Hi Everyone,

Bet for once we were the first to make it home. We got back indoors about 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon and that was inspite of the dreadful delay with getting luggage at Gatwick, never known it so bad.

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful trip and it was so nice to be part of the group and sinceely hope we can meet up again sometime.

We had two couples on our dining table also that we had a good time with and plan to keep in touch also.

Safe travels to everyone and really hope we can put some pictures up, also need to put names to faces still so hard.
Bren:laundy: :sad1: :grouphug:
Glad to hear you got home despite the luggage delay. It was nice to meet you even though I only got to talk to you for a second!

Lauren, are you going to do a blog trip? I love your family. They were awsome.

Right now I'm trying to work a few things out, just some stuff I need to take care of and then hopefully I will have time. It was so great to meet you, you are so sweet and I am now totally ready to start watching Grey's!! :woohoo:

Glad you made it home fine. We got home around 12:30 cincy time so 6:30am in Barcelona. :faint: We were all exhausted but trying to get back on cincy time.

Y'all I'm gonna start crying again! I'm so sad it's over! Where did the time go?

Welcome home everyone!

Smiling Jack, thanks for the kind words about the dancing! The ship gave us a copy of the performances and we had a real chuckle watching! I'm sure star search is still searching...lol...but it was a fun time.

I'm trying to get caught up at work but the weather gods are having a hay day...we had no power or phones at work yesterday. Things are a bit better today but the storms have caused some serious computer glitches. It's always the way when you have a lot to do!

It was wonderful meeting all of you and I'm enjoying the blogs!

Marie

We did get home eventually. The travel gods were still grumbling @ us. We had a connection through Philly again, not our good luck airport. There were several air mass thunderstorms & we ended up sitting on the tarmac for three hours @ #55 for departure! We did finally take off, so @ least it wasn't as bad as when we left for the cruise. We got into Pittsburgh @ about 3:00 am Barcelona time. So I stayed the night in Pittsburgh but DB & Disney Lover Linda drove back home that night. DB had office hours the next day.

I can't believe after over a year of planning it's over. We ENJOYED meeting eveybody! We had a GREAT time even despite all the troubles. Thanks for making the cruise more enjoyable.

Steph, I still have the trolley car on my purse. I didn't realize it vibrated till on the way home my nephews kept pulling the cord!

You already had to go to work?! That absolutely sucks.

Wow you had horrible travel luck! I think we flew through that same storm. It was really stormy in Atlanta and they said it seemed to be moving away from Cincy but we were delayed in taking off and they were talking about a cancellation which was scary. By that point I was just so ready to be home.

I just picked my dog up at my aunt's house. It's so good to see her again. :goodvibes

Hi again everyone from troubled England.

Patricia, glad you did not have too many troubles this time in UK - did you manage to get the fish and chips? If not you will have to come back and we will do that together.

How do I find the blogs for the trip - am pretty useless sometimes at these things.

Jack glad to see you made it back o.k. was great the way we kept meeting up after that first meet at Gatwick on the 15th.

Steph, hope all is well for you in London especially with the latest problems just makes me so mad and wonder what pleasure these people can get from disrupting so many lives.

Managed at last to speak with my daughter in the flooded Yorkshire. It sounds horrific and her 10 minute drive from work took 2 hours and was a nightmare. Lucky that she has a diesel car as the water was up over the wheels in places and with more rain on the way does not look to end yet. Just hope the dam near Sheffield holds out. Many of our RSPCA animal inspectors have been sent to the area to assist but it covers such a wide area and my daughter said they are safe where they are but surrounded by flooded areas.

Leilani, hope you are o.k. did not see you after we visited you in your Roy suite but thank you for all of your kindness.

Still have one case to unpack -too depressing to do any more and again here in the South East it is raining.

Would love to read the blogs just hope someone can point me in the right direction please.

Good Morning Brenda,

Yes, we did get to a "Fish & Chips" restaurant. It was everything I expected & more. I have to say, my DMIL absolutely loved you & enjoyed all of your stories. Thank you.

We got home yesterday morning. My body is so confused as when to sleep. I need a couple of days to get back to normal.

