I have been invited to camp with some friends of mine in July. I camped in 1978, but have NO idea on what its like in July. I will be arriving by train and am wondering what to bring besides a Sleeping bag? Could I possibly bring one of those inflatable mattresses? The tent fits 10 people and I will be part of 6 or 7. Thanks for any info you can give me! Also, what area is good to request?

In July you are going to need a fan and some tarps to cover the tent.Bring rain gear also. We went last July and it was SO hot. We live in South Ga. and know what hot really is but this was so unbearable we will never go during that month ever again!!!It is also the month that there are daily rain/thunderstorms. There were some REALLY scary ones the week we were there last year. Moderator Scott was there at almost the same time as well as SLTrawick and they can tell you that the storms were VERY SCARY. Lots of thunder and lightening and lots af trees hit by lightening. Take the rain gear so if a bad storm comes you can go to one of the buildings there to feel safer.

What dates will you be there???If you will be there on the 4th let me know coz I can fill you in on more things you can take.

I went camping at FW ONCE in July, it was in 1976. I have never gone in July again. I have never experienced such heat and humidity. I swear that I was breaking in to a sweat just taking a shower, and my hair never did dry out, due to the humidity. Wake up temertures are in the mid 80's amd daytime highs are in the mid 90's.

MUM4JENN is correct. There are daily downpours, the likes of which you won't forget. They hit with little warning in the late afternoon, usually between the hours of 3:30 and 5:00. Two tarps to keep the tent dry is a must, one over, and one under the tent, as anything that gets wet will stay wet due to the humidity. Believe me, nothing will dry out in this humidity.

A light sleeping bag, air mattress and pillow make sense, along with toiletries for showering often.

I would recomend bringing two changes of clothes, including undergarments per day, or plan on doing laundry at one of the comfort stations during your stay. Also, don't forget some anti-perspirant, suntan lotion, sunglasses, hat and lots of change for ice, water and other refreshments

Too bad you can't rent a RV instead of a tent, as your stay will be far more comfortable. Dividing the cost among 6 would keep the cost modest.

You live in Miami so you know what FL July heat is like. Perhaps you are young and won't be as bothered by the heat & humidity as some of us. Perhaps you plan to spend all your time in the parks and pools. Assuming all this is true, go and have a blast!

Your idea about bringing a sleeping bag & air mattress is good. Rather than a sleeping bag, you may just want to bring a light blanket & sheet - you'd end up sleeping on top of a sleeping bag in the heat. Also, bring:

your clothes, with extra changes
cool nightshirts & baggy shorts for sleeping
two swimsuits
toiletries, sunscreen, bug repellent
bandaids or moleskin for preventing/treating foot blisters
money and more money ;)
your own pillow, if you need one to sleep comfortably
flashlight with fresh batteries
couple pair comfortable summer shoes
personal water bottle to bring in the parks
ziploc bags of laundry detergent & dryer sheets (?)
a fan & indoor/outdoor extension cord, if possible

Ask your friends with the tent whether they will have all this... with the tarps needed and a cooler or two. When you get too hot & sticky, get inside a pavillion, an indoor attraction or video game area, a restaurant for a cool drink or go swimming. Disney Quest is all indoor. So is the movie theater at DD. Avoid long outdoor lines midday. In July, you can't worry about seeing all the attractions. The lines are too long and too hot. Hope you have FUN with your friends! :)

Thanks but NO thanks! I do not do well in the HEAT! When I went in 1978, it was in Nov, and quite cool! I think I will Skip FW this time and get a Room at All Star seeing they have the 49.00 a nite for Fl. Residents!! Thanks for the Info!!
