July 9th 2005 - West Coast Cruise.

Ya got me Chris! I'm just not sure what area of the company you're with; there are so many. Real estate? Selling? Hmmmm. You're not a professional golfer, are you?

By the way, I'd like to see guesses for Sara also. Or, at least some comments on my analysis/guess. Sara, are you willing to tell us at 9PM also?

OK, I'll post my occupation tonight. Any one else want to be our "What's my Line" candidate next?

Sara
I already gave away mine and Darren's occupations, so we're unforunately out.... Bummer...

Note to self: Do not divilge pertinent information, which could be used to artificially inflate the post count!

This is going to be like that "Who Shot JR?" episode on Dallas!!!

Chris
That still is one of the best episodes of TV EVER!! Of course with the exception of the last episode of M*A*S*H.

Really?? I hadn't noticed!!!
Lori, I'm the one most guilty of puff-posting to keep up the pace we need!!! Besides, I have a little surprise for everyone at 9PM which I think will make clear that I do "get it"....... :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Chris

And the worst thing is that us on the East Coast have to wait until tomorrow morning, since 9PM PST is WAY past my bedtime!!!!

See Chris, I'm also trying with gusto to keep the post count up!

Poor Lori. At least you *will* see the answers - not like you'll miss the 'last episode.'

I'm also intrigued, Chris mentioned at the beginning of this that the "last one" got up to 89 pages... Ya just gotta wonder when he started the Longest Thread *ever* competition & who he's competing with (or if he's just going for personal best). :teeth:

Sara,
You're probably not going to believe this, but I contributed a total of 1 post to that thread, and that post happened after the cruise. If you don't believe me, take a look at the "join date" on my profile and compare that to the last cruise date on my signature below.

So, people, we're chartin' new territory here and settin' our own standards!! I just used that other thread as a frame of reference for what's possible in a Cruise Meets thread. I've looked at some other threads involving cruises about to sail. Most have less than we have already. Wimps!!!!!!! pirate:

Yes, the moment we’ve all been waiting for….

Well, not quite. I thought I’d first address the guesses that were made. I recommend you read these in order….

Chris

Nope. I pretty good guess, I would say. While I am very good with numbers, I wouldn’t want to crunch them all day long. :teacher: And, most public companies don’t let their CFO’s fly all over the place talking to clients….they want them in an office with the door closed using Excel and having conference calls with stock analysts…

However, you got the money/finance part right. And, only one letter in your “CFO” guess is wrong…..

Oh, God no. Sara, this guess scared the *poop* out of me even just thinking about it. When I said I was biting my lip, I almost severed it clean off on this one. A neighbor of mine is a producer, and from what he has told me, there’s no flippin’ way I’d want to be a producer!!! I don’t suffer melodramatic, tempestuous, or arrogant personalities well at all. The thought of putting up with actors, actresses, directors, and other high-maintenance “creative types” would drive me up the wall. You’d all be visiting me at the Trembling Hills Home For The Nervous instead of cruising with me on the Magic if I did that for a living!!!

Phew!! OK, Chris, breathe….in…..out….in….out…..

Well, I was going to say you were late, but you actually clocked in on time with a post (even if it doesn't *actually* reveal what you do).

I confess you had me pretty closely pegged. I'm a controller for a small company of a couple hundred that rents out audio/visual/lighting gear.

Sara

Strictly speaking, no. I put it that way only because at my company (as at most companies in the financial services sector), all executives (except CFOs, as I mentioned earlier) are expected to participate in the sales process in some capacity, even if it just means glad-handing, wining/dining, taking clients to the Masters or Super Bowl, etc.

But no, I’m not a salesman. The idea of cold-calling someone for business gives me the willies. Using Sara’s fact-based approach, how could you have eliminated this occupation from consideration? Most San Diego-based sales people are not going to have a territory that includes New York, London, and Amsterdam, which are all places I specifically said I go to.

You know, I started thinking about all of the things I could possibly say about this particular occupation, jokes I could tell, stories I could relay, and names I could name. I’ll even say, just in case any of you are lawyers, that the ones I know are fine people. In the end, I’ll just simply say that I am not a lawyer, and I don’t play one on TV.

Sara, perhaps you can moderate a thread called “What are all the things you dislike about lawyers”. You’ll get to 90 pages in a day or two, I’ll wager. I’d also wager that your edit/delete powers would be exercised early and often in that thread.

Amy gets the prize for identifying the profession I would most like to have, if I could pick anything. Unfortunately for us both, it’s a fantasy, not reality.

Good guess, though. Made my day. :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Great guess. Kudos to you Lori for gathering your facts, evaluating them, and drawing a very logical conclusion, all things considered!! I’m very impressed!!

Of course, you know that Lawyers are the biggest collectors of "lawyer jokes"...

So, Chris, what does your company do, besides sending you junketing around the world...

Sara

But……you’re wrong, I’m afraid.

Good profession, there’s nothing about it that gives me the willies or would cause me to be institutionalized, and I could easily see myself doing this for a living. But I don’t.

This is getting to be one of those “OK, was it Mrs. White in the conservatory with the candlestick?” kinds of things. I’m either being very clever here, or very annoying, I can’t tell which!!

…we’re almost there…