We managed to see so much in London. We walked from our hotel to Piccadilly Circus, before the skies opened on us. We had to take a taxi back to the hotel in order to keep dry. (we had no clothes with us, our bags were at the airport)

The next day we took "The Bus" & toured London from 8:30 am to 3:00 PM. We even toured the Thames River by boat. It was an incredable day. We took your advice & did very well with the subway. We were able to take the subway back to the airport for only 4 Euros each. England was everything I dreamed of & more.

I saw on the news in London the floods. I see you are getting more rain. I am so sorry about your DD. I will keep her in my prayers.

Hi Everyone,

So glad you managed to get your fish and chips Patricia and please tell your MIL that I absolutely loved hearing about her animals and wish we had more time to chat. Where did that time go.

Believe it was Carol or I may be wrong wanted a receipe for Treacle Tart.

Here it is
Treacle tart

by Keith Floyd
from Floyd on Britain and Ireland
Serves 4-6
Preparation time less than 30 mins

Cooking time 10 to 30 mins

Ingredients
350g/12oz shortcrust pastry
135g/9tbsp golden syrup
125g/9tbsp fresh white breadcrumbs
grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp ground ginger
egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water)
Method
1. Roll out two thirds of the pastry and use to line a 25cm/10in pie plate or flan tin.
2. Warm the syrup over a gentle heat and add the breadcrumbs, grated lemon rind and 15g/1 tbsp of the juice, and the ginger. Pour into the pastry case.
3. Roll out the remaining pastry case and cut into strips; use these to create a lattice design on the top of the tart.
4. Decorate the sides of the plate with a fork, being sure to press the ends of the lattice well in. Brush the pastry with the egg wash and bake in the oven at 190C/375F/Gas 5 for 25-30 minutes until the pastry is crisp and golden.

Such a shame we are still getting rain - it is flower festival in our little St. Thomas church Harty this weekend and they do rely on it for funding as the building is 12th century and needs help all the time.

In an unusual and complicated series of events I will be moving to Orlando tomorrow. My older sister, Amanda, who many of you met works at Disney. She was going to be driving home to Orlando tomorrow and I was going to ride along with her to help out with the driving and then fly home a few days later. Well, we got to thinking that I might as well just stay down there the rest of the summer and work for Disney as well. I'll be able to stay in Amanda's house with her. So, if any of you will be in Disney any time this summer just let us know...maybe some of us can meet up again!

I have to go pack now. I can't believe I just finished unpacking and I have to go pack again!! I am also not looking forward to the 16+ hour drive after having just travelled 20 hours home from Barcelona. Talk to y'all soon!

Thats awesome!! I bet you all will have a blast together! Do you know what you'll be doing for WDW? Would love to go to Orlando, but since this trip put a pretty big dent in our budget, I don't think we'll be going ANYWHERE for a while. BTW, Mike and I think you and your family are wonderful - and lots of fun!! PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send the picture I took on pirate night. It turned out really cute. Almost forgot . . . we went to see Pirates again on the ship, and Mike has a theory . . . the first scene where the kid supposedly gets hanged (we never really see that happen) is really a preview for the next movie - and the kid is Orlando Bloom's son - the same one from the last scene. I'm not sure if I buy it though!!

I'm glad everyone got home safely. Our trip home was hellish. We got to JFK fine, but then things began to unravel. Our flight home to Richmond was cancelled (the last flight of the night), and everything for the next 2 days was booked. After hanging around in the airport for almost 9 hours, Delta chartered a bus for all of us trying to get to Richmond. We left at midnight and got to the Richmond airport the next morning at 7:00am. What a night. It felt SO GOOD to sleep in my bed last night!

It was great to meet everyone, and I'm sure I'll run into some of you on another cruise in the next few years.

Virgil, thanks again for the yummy wine. You spoiled us!! If you PM me your e-mail address too, I've got a couple pictures of you guys that I'll send.

Back to the real world!!

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Not sure what I'll be doing in Disney yet, Jodie. I'm kind of just going down there and counting on pixie dust I suppose. They won't hire you until you're down there so I'm just going to present myself and say hey give me a job! I had a lot of fun meeting your family too and I am so so proud that I can take credit for your son getting in trouble for nose spoon hanging.

Interesting pirate theory. :scratchin

OMG your trip home sounds AWFUL. All these horror stories made me realize how lucky we got. We didn't have any cancellations or lost baggage. At least you got home but wow you must have been exhausted. Rest up!

