June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

We would want balcony cabin of course and do not mind where we leave from as long as there is a major airport close to fly into. Would love to do the cruise that visits Victoria as understand it is more British than Britain.

Too funny...ok so the agent is working on 2009 sailing dates for summertime. June - August.

Thanks for all the response back, it'll probably be a while until the dates are released. If you want to send me your email addresses, I'll make a group to email info too or anyone have any other suggestion..we could keep going on this thread too.

Pat..taylor replied very quickly to jennas email, but she was so excited to get it. She just doesn't have the skill to formulate a real sentence yet! She was running around telling her friends about jenna and letting them know she emailed her...cause it was too cool. haha

Glad to hear things are better lauren. With that winning personality, I knew it wouldn't take long!

Here is my long winded letter to Delta about our travel problems to and from Europe.

Disappointed Delta Customer,

In March 2006, my family booked a once-in-a-lifetime Mediterranean Cruise. At midnight on the first possible minute in July 2006 that I could make Skymile reservations for our June 2007 trip, I called Delta to obtain for 4 tickets in July 2006. We were not able to obtain tickets from our desired departure airport (CVG) although there were direct flights from Cincinnati to Paris (CDG). Although we live in a Cincinnati suburb, we had to drive to Columbus and connect through JFK and use Delta partner Air France to reach Paris (CDG). This would come back to haunt us.

On June 12, 2007, we drove to Columbus, checked-in and arrived at the gate to find our Delta flight 5524 cancelled on this beautiful sunny day due to bad weather in the NY area. The best Delta rep could do was to fly our family of 5 on two different flights the next day from Columbus to Atlanta and then Atlanta to Paris.

We lost a day of vacation, the additional expense of a hotel room in Columbus ($ 129), and the loss of a pre-paid Paris hotel stay ($ 600).

On our return from vacation on Wednesday, June 27th, we landed at 6:15 pm on AirFrance Flight # 10 from Paris to JFK. We stayed on the runway due to no gates being available. Then, a brief thunderstorm occurred at 7:30 pm. Then, another thunderstorm at 10:30 pm. So, we were parked on the runway for 5 hours after a 7+ hour flight. Our Delta connection, DL6255 scheduled for 8:30 pm was cancelled.

Once we de-planned at 11:30 and claimed our luggage and went thru customs. The Delta Rep booked us standby on DL5063 on Thursday June 28th. We re-checked our luggage at 5:30 am after spending the night trapped in the airport. Of course, there were 20+ standby passengers for only 5-6 available seats. Since we had Skymile tickets, we were downgraded on the standby list to last. The Delta rep said that we would not get confirmed seats until Saturday, June 30th or Sunday July 1st even if we went to
a different local airport or used another airline. Waiting for standby flights for 3-4 days is unacceptable. So after being awake for 36 hours, I was able to rent a car from National if I took it for one week.

My wife and I lost another day of vacation and the additional expense of the rental car ($1000).

Once we returned home to Cincinnati on Thursday night at 2 am, I then had to call Delta on Friday morning to find our (8) pieces of luggage. The website and phone required a file number to track the luggage. When I got a Delta rep concerning our Baggage, she was able to tell me that our bags had arrived in Columbus on Friday, June 29th but they would not be delivered because we did not have a file number. “You can not start a file number over the phone, it must be done in person once you got off the flight.” When I explained that we did not take a flight because we would still be sitting in JFK, there was nothing that she could do. So, I am pointing out a flaw in Delta’s lost/delayed baggage system.

I had to drive to Columbus (3 hr roundtrip) and retrieve our luggage.

I am requesting a complete retribution of our Skymiles to our accounts without penalty. Secondly, I am requesting a refund for the last leg of our trip from JFK to CMH to help defray the cost of the rental car.

Yes, there was bad weather on June 27th but that was after gate congestion which is a human error. Delta does not control the weather but bad weather occurs everyday and the complete lack of a plan to get stranded customers off the plane and back home was unsettling. Overall, the inability to let Delta customers use their Skymiles for the most convenient flights after years of being loyal Delta patrons only increases the
risk of travel problems and ruining a vacation.

I ask for the Delta’s time to review this letter and give it proper consideration. I will be happy to provide more detailed information and receipts if required.

Sounds like a decent request. Good luck with Delta. Please let us know how it goes!

Steph

Dear Mr. Mcdonnell,

Thank you for your e-mail describing the inconvenience you experienced
due to flight irregularities when traveling with our Delta Connection
partner, Comair, Chautauqua Airlines and our SkyTeam partner, Air
France. We apologize for the difficulties you encountered.

