July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

For Formal Night I always wear a long dress as I don't really have a lot of opportunity to get really dressed up except for New Years. For Semi-Formal night I will wear a cocktail dress. I have really seen all types of dress on both nights. I have seen some Men in polo shirts for formal night as well as Tuxes! No matter what you decide you won't feel out of place!!

I've been trying to find out from DCL which resort they are going to for their Cabo Beach Break excursion. "The Beach Club Resort" is what's listed in the description, but there seems to be no hotel by that name anywhere in Cabo. The CMs just keep telling me that is all they have for info. Trying to get to a supervisor to get more info. I'm hoping it's the Melia or the Hacienda, as both are on Playa Medano and close to the watersports place where I have prebooked our parasailing adventure (10% off if you book online!). The company is JT watersports. They have a website...and are located on the beach in front of the Hacienda hotel.

With regard to the beach at the Hacienda vs. the Melia, I've heard the Hacienda is more quiet and family oriented...the Melia more party-oriented. Of course, I know NONE of this first-hand...only from what I've read!!

My family is in for a dis beach party. :cool1:

Not sure about the beach break location. I sent the link for the Resort Pool Getaway.

Ocean swimming is not permitted. I understand this is common in Cabo because natural tidal conditions in Cabo can be very dangerous.

The Finisterra is on the side of Cabo where ocean swimming is NOT permitted (I think the Pacific side), but the Cabo beach break is at a resort where ocean swimming IS permitted! I copied the following about the Cabo Beach Break from the DCL web site...

Cabo Beach Break (4 - 4.5 hours)

Take a beach break! An approximate 15-minute ride transports you to the Beach Club Resort. Here, sparkling waters lap against golden sand, and umbrella-shaded lounge chairs beckon. Two complementary refreshments are available at the beachfront bar, as well as chips, salsa, and guacamole. A variety of water sports equipment can be rented, including boogie boards, banana boats, and sailboats, as well as parasailing for those who wish to enjoy a bird's-eye view of the beach and environs. After approximately 2.5 hours at this beachside paradise, you may take the approximate 15-minute ride back to the pier, with an optional drop-off for shopping, or walk back through town on a pleasant 1-mile stroll from the beach to the pier.

All water sports activities, including boogie boards, banana boats, sailboats, and parasailing, are available for rent at your own risk.

This might be a good thing to go for if we aren't sure about going off on our own!

Glad everyone likes the idea. I can't tell if we are leaning toward a true "beach" party or more of a "resort" get together. Votes? (I personally like the beach idea - banana boat rides as a group: what a hoot  especially after a marg :rotfl2: just think of the pictures! (BTW, what was the name of the camera someone was raving about many pages back? Elixim? Need to buy one quick and test it out before we board.)

Craig, t-shirt lord on high, I went to Zazzle but wasn't sure how to order shirts for Cassie and Timmy. There weren't mock up's for them. Was I being more web-challenged than normal?

Sheryl, I'm with you: pretty much anything goes for "formal" night. I usually wear a dressy cocktail dress with spaghetti straps - but NO hose, I am on vacation afterall. Chris went to Palo's brunch in a collared shirt. I wore a pant suit. But, I guess, you can't go by us. Casual is the name of the game around here. :p

Hey, who's organizing the next DIS meets. Seems to me Amy mentioned a bottle of vino to whomever takes it on. (and she has good taste :love2: thanks, it was sooooo yummy!)

And, didn't someone volunteer to create a web site ( I won't mention the quick, witty, organized male poster :rolleyes1 ) We could post which family is going on what excursion and even post pictures of those who wish to be identified ahead of time. (I am so good at creating work for others. There must be a job running a company out there somewhere.)

Cheri...I'm with you, I like the beach idea. I think the Cabo Beach Break would be great! I've never been on a banana boat before, but I bet it would be a blast!! My kids want to play at the beach at least one day...our other port days are dolphins and horses.

SHIRTS Don't believe I created shirts for Cassie & Timmy. They are not on my list. PM me know if you want them: cafepress for adults & zazzle for the tiny ones.

DIS MEET SUGGESTION #1 I was thinking the same think. You know, the Magic is coming into San Pedro May 28 and heading out on the first West Coast Cruise at 5pm. My family and I were thinking of going down and seeing it off. There is an Acapulco right up the road. Anyone who would like to join us for "A Sailaway Celebration From The Pier" and margaritas, let me now. Of course, were open to any other ideas.

