Oh Princess Bette, I am so glad you and your family are ok, but so sad that others around you are not.Experiencing a tornado is frightening beyond belief, I am so sorry you all had to go through that, and that so many lives were lost.
While we live about 12 hours or so north of you, so there isn't really anything I can do, but if you do need a place to stay to get away from it all, I do have room in the cold and windy north!
Of course, our weatherman said that the strong jet stream will be moving north in May/June, so looks like us northerners will be dealing with more severe storms. Plan your get-away before then!
All joking aside, my prayers are with you and your family. Take care of yourselves.![]()
Thank you so much for the kind thoughts and the offer to get away. It's funny though...some people I know who were not directly affected by the damage just packed up and went to the beach! While I am not judging anyone for what they feel is best for the their family, I cannot in good conscience go on a spur of the moment vacation in the middle of this disaster. There are so many that need our help. My husband and I were running some errands today and saw first hand several areas that suffered major damage. Homes wiped off their foundation, cars mangled in fields, power poles and trees snapped like tooth picks. It just broke our hearts to see people literally on the ground looking for anything that may be left of their possessions. Tomorrow, my DS7 and I are going to donate clothing and other items to the local EMA. Power remains out for a lot of people. Ours is on now and today we gained phone service...internet is still out. Two blocks away they are still without power. Schools remain closed. Curfews are in place from dusk to dawn. Today, we took our motorhome to a family to stay in so that they will have power and water and can cook meals. This has been very humbling for me. Oh, I almost forget to tell you...my DH was out of town in Ohio for work when the storms hit and did not return until late the following night. So it was just me and my DS7 until then! After the storms cleared out, I "moved" us to the motorhome since it has a generator. My DH was proud I was able to set it up by myself. Not only that, but I ran an extention cord from our home refrigerator and plugged it in to an outside outlet in the motorhome and was able to save our food! I tried to make it fun for DS so he wouldn't worry too much about what had just happened. We pretended we were camping! Anyway...we are safe and very thankful to be spared this time.
Luvavaction...congrats on the timing of your mom's surgery! Wonderful news. Welcome to those who have just joined our group! And congrats to all who were able to book the excursions you wanted!!
