I am considering a dvc membership at either SSR or BCV. Since we mainly travel in July can anyone tell me if it is difficult to get either resort at the 11 month or 7month window??? I like the proximity of SSR to DD but BCV is my favorite even though I would lose out on 12 years. My concern is that I may not be able to switch anywhere else 7 months out if I purchase at SSR. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks

You should post questions like this on the DVC board. They have lots more experience with DVC matters.

Everyone always says buy where you want to stay. We brought at SSR before we knew this. As dvc grows, and more and more people want to try other dvc resorts, being able to book at the 11 month window will become more important. Have you been to SSR? We loved it...and were very happy to stay there(we have also stayed at BWV)...but this trip we are trying BCV and VWL. My boys 7yrs old will love stormalong bay...and I have always wanted to stay at WL. But once we do that we can check it off our list, and even if we only ever stay at SSR we will be happy. I also like getting the extra years of stay. Gook Luck.

You will get more responses if this were posted on the DVC board. For this reason, I'm moving this over to the DVC board. Good luck with your decision!

I always vacation in July, and I have never had a problem getting reservations at the 7 month window. What I usually do is reserve at one of my home resorts at the 11 month window, and then switch at the 7 month window. I have even changed ressies 2 months before arrival, and usually you can do it if it's not the 4th of July. The exception to this is for grande villas, which are very difficult to come by. Of course, if you are trying to get reservations less than 7 months ahead of arrival, you do need to be willing to alter your plans somewhat, such as taking two studios when you wanted a two bedroom villa.

If you want to buy at BCV, you can get on a waitlist, and then look at resales to see if you can find something sooner than if you waited for Disney. BCV is quite popular, so the price is somewhat higher than you might expect. ;)

If you're set on BCV most trips, I'd buy there so you can reserve at 11 months out. If you want to stay there a large portion of the time, try other resorts and will be comfortable staying at SSR, you should do well with any purchase including HH, VB, OKW & SSR. Buying BCV resale will not cost that much more per year than SSR.

Remember that for BCV (more than anywhere except maybe BWV) has some nuances of reservations that may or may not be important to you, esp if you want a 2 BR much of the time. They have 3 different 2 BR unit types and they are reserved independently. They are the lockout with a queen and pull out love seat, and two non lockoff's, one with 2 Q beds and the other with 1Q and a pull out queen. If you want the 2 Q, I would think you'd need the home resort priority. But the principle applies to BCV, BWV, SSR and VWL. And if DVC starts giving home resort owners a preference on unit assignments as most any other timeshare in the world do, that may play a role in your decisions and usage over the years.

We just reserved (at 11 months) a 2BR Dedicated at BCV for the first week of August next year just because its been getting tougher to get in there. Could we have waited until 7 months and one day-maybe but why risk it. I suspect many other BCV owners are planning further out.

For July 4 and 5 days each on either side of it, the 11 month window can be quite important (and generally you have no trouble any time of year at any home resort when reserving 11 months out unless you are trying for a Grand Villa which go fast). The rest of July is one of your medium to lower DVC demand times and often you can find rooms 7 months out at all the resorts although it will be much easier for OKW and SSR than BCV. Thus, if you really want to stay at BCV, the safer course is to buy there.