DIS MEET SUGGESTION #2 There is one last Ferrel's Ice Cream Parlor in Mira Mesa. A great place to celebrate anything, especially for kids. We are always looking for an excuse to go since they closed the ones in our area many years ago. Close to the San Diego Dis'ers and not much worse for the inland empire Dis-ers.

WEBSITE Out of my area of expertise.

We'll meet you there!! My girls and I have been planning for months to make the trip up on 5/28 to welcome the Magic. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I work at the other end of Mira Mesa and know exactly where this is at. So that works for us too.

I think I volunteered to do the website. I'm no expert but I'm sure I can put something together.

We were just planning on going to the beach on our own in Cabo so we're up for a beach party. My understanding is that Medano Beach is easily accessible via water taxi from the ship and has plenty of watersports available. I was also looking at renting from JT Watersports.

No shopping done here this weekend. We were up in the Scouter family's neck of the woods at Winter Guard finals. We have been shopping for the girls for a while and have most of their stuff, including formals. Krystal is wearing her formal dress from the Winter Formal and I got Erica an inexpensive but nice formal dress. I haven't bought anything for myself yet because I'm hoping to shed a few pounds first.

Ok, I think I'm caught up now.

We are already signed up for the Cabo Beach Break but not opposed to doing a beach thing there or another. I have no problem going out in a group but had no desire to venture out on our own. DH gets nervous going to a new place to eat/shop so don't want to take him too far off the beaten path! (LOL). We won't tell him about the banana boat until he is on it!

We went today to get our passports. Went to the city hall and there was no line at lunch time, I was shocked. It took like 20 minutes with pics and everything. Although I didn't have DS ssn so I had to run home and call them. Just a word of caution to anyone who is planning on getting them and hasn't yet, the application asks for your parent's dob and birthplace. Thank God I have a head for numbers!

Beach Party sounds like fun but Dylan and I are doing the Horseback riding on the Beach. We leave from the Villa del Parlmar Hotel and ride along the Sea of Cortaz. We have Beach time included but I am not sure what Beach!

What a great idea to see the Magic on the 28th :cool1: - a good way to check out the port and parking as well. Can't go wrong with a marg at Acapulco's either. We'll call it .... practice. And Ferrel's: will that be a "trough"' or a "zoo" for you? :earseek: (if you aren't familiar: both dishes have at least 5-10 scoops of ice cream and gobs of toppings) Wow, brings back such great memories! We are in for either or both.

Great thinking Scouter-Dad! (According to Timmy, with each passing day, I seem to be losing IQ points rapidly. Not sure where I'm leaving them though.) :confused3

GrumpyMom: who was in the Winter Guard comp? I loved that in high school. Who won? (We watched Cadet Kelly a few nights ago on Disney. My kids are amazed that people actually twirl "guns" :lovestruc )

OK, sounds like a Cabo Beach Party with water toys. Banana boat rides, jet skiing, lot's of laughs, and most likely some great great pictures.

C'mon July! :Pinkbounc :cheer2: I'm ready :cheer2:  Let's go :jumping1:

Going to San Pedro sounds like so much fun. Megan is receiving her First Communion that morning so we can't make it :sad2: . It will be a busy day and out of town guests will be here, too. That might be a bit rude to just leave them (although I did think about it ;) ).

As for the dress--I'm feeling much better. I went into the closet and got out the dress I bought for another cruise and never wore. I like it much better than I remembered. It is fairly simple, but long and a beautiful silver. I haven't tried it on (a little scared to do that), but if it's too small that will give me an incentive to shed a few more pounds.

Looking forward to doing a beach get-together. DD will be so glad to spend some beach time with kids her age.

Yea should be getting our shirts tomorrow. Just checked UPS tracking and they are really close. It took 5 days to arrive from San Pablo CA to Maryland -- must have gone by horseback!!!!

Lori,

I am SO SORRY to hear about your illness. It was a STROKE? OMG! Hope you're doing OK. I thought I had a stroke last year and it turned out to be Bell's Palsy -- my whole left side of my face was paralyzed, including not being able to blink my eye. I couldn't talk right or eat correctly -- it was terrible!

Please let us know how you're doing! You're in my prayers.

Val

Lori,

So sorry to hear you are in the hospital. We'll keep you in our prayers. I hope they figure things out quickly.