Your time is valuable, and operating on schedule is equally important to
us. However, in the process of operating scheduled service over many
different routes each day, occasional mechanical malfunctions, adverse
weather, and other interruptions to routine performance plans are
unavoidable. These are situations faced by all airlines and no air
carrier can guarantee that all flights will depart or arrive on
schedule. Nevertheless, we are sorry you were inconvenienced.

We realize the importance of receiving your luggage promptly and in the
same condition as when it was checked into our care. Constant emphasis
is placed on this aspect of our service, and we are making every effort
to bring about improvements. Our people should be responsive when
something like this happens, and I regret that we did not do a very good
job in this case.

As a goodwill gesture, we will mail our $200.00 Transportation Credits
for ( Ms. Alison, Ms. Kathleena, Ms. Kelly, Mr. John, Mrs. Alison )
each passenger which may be used toward future Delta travel and some
travel-related services. Vouchers are valid for one year from the date
of issue and may not be combined. They may be redeemed at any Delta
ticketing facility or authorized travel agency; however, they are not
currently redeemable online. Please refer to the terms and conditions
for additional information. Also we will send our In-Flight Courtesy
Coupons which may be redeemed for a complimentary cocktail or headset
onboard your next flight with us. Please allow 30 to 60 business days
for the vouchers to reach you.

Again, thank you for writing. We appreciate your selection of our Delta
Connection partners and our SkyTeam partner and will always welcome the
opportunity to be of service.

I was pleasantly surprised to get something back. I really thought it was a lost cause. I guess we can use our vouchers to fly to WDW next June.

John

Sounds somewhat decent I guess, John. Certainly think they should have done more for you for everything you went through but like you said, at least you got a respose and some free tickets. :thumbsup2

Good for you John!!!!! :thumbsup2

What a horrible ordeal you & family went thru.

Glad they gave you free vouchers. Are you going to use them for Fla.?

Yes, we have a DVC vacation booked for mid-June next year at Old Key West so we can fly direct.

John

John, You certainly had more than your share of travel woes. Well written letter & to top if off I can't believe they responded & gave you something. It doesn't quite compare to the terrible ordeal you all went thorugh, but they gave you something.

I'm looking forward to a cruise to Alaska!
My e-mail is sue@sonnenberg-family.com.

Me too, I really want to go to Alaska

Steph, I am trying to get more people to come. For now, it's just one room for Jenna & I.

Y'all....I need some prayers said, please. I just got a call from my aunt's work. Apparently I was her emergency contact, who knew? Anyway, they wanted to know if I knew where she had been the past 2 days because they hadn't been able to get ahold of her. I talked to her last night around 11 but I didn't know what to tell them. They told me if I heard from her to just let them know because she didn't show up or call in on Wednesday or today.

So, as soon as I got off the phone with them I called my aunt who didn't pick up her home phone or cell, which is unusual for her. So then I called her daughter (my cousin) who said that her mom had told her she was at work.

My cousin had spent the night at her dad's house the last couple nights and when she came home this morning my aunt was gone. So, she hasn't seen my aunt in 3 days. No one can get ahold of her, she's not answering calls and no one has any idea where she is. Probably nothing to be concerned about, but I am. I just don't understand why she would not be going to work or calling in. When I talked to her last night she seemed a little strange and I kept asking her what was wrong and she just kept saing she was just tired. Something has to be up but I don't know what it is. She's been battling depression so I worry about her. I'm just sick over this. She needs to be okay.

Lauren,
Hopefully you'll hear something soon. But in the meantime, I'll keep your aunt in my prayers!

Lauren,

I will put your aunt in my prayers! You have every reason to be concerned, trust me, bad things can happen. Where is her car? Call all the hotels in the area to see if she checked in somewhere. Does she have any close friends you can call? Her family needs to contact the police. I don't want to scare you but if she spoke to you last night and no one else has been able to reach her for days that at least rules out foul play. She just might have gone off to get some space, but you don't want her to have too much space for too long.

Best wishes to you, keep you head up, but don't wait it out - be proactive!

Marie

We're praying for your Aunt! You mention she's been depressed lately, does she have any history of depression? It's a little disconerting that you say you talked to her last night yet she didn't really mention anything and she hasn't been @ work in 2 days. Why was her daughter at her cousin's for days - was this her aunt's choice? You have EVERY right to be worried.

Sue

No one knows where her car is. I assume it's wherever she is. No one wants to contact the police just yet.

She has a long history of depression. Like I said when I talked to her last night she just sounded a little "off." I was on the phone with her for a long time because I didn't want to let her go, I could just tell something was up. She said she was just tired though and we hung up.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear....my aunt is divorced. Her kid (my cousin) was staying at her father's house for the past few days...custody agreement.

Dear Princess Jasmine,
I'm so sorry to hear about the mystery with your Aunt. Just wanted you to know that our prayers are with you both.

Sincerely,
Smiling Jack's wife
