July 5, 2011 - Mickey's WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

more info on that please? do you just sit it out? drink it or what?

I had a barbecue on Sunday. My guests were complaining about mosquitos bites. I remember reading about the Listrine on the boards a few days before.

I quickly found a empty water bottle & filled it with Blue Listerine ( I didn't delute it) I then sprayed it under the table around our leg area & outside the sourrounding picnic table. I sprayed about every 10 minutes, since the table was filled with food. I was shocked it kept the masitos agway. No one was bitten after I sprayed. :dance3:

He will have 2 more when we get back. and then he should be done. i have mentioned to him the number of people in our group that are cancer survivors and some that have recently went thru chemo so i think he is looking forward to knowing that hes not alone and havin others to talk to.

July 5 (what time & where is the meet??) I know we are to wear green ribbon, but not sure where we are all meeting.

At our meet maybe we can plan a "Survivor meet" We actually did this on our last cruise.

Progress is made :
documents fully read - check
suitcases down from attic - check
formal wear - check
pirate outfit - check
green ribbons - check

gotta go, many more days left to figure out what I'm wearing! Walt will wait until the day before and throw everything into a suitcase. he'll have everything he needs, while I on the other hand will have forgotten something. where is the justice in that?

Children are so excited about getting Canadian money. I cannot believe that I have a local bank that can get it in 2 days! Loonies and Toonies for tipping while in Vancouver!

We got ours today but the smallest they could give me was $5's. No Loonies or Toonies until we break some bills in Vancouver. :)

Our money does look like play money, but at least you can easily tell the bills apart. I'm always scared I'll give away a larger U.S. bill accidentally!:)

I like them, they are very colorful. I hear that next year some of them will be polymer.

Haven't been on much as we've been without power since the storms rolled through on Tuesday night. I was able to post a bit from work and now Mark has a generator running so we can get basic tv, our computers and of course keep the fridge and the sump pump running.

Oh, that's awful! I had no idea you were suffering weather woes in Chicago. Our first days of summer have been promising. We had a very cold winter, with Mount Washington nearby having the world record snowfall, but I'm hoping we'll have a clear, sunshiny cruise...(although I've packed for all contingencies)

We just had one nasty storm roll through Tuesday nights. Lots of heavy winds. At one point about 300,000 were without power. They have been getting it back slowly but we are still out. They say we should have it back tonight. I sure hope so. This weekend we are packing!

Wow, that's a long time, and to think I get upset when power's out for 2 hours - next time I'll be thankful that it came back on so quickly! Hope you get it back soon!

No Loonies or Toonies for us, but I plan to get some before leaving the airport. We can always buy some water before leaving the airport. I think someone else mentioned this, but my husband's comment was "monopoly money." He also said that trying to counterfeit Canadian money would be quite difficult. Are there any Canadians out there that can comment on if they have people who actually try to counterfeit? Just curious.

Yes, we get counterfeiting all the time. I don't know how people do it, but they do!

By the way, I still haven't received my Welcome Package for the ABD portion of my trip. I wish I could connect with some other ABD passengers to find out what they received. Because I'm in Canada, I have to receive this stuff from my travel agent, and I have a pretty lame fellow I booked with on-line (allseasonstravel) who can't get it together to send me the package he apparently has in his clutches. I am a little stressed out being constantly told I have no port adventures booked and not having any of the magical milestones to help me anticipate the vacation ahead! Frustrating!

No help but I'm surprised since I'm using the same TA (and have for a couple of cruises) and they have been wonderful. If you are unhappy with your agent have you contact Chuck the owner?

As for what to expect with ABD did you check the ABD forum here? Here is one post about the Alaska portion http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2633427&page=3

Toiletries are now ready, Walt's got items in a clothes basket ready to go into the suitcase, so I feel like we're in good shape packing wise. Just waiting for the 10 day forecast to get closer so I have a better idea of how many pairs of jeans to throw into the suitcase.
How's everyone else making out? Walt just informed me he wants to look into getting a new lens for his camera - his reasoning - "well, you want really nice pictures, right?" How do I argue with that reasoning? :confused3

Yes, I contacted Chuck this morning for help. The fellow I have been dealing with is not very good at communicating with me...

Thanks for the forum tip...I'll scoot over there right away.

...as to weather forecasts?? Good luck! Yesterday we had alternating hot sunny periods where I was out in shorts and cold rainy spells I had to light the fireplace. I have found it absolutely impossible to predict weather on the west coast. I am anticipating any and all kinds of weather. I know Disney will make it fun no matter what climate we encounter, but it will help to be prepared...

We brought the suitcases over from the barn yesterday. Does that count as packing?

Tell Walt and I went to look into the possibility of getting a new lens yesterday. After I found that the next telephoto beyond what I already have is $900+ I told him we'd have to be happy with our memories and the pictures my little telephoto could get.

We did get a new HD camcorder. SO excited that we leave next Saturday!!

We are still without power and running on a generator but no lights. It is powering the sump pump, fridge, and the other essentials like the tv and computers :lmao:. They say we'll be up by noon I hope so.

The computers and TV would be 'essentials' in our home too! Our old generator configuration didn't run much besides our sump pump, furnace, fridge, and freezer. A couple of years ago we invested in a whole house generator that is hooked right into our propane supply. When the power is out in our neighborhood we are lit up like a Christmas tree now :thumbsup2

Hope your power is back on shortly!

Progress made on two fronts:

We've seen some ComEd works walking the line behind the house so at least they are here and working on it. :worship:

Packing of the garment bag is done. The other two small roller bags are down and all that needs to be packed in them is out on the bed. I need to do a little bit of laundry once the power is up. So doing good.
