July or August?

Normally we like to travel at less busy times, but this year our only opportunity to go is during the summer.
We were originally thinking about the 3rd week of August because the Isitpacked crowd calendar predicted a lower crowd for that week than most of the rest of summer.

But I also checked touringplans which doesn't seem to match that. So now I feel like we can be a little more flexible with dates and was just looking for some opinions on crowds/weather etc. for July and August.

We're rope drop/afternoon break/back in the evening kind of people and hopefully we won't mind the busier season.

Personally, I think you'll have better weather in July. It will be busy both July and August, but it's hotter the latter part of August/September.

I think IsItPacked predicted lower crowds in the 3rd week of August because that's traditionally when the summer season starts to wind down. It means shortening operating hours and a reduction in entertainment. The third week is just before the SoCal/SoCal Select AP summer blockout ends (8/22) , so that's also probably why that week is on the lower side (after the peak summer ends, but before the AP blockout ends).

HydroGuy has a thread with historic weather data. At this point, I think any weather is possible...it could be great, it could be miserably hot, or it could be raining! It's hard to say what things will be like in July or August.

The hotel we booked, for the room we booked is 149 a night in July and the third week of August is 99 and 109 a night so it seems it will be less busy for sure as many are going back to school or getting ready too.

When the kids were young/in school, end of August worked best for us. (always carry ponchos).

(I finally went to new posts - and just realized this is for CA). We went in July.
