We officially cancelled our reservation. I really wish we could afford to go. The price of the cruise was okay, but everything else was adding up to too much especially with a son starting college in the fall. I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Just a suggestion, The 14 crossing cruise is dirt cheap. Two adults and two kids in a cat 12 is $2935 when booked through Costco, $2860 from Dreams unlimited if you don't mind a room credit instead of a gift card.

Return air fair is about $480 to Orlando maybe a bit more or less to elsewhere in the US.

Except for tips and excursions you can be in and out for under $5500 I would think.

Anyway. sorry to hear you had to cancel. I'm sure a lot will before tomorrow.

We were shocked also by how much the whole trip was ending up.

We were able to book at the 90 day mark (this morning at 2:00 am our time), so we've got all our excursions booked now. I couldn't believe how fast things went and how some things weren't available at all. We wanted the VIP Pisa tour, but couldn't get it, even at 1 minute after the hour. We did the regular Pisa tour instead. Bummer.


Wondering if anyone else was up last night making plans like we were.

No, we got both brunch and dinner at Palo.

The excursions were crazy though....they flew off the screen as they minutes went by. We got our first choice on just about everything except Pisa. If we would have delayed just 30 minutes, I don't think we would have been successful at getting our choices. I've heard that they will release more tours/excursions for the 75 day people, so hopefully you will be fine. I'd be pretty mad if there weren't any tours left at 75 days. I would suggest you getting up in the middle of the night and booking them if you can.

yeah we will try we close on our new house on the 20th and i think the 75 day mark is the 23 at 2am so as long as our house stuff goes ok, we'll be able to turn our attention to that.

I am happy to hear that you were able to get most things. and you might want to try for your first choise pisa trip at the 75 day mark if they do indeed open up more slots (i assume at this point you could cancle your other one).

I was up at 5:30 this morning Mountain time and got all but one of my first choices for excursions. I was hoping to get the VIP Pisa as well. When I got home from work at 6:00 PM almost all of the excursions were gone. That just seems wrong to me that the excursions can get all booked at the 90 day mark. I don't have a problem with a few being sold out, but all of the excursions in Rome and La Spezia were gone. What are the people going to do that can't book until 75 days. I called DCL to ask when/if they would be adding more excurstions and the person I spoke with wasn't very helpful. All she would say was that they are all booked and they haven't been told if they will be adding any more. They better add more for the people that can't book until 75 days. My sister could book today, but didn't get around to it until she got home from work and was out of luck. I'm not happy with this at all.

The bad thing about the reservations systems is...

you can't switch around excursions.


You have to actually CANCEL the excursion you have and only then will you get to see what is even available. I'm too scared to cancel any of mine even though there is a chance I could get something else. One option I think is talking to the shore excursions people once onboard but I do know from past experience that you cannot CANCEL an excursion once you are on the cruise. I think under certain circumstances you can switch around excursions but not cancel. So make sure you really want to go on the tours you have booked otherwise you will get charged for them once you are onboard regardless.

Yeah, it really sounded crazy to wake up in the middle of the night for this, but it did pay off this time. I'm so glad I made myself do it. We actually had 3 staterooms to book, so my sister and I worked together using 3 computers, 3 logins and 3 reservation #s to get everyone the excursions. It was madness, but we worked quick and got most of what we wanted. When you are spending so much for a trip, the excursions just become that much more important, particularly with the ports we are visiting. I guess you could always schedule things on your own, but we prefer to use the DCL excursions.

I would be really mad too if nothing was left for me. I'm sure they are going to have to add more things, but maybe they can't guarantee availabilily for all the tours that were originially offered.

I would think the ones that didn't say "limited availibilty" might be around for us 75 day-ers. It does bother me that they do it this way because if i have a bad experience this time why would i ever rebook and have a chance at the 90 day. I just hope that we can get what we want. the most important one is rome. We have given up on seeing florence and will probably take the train from la spezia to cinque terre. the other stops i would like a few different ones and will probably be ok with what is left.

I just clarified with my travel agent that the reason I can't see excursions is because I already booked excursions for those ports, not because they are sold out like the DCL rep told me. DCL is only allowing one reservation per port. That's why it wasn't showing any availability in Rome, Naples, Palermo, or La Spezia for me, I already booked excursions for those ports. The only way to see if other excursions are available is to cancel what you already have or call them directly. I'm feeling much calmer today. Spending this much money is freaking me out I think!

we did get everything we wanted except palo ressies.... i guess i will try to get to the boat early and get them on the ship.

unfortunatly the "stay up and do it online at 12am pacific time" didn't work.... i tried for a half hour to no avail. and then friday was moving day and our phone line were already cut off by the time i woke up. I had to have my DH do everything once he got into work. but as long as we got everything i am happy.
