had my winter coat and stuff. I sure looked funny getting off the plane with it on because had no room in my suitcase. Then they gave real flower lei's to all passengers arriving. I was a mess!

We hope both of you are well and our best withes for 2008.

You could do a northbound cruise from Vancouver. I know Royal Caribbean and Princess both have one, and I think the prices are similar. I like RC a bit better since you disembark in Seward. There are some pretty neat day cruises from Seward to see wildlife, glaciers and such. Check it out at . . .

www.kenaifjords.com

After Seward, you can take the bus into Anchorage. The next day, take the dome train to Denali. From Denali, you can continue on to Fairbanks and fly home from there (however, when I was doing my reserach, I found it to be MUCH cheaper going back to Anchorage and flying home from there). Have fun planning. I have a more detailed itinerary if you want it.

Jodie

Hi Everyone,

Jack lovely to hear from you again how are you all.

This fire and ice cruise is something I have dreamed of since I first noticed it in the brochure. See what you mean about the two sets of clothes though could be difficult but am sure I could find a way round it if I win the lottery.

Cold but sunny here today after the big blow we had yesterday. We escaped some of it I think but they did close our new bridge onto the island again as they say it is dangerous in high winds. Makes you wonder why they built it in the first place as it has not been opened two years yet and closes often unlike the old bridge. Port of Dover closed for about 8 hours yesterday because of very high wind and now the boat stranded off Blackpool after being hit by a very large wave on its way from Ireland so they say. The story being that a juggernaut went over on the boat becuse of the weather so expect someone will be to blame for not chaining it down correctly.

Have been watching a programme from Canada - the Ice Road - did not know that such a thing existed and must say it would be very scary I think driving across a fozen lake with a very heavily laden lorry. Not for the faint hearted I would think.

Well, better go and get the washing off the line before it gets blown away and I have to chase it.

Best wishes to everyone who is still reading this board.
Bren

I am but not for the following reasons - hope it makes you smile.
Being British

Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a
Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a
Turkish Kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch
American shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all?
Suspicion of anything Foreign.

Oh and...... Only in Britain .... Can a pizza get to your house Faster
than an ambulance.

Only in Britain .... Do supermarkets make sick People walk all the way
to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions While healthy
people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in Britain ... Do People order double cheeseburgers, large fries
and a DIET coke.

Only in Britain .... Do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens
to the Counters.

Only in Britain ... Do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on The
drive and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage.

Only in Britain .... Do we use answering machines to screen calls and
then have call Waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't
want to talk to in The first place.

Only in Britain .... Are there disabled parking places in Front of a
skating rink.

NOT TO MENTION... 3 Brits die each year testing of A 9v battery works
on their tongue.

142 Brits were injured in 2007 by not Removing all pins from new
shirts.

58 Brits are injured each year by using Sharp knives instead of
screwdrivers.

31 Brits have died since 2007 by Watering their Christmas tree while
the fairy lights were plugged in.

19 Brits have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas
decorations were chocolate.

British Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after Cracker
pulling accidents.

101 people in 2007 have had broken parts of Plastic toys pulled
out of the soles of their feet.

18 Brits had serious Burns in 2007 trying on a new jumper with a lit
cigarette in their mouth.

A Massive 543 Brits were admitted to A&E in the last two years after
opening Bottles of beer with their teeth.

5 Brits were injured last year in Accidents involving out of Control
Scalextric cars.

And finally......... In 2007 eight Brits cracked their skull whilst
throwing up into the toilet.

I am proud to be British IF YOU'RE PROUD TO BE BRITISH THEN YOU'LL
FORWARD THIS!

Bren...too funny. I am forwarding to my british friend!

Jack, you can just start a new thread. Just select new thread at the top and go!

Nice to hear from you all. We are still waiting for the alaska information, but as I type this I am now on the fence about this trip. I have to decide to either do a cruise for my 40th in November or Alaska in the summer. The biggest problem for me is that my sister is trying to get pregnant. If it happens soon, then the birthday one is out as she can't go, but if it takes a while, (babies must be over 3 months) then Alaska is out. I'm waiting for the prices and we'll probably hold something just in case, but I wanted to give you all a heads up.

I definately would like to cruise with you all again!

I'll keep you in mind and pass along the info as soon as I get it!

Hi Steph. Are you getting excited for the Panama cruise? Its getting so close! Time sure does fly.

We have pushed our Alaska trip back to 2010 due to cost. Once we get off the ship, we'd like to travel to Denali. By the time we're done, it will end up costing more than the Med cruise!! If you decide not to do the trip in 09, you can always wait a year like us.

We did book the Disney Eastern cruise over Thanksgiving 09, so all our vacation planning is DONE for now!!

Did you read the Eurosatemydollars entry from a few days ago? the one where they were stuck on the tram without a ticket? I laughed so hard, I about fell out of my chair!! :rotfl:

Its supposed to be 70 degrees here today, so we get a taste of your wonderful California weather. Caio!

Jodie

I will check out the blog. I am almost done with the panama stuff. I just need to get 2 day tix to wdw and decide if I want to get up to join the dissers hummezining to the port (7:30am) or take the disney bus (10am)...I'm leaning towards the 10am..I need my coffee in the am!

I thought about thanksgiving on disney. I don't know, it's just so expensive. I think I need to take a disney break and save up for the new ships!

Yes, they are expensive, but Thanksgiving week 09 isn't horrible compared with other holiday times. We used our shipboard discount to get the 10%, and our category 9 cost us $4,500 for 4 people. I noticed that the prices jump dramatically going above a cat 9 though.

Also, www.mapleleaftickets.com offers a bit of a discount on Disney tickets.

Let us know if you set up a blog for your Panama trip so we can live vicariously.

Hi Everyone,
It has been awhile. I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Brenda your post about the Brits was too funny. I am starting to get nervous about our trip to Disney in July 2008. I have made 1 dinner reservation at the Yatchsman Steakhouse for DMIL 80th birthday celebration. Can anyone else recommend any other places to dine. We would like to do one or two character meals, Chef Mickey, Lilo and Stitch, Princesses? Also thinking of trying to book the pontoon boat for the Illuminations show. Would this be worthwhile. We will be there from July 19th-July 27th. Then we are going on the 4 night Wonder cruise. We also want go to a water park one day and maybe Universal Studios one day. Is this doable? Universal has special prices for tickets right now - 85.99 for unlimited admission. Or should we just make this trip about Disney. Too many decisions like trying to schedule the Med excursions. Any help from you seasoned Disney fans would be great. Should I invest in any tour plans like from tour guide Mike? Thanks.

I will be blogging on the thread I have attached to my signature. Just look there to keep up with us...although this trip has alot more sea days than the med, so plan on seeing alot of lounging photos.