Hay Lauren,

I wish you all the luck down in Disney. Will you be there in November?

I will be there for a few days for "Jersey Week" I would love to treat you & your sister to dinner.

When are you two leaving for Fla? Have a safe trip

Patricia

We are leaving at 5am and we're going to try to drive the 16 hours straight through. Ugh. Not looking forward to that after all the travelling we just did. You're too nice, but no, I won't be there in November. My sister will but I have to be back by mid August to student teach. You're supposed to come down in July though, right Marie?

I'll check in with y'all whenever I can!

PJ WOW! I hope everything goes well for you & your sister in Orlando. That's a wonderful (& warm) city to live in!

I've been back @ work now for 2 days. Ho Hum! I'm all unpacked. Packing is more fun than unpacking.

Steph: Hope you all are okay in London. Kind of scary place to be right now. However, I think the police/scotland yard are VERY good @ handling things.

Skallywag: WOW! Flooding then the problem in London. Hope you and your family are doing well.

It's a sad time right now that some people feel they have to commit terrorist acts. I don't understand their philosophies.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Boy, I sure do miss Silver's countdown of how many Saturdays & Mondays till our cruise.

Sue

Hi all...
We're back. London...well it stunk!, but I am going to be open minded and if we get back, I'll give it a second go around.
We were tired and I went to bed around 8pm so I woke up this am at 5! I guess I'll have no problems going to work today.

Sue..glad you like the cable car.
Lauren..I wish we lived closer, we'd definately come and visit at WDW if we did!
Patricia/Brenda...London rained on us and basically we were stuck in traffic all day, but we did it. The airport was TERRIBLE..never had so much stress but we're home so it all worked out.

Lisa..we did book our "dummy date" to move to the summer of 2009 so look out..let's do it again!

Now it's time to get serious again. Finish the unpack, print the pics, work..ugh! and finish paying off next years cruise to the panama canal! Anyone who can decides to go, let me know. We'll be on the may.
Brenda, you should switch...hahaha.

Anyways, great meeting all of you. This was a fantastic vacation. If anyone ever comes out to SF, give me a holler...we'll take you around!

Steph

I just wanted to say "thank you " to the wonderful people we met because of this thread. That was one of the great things about the trip. We all loved the cruise and thank goodness we have such wonderful memories of the cruise to look back on because the flights were a nightmare. As many of you know we didn't get our luggage until the 3rd day of the cruise (and we were some of the lucky ones). However, the some of the wonderful Disboarders stepped up and gave clothes to my DD to get by. My DH and I were fine to get by but it is a little harder for a 12 year old. Then we had the awesome cruise and after is when our nightmare began. When we arrived into JFK at 7:00 p.m. (US time) on Wed. eve there was a terrible storm. We weren't allowed to leave baggage claims and US cutoms until almost 11:30 p.m. because they wouldn't take the bags off the planes during a lightning storm. Once we finally got through customs we had to swtich from Iberia to Delta. When we arrived at the Delta terminal it looked like something from a refugee camp. We got in line at midnight to try to book another flight because our connecting flight had been cancelled due to the storm. We were in line from midnight to 4 a.m. It took us an hour at the counter to finally find a flight to Greenville, SC (at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs) where we would have to spend the night and then the next morning (Fri) get connecting flight to Columbus. The other kicker was that we were at JFK and the flight left out of LaGuardia. So at 5:00 a.m. we took a cab to LaGuardia. We were not able to check our bags in until 12:40 p.m. on Thurs so we had to wait in the chairs in the departure area (no food).
Now the worst part of all of this is that my sister and I were throwing a big retirement party for my parents on Sat. so by now I am starting to get panicked. At 12:45 p.m. on Thurs. we were able to get a boarding pass and head back to our gate to await our 6:40 p.m. flight. At 6:00 the flight was put on a two hour delay and at 6:15 the flight was cancelled. We hurried up and got in line to try to get on another flight. Because we live in Cincinnati, we tried to fly into to either Cinn, Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, we didn't care as long as we could get close. There was nothing until late Sat. We decided to chuck it and rent a car and drive home. After we were able to retrieve our bags we went to get a rental car there was only one place that would be willing to give us a car to drive one way and it would be over $1500!!! Needless to say by this point we were exhausted and all I could think of was we were stranded and wouldn't be home in time for the party for my parents. In the end my brother-in-law drove to NY and picked us up. It wound up being a 14 hour drive home because there was a wreck on the Penn. turnpike but we finally made it home at 2 a.m. on Sat. We were able to make it to my parents retirement party (which was held about 2 hours from our house-yeah more driving).
All in all we are trying to focus onthe great cruise and the awesome people we met. We have our health, we made it home safely and in the end that's what is important.
So again, thanks for making our cruise memorable.:flower3:

We too have booked a date for a cruise hoping that something will turn up for 2009.
Can you remember apart from the 10% discount was there a shipboard credit?

