Have a trip planned for the end of July and it's getting close to my FP window. Should I pull the trigger and go ahead and purchase tickets and continue to be optimistic that it will happen? TIA

My wife and I have an anniversary trip starting July 17th. We still have it booked and will not cancel until we are forced to do so. Sadly all any of us have right now is pure speculation

I would just make sure you get your tickets from someone that can refund you if the parks aren't open. There was a thread on another board where CMs were advising people not to cancel their mid May vacations, so that's hopeful.

This right here, we had already purchased our tickets but are stuck until we know if Disney is opening up or not in July or how long they are extending their date based tickets for July if needed. We purchased from a third party before all this started, don’t do that if you think you will want a refund and not just a credit.

Can you afford to have the money tied up if it gets canceled? You have a few possible outcomes:
  1. You get to go on your dates. Yay!
  2. You don't get to go on your dates. In this case, one of several things could happen:
    1. Disney could extend your use dates for the tickets. This is what they've been doing. So far, instead of issuing refunds, they have been extending to early Dec. Those dates or policies could change. This only is useful to you if you can reschedule before early December. Can you?
    2. Disney could not do anything, in which case you could change your tickets online to any date this year, and your tickets would be worth what you paid for them (you'd have to pay any difference in price to change dates) Can you go this year at all if your July date is canceled?
      • If you can't go this year, your tickets would expire, and would basically be a coupon off the purchase of new tickets. However, these have historically required an in-person exchange, which means you can't prebook FPs (or you need to exchange them for a future trip on your next trip). Allegedly they are fixing this but I haven't seen confirmation.
    3. Disney could change their policy and let you get a refund. They could also make a one-off exception.
    4. If you buy from a 3rd party who offers refunds, they will issue you a refund per their policies (which typically involve a restocking fee). Undercover Tourist has historically allowed this although you'll want to check that that hasn't changed.
I'm going to buy my tickets for my September trip before my FP dates whether we know we can go or not, but my kids are younger than school age so rescheduling isn't that hard. Good luck.

I would definitely wait. Your FP window for end of July will not open until end of May. That is over a month away. Right now, we don't know when WDW will re-open. It can be in June or it can be in 2021. Hopefully by a few days before your FP window opens, we will have more clarity either way.

We are in same exact boat - trip booked for July 14, and planned on buying my tickets on May 10
At this point waiting till April 30 to make a decision whether or not to buy the tickets or not

I agree that no-one knows; it's all speculation/shooting in the dark. But if DisneyWorld is unable to re-open until 2021, that means all of the U.S. will likely be suffering from catastrophic economic ruin that will have 50+ million (or more?) Americans and countless businesses of all shapes and sizes in "beyond dire" straits, if not closed forever. It would take a minimum of a decade to recover from such chaos.

Horrifying speculation, however, is not really productive for my personal psyche; let's just take it a week at a time. My most recent "hopeful" mark has been a return to a "significantly modified new normal" by Memorial Day. And, of course, my greatest HOPE comes on Easter Sunday :).

I am planning the same thing. I will go whenever I can if they’re not open in July so I know I’ll use the tickets so buying them won’t be a big deal. But I think I’m going to go ahead & book a package so I can have the tickets on it that way.

In the same boat. We have a trip planned for July 1-10. Rented DVC points from a buddy of mine but have't bought tickets for the family yet. I've put off on buying our tickets as I am trying to decide if I want to keep the reservation in July or see what's available the week of Christmas. I'm afraid that the parks might be more crowded than usual this July with the parks closer. Decisions, decisions, decisions. At least December will be cooler.........

Thanks everyone. I think I will wait a few more weeks. I am very hopeful it will have reopened by then. All the daily doom and gloom is too much so I am trying to be as optimistic as possible.

No one knows. I don't really think it will be 2021, but I acknowledge that it is a possibility given the non-essential nature of Disney. I don't think they will open when many other businesses will have reopened. I think June 1st through 2021 represents a fairly good 95% confidence interval.

If you are interested in speculation, I invite you to the Rumors board where everyone is speculating whether it will open June 1st, sometime in late summer, sometime in the Fall or next year. 8-)

Thanks I need something to pass the time these days!

Warning! It's a bit of a rabbit hole. But, I also need something to pass the time. And you get all the different perspectives in that thread.

I also have an end of July trip (with back-up trips for Labor Day and Christmas), so I guess I'm on the optimist side.

Should I pull the trigger and go ahead and purchase tickets
I would not buy tickets right now.

I would ONLY purchase tickets if:
  1. I would use them in the near future if my July trip was cancelled (would you plan on next summer then)
  2. I knew my job was secure
  3. I was staying onsite (so that way if parks have very low capacity I know I can get in)

The IMHE models show Florida not even needing a bed, let alone ICU beds by June 29th. I would say that July is very much on the menu.

Models are typically built on keeping the current state of things or increasing precautions. Most will not account for the reduction in restrictions and increase in travel especially to a larger tourist area like Florida.

The Coronavirus task force was using the IMHE models in their press conference. They used this model to come up with the national policy we're living under. I'd be willing to feel optimistic about what they say.

Edit to add:. The IMHE projection assumes social distancing through May and still projects 0 beds in use on June 29th.
