June 16, 2007 MedHead Cruisers

Brenda - thanks for the info on what to wear. And you are correct, the London Eye is an amazing ride. I did it last year with my parents and it was really neat to get a different perspective of London. We actually had some Londoners on board with us and they were very helpful with getting our bearings. I told the girls that if we have time I would like to ride it during the day and at night this time.

Another question. When you spoke of the churches in France it reminded me that I was trying to determine if the churches in the UK have a dress code. When I went last year with my parents it was a little cold so I was wearing pants everyday anyway, but I am hoping this June will be a little warmer.

Wow Steph - that's not good news. It's sad that the dollar keeps doing so poorly against the Euro and the British Pound.

I am glad now that I kept the pounds from my trip to the UK last May. I was going to exchange them and just redo it this year, but now at least I have some to start with that I got at a better exchange rate.

Is anyone doing Olbia on their own? The boards at the cruise critic sight didn't have much. We were thinking that we would either walk or take a cab to a beach for the day. Also wouldn't mind visiting Porto Cervo. Don't want to do a planned excursion here - spending too much in other ports. Any ideas?

-Jodie

We are doing Olbia on our own. We are thinking of going to the beach but haven’t made up our minds yet. Olbia seems like a good port to save some money in, plus the beaches look nice there. I read somewhere that cabs were expensive there and that the buses that went to the beach nice (and cheap). We only have 2 ports with nothing planned, the other one is Palermo. I think we may look around the city there.

Disney Fans--:tinker: Pixie dust for you to join us!

Thanks,
DH is still waiting to see if something can be worked out for work or if he could even do some from ship. We will see. At least was able to hold are FFmile airplane tickets for 2 weeks, so I don't feel like completely giving up yet.LOL

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far.

PJ - the docs include our "official" info, luggage tags, "boarding pass" etc. We just received our ABD docs this week, so I think the cruise stuff should be just around the corner.

$$$ question - since our exchange rate is the worst it's been since 2004, I'm going to wait a little longer and see what happens - my financial guy said May is usually better (but no guarantees). My questions is - I have a Capital ONe card that has no fee on purchases in Europe and a wachovia check card that has a 1% fee on ATM transactions. Does this seem pretty good?

Luggage limits:headache: :headache: We have struggled with this - from what I understand if you have a continuous ticket from the US, the weight limit from the US holds for the whole trip. We unfortunately bought a second ticket for our flight from Paris to BCN - much more strict limit. I researched shipping stuff there, paying extra for more weight etc., it wound up being cheaper to get business class seats Paris - BCN. The limit coach was 36lbs each (<40 anyway). :sad2:

Lisa - who are you flying with from paris to BCN? We are flying on british airways from BCN back to london. I think our weight limit is 50lbs at 1 bag per person. I can pay extra for the 5th bag and save a little money if I pre-pay for it online before we leave. I am trying to decide if I need the garment bag.

I can not believe this trip is right around the corner.

Lisa - who are you flying from Paris to BCN? This was my concern also. We are first/business class from US to London and Paris to US, but we are flying on Iberia from London to BCN then BCN to Paris. I am afraid we are going to be over the limit on Iberia and was just planning to pay what we had too. I need to give Iberia a call today to find out what the charges might be. I would bump us to business class, but it's a $1000 more per person  and I don't think we are going to have that much luggage.

Can I ask a favor of those going to Paris pre cruise? I would love to have some infomation and/or maps for DLP and sights to see in Paris before we get there. If someone is going to Paris before the cruise and remembers, would you be willing to bring me the information?

I would be willing to do the same thing for anyone that might be going to London after the cruise. I went to London last May(for 2 quick days), so I do have some tips for things to see there if anyone has any questions. Brenda is always a great source of information too.

Brenda - the earthquake in Kent this morning didn't affect you did it?

Carol - I got our tickets for Mary Poppins. We are in Stalls J26-J30. We should try to meet up sometime that evening. I am still not sure what we are doing for dinner, but maybe we can meet up at the theater sometime. It sounds like it's a pretty long show. It runs from 7:30pm to 10:20 pm with a twenty minute intermission at 9pm. Let me know and maybe we can set something up before hand. I don't know if you will have a cell phone, but we will have ours and it does work in the UK.

Here's the updated list for the Meet and Greet in the Roy Suite! If you notice, out to the far right hand side I have added a number which I believe is the number of your party. I am just trying to get a possible total number of people so we have plenty of drinks and goodies. If your cabin number or number of people in your party is incorrect please let me know. For those of you without cabin numbers I know you are still waiting on them, so just let me know when you are assigned a cabin.

Where is everyone! I seem to be posting to myself this morning!:bored:

I have some more research to do and then I need to get outside. It is beautiful here today!:sunny: I'll check back in later.

Have a great Saturday!

Good morning...
I am still researching the london portion of our trip. It's a quick stop, so I'll have to just see places, no time to go inside...:(
I can't believe it's 2 weeks until the ship leaves. I can't wait until their trip reports start to pop up.
See what really happens....
it's supposed to be 90 here today, so i guess we should get out early so we can get back to Air conditioning.

have a good day
Steph

I'm working - as usual. I also have been in London twice in the last 6 months - so I'll share what information I have.

Hi Everyone,
I'm getting my son's graduations invites together, cooking and cleaning, we're having company for dinner tonght! :) I love to cook. I'm also lurking around these boards inbetween everything else. I haven't decided what we are going to do in Barcelona on the 15th. I ordered two ATM cards yesterday, I'm not sure how much I'll use them but I just want to make sure I have access to cash.
Enjoy the weekend!

Marie

Hi - No strict dress code in churches in the UK so no problem. Agree on the eye it is good to have someone with you who can point out the places.

Trying to find out more information on the earthquake which hit Cheriton area near Folkestone this morning. Strange that is where the channel tunnel goes underground - makes you wonder.

Good Saturday Morning everyone

We have already had a baseball game and are getting ready for prom--YIKES it is expensive! The foreign exchange students are invited by the senior class to attend (which I think is nice :goodvibes ).

Leilani thanks so much for hosting the meet and greet in the Roy Suite--

I have not heard back from the Palo people about the secret room--will ask when I call DCL again :rolleyes1

So is everyone taking a credit card, ATM card and a few euros ahead of time? How many are enough to start with--100? I dont want to get caught without tipping $$--or are you just waiting till you get to the airport?:confused3

Checking back in before heading out like everyone else. Already 80 degrees here.

carol mb and dvc4us - we are flying Air France Paris>BCN. It was the cheapest business class. We will have been "over there" for 9 days already and thought about shipping stuff home, but that was going to be $500-1000 plus the hassle. So we bit the bullet and upgraded. Also wondering if we can get a garment bag in somehow:rolleyes1

dvc4us - we will be at DLP and staying at DL Hotel before the cruise and will bring you all the info you could ever want:) THanks again for having the Meet n greet for all of us!!