Steph, sorry you did not enjoy London where did you go. Many problems at the moment with alert at Critical level again.

Seccurity once again must be a nighmare and it does put you off flying a bit because of the long waiting times but it is necessary to keep us as safe as possible.

Did anyone else find the meals not particularly good on the Magic this time, we were most disappointed and are writing to Disney to express this. Felt sorry for the servers having to serve the meals up knowing they were not a good Disney standard.
Bren

Just wanted to say welcome home everyone

Sounds like everyone had a great cruise

Kara and I are still pouting that we ended up stuck at home

but we have almost everything rescheduled at this point

Doing London/Disneyland Paris for spring break end of next March and currently on the 12/27/08 Western Caribbean cruise - but hoping DCL goes somewhere cool for summer of 09

WOW! You win the award for the most horrible travel story ever!! We were there the next night - Thurs - at JFK. We couldn't get flights either, but they chartered a bus for us (after 9 hours in the airport) since there were so many trying to get home. 7 hours overnight on a bus seems like nothing compared with what you went through!

Terry & Louanna,

We were also trapped at JFK. Our flight landed at 6:15 pm at JFK from Paris and then we we sat on the plane on the runway for 5 hours. When we landed the weather was fine, the gates were full and then the thunderstorm came. It was a war zone but Delta said the best they could do was standby on 9 am flight. Delta could not get us a confirmed seat until Saturday or Sunday. All 40 hotels were full and no rental cars were available on Wednesday night. It was very sad to have your family sleep in the Hertz rental car lobby. We tried to go standby on the first flight at 9:05 am but did not make it but at least they took our 9 bags of luggage off our hands. The weather for Thursday was again for more thunderstorms later in the day so the JFK mess was only going to get worse. We thought we would run into you there but I guess you had moved over to LaGuardia. I was able to secure (steal a rental car) by renting for one week as long as I dropped it back at JFK for around $ 800 (no I had no intention to drive back to JFK). I have no problem with 10-15 hour drives except that I had been awake for 36 hours already. We left JFK at 11:30 am and arrived home to Cincinnati at 2 am Friday morning. My wife and I took frequent turns and at 11 pm just had to pull over for both of us to nap for one hour. We live in Cincinnati and did not bother stopping in Columbus to pick up our car or see where our luggage is. My wife and I went to work on Friday morning at 8 am since we already were one day late in our return.

I called Delta to see where our luggage was on Friday and it only had just arrived at Columbus so I am glad we did not stop. Delta would not deliver our luggage because we did not have a file number for lost luggage. You can only start a file number in person after your flight. I told them I did not get off a flight because I drove and technically would still be sitting in JFK. I drove up on Sunday afternoon to dropoff the rental, pickup our car and luggage so the laundry monster has begun.

The further we get away from the JFK misery, we appreciate that we arrived home safely and all possessions are intact (except my wallet is lighter for $800+ rental car).

The cruise was a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime vacation that we will always cherish along with our new friends.

John

Brenda - Thanks for the recipe. I will have to try and make it this weekend. My DH had a grand time taking with you and your DH on Wednesday at both airports. We made it home fine last Thursday and then left for a quick weekend family reunion trip. We got home last night. I am so glad to be home for awhile. I go and pick up our dog from the kennel today. We will be happy to see her again. It is raining here today and I have mounds of :laundy: to do.

I really enjoyed meeting everyone on the cruise. Jack I will send you the pictures of the Harry Potter platform when I get them off of my DH's computer.

My DH booked a 4 day Wonder cruise for us for next July. We are planning to go to Disney World first and then the cruise. I want to try and book one of the 3 bedroom villas with our DVC points. So if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

Have a great week everyone.
