We will be on our way to Orlando on the 13th. We should be arriving around 10am so we will still be 2 1/2 hrs away at the time of the Launch which should put us over on the coast with a decent view of the Launch. What I need to know is if there are any Radio Stations that broadcast the Launch so I would know when it is going off and I could pull off the highway to see it. I would guess that I would need a station out of Jacksonville?

Can't answer your question about the radio (although I'm sure there would be something on one of the radio stations), but I will let you know that I have been in the Orlando area for 3 shuttle launches now, and not one has ever been on schedule. They have always been delayed, and unfortunately, I have yet to see one launch. Hopefully that won't be the case for you, but I wouldn't hold me breath.

Radio stations here don't usually have "wall-to-wall" coverage of launches. The talk stations here in Orlando will usually break into their programming a couple of minutes prior to a launch and report for several minutes. I don't know if stations as far away as Jacksonville would cover a launch live but if did I would imagine that they do the same thing.

I don't think I've ever listened to a launch on the radio.

I was driving down the 408 toward downtown during the last night launch and WDBO broke into their programming to cover the last 2 minutes of the countdown and had pretty much ended their coverage before the shuttle was completely out of sight. Not much to it, more of a local report that the shuttle had lifted off and then "back to our program already in progress".
