July 5, 2011 - Mickey's WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

Here's a great shot a friend of mine shared showing the Wonder at Canada Place:

Love this pic - thanks for sharing!

Love the picture and am glad to have the weather forecast. I would much prefer to have to layer than to be too warm. Alaska here we come!

3 days of school left, thank goodness they are all half days, with field day being one of them. Finally got a hold of the travel agent, documents are in (I think they've been in for a while and she just didn't tell me), she's going over them this weekend and I'm picking them up Monday. At least I know they aren't still floating around somewhere, I feel better now. Starting piles in earnest this weekend. Thanks for the forcast, it will help me decide quicker what to pack. Can't blieve it's less than 3 weeks away now!

Just took care of the last bit of business for the cruise. I booked our transportation from the airport to the hotel. We'll be taking DCL transportaton from the ship back to the airport.

HI Mary,
What did you book? We were thinking of taking a taxi....

Teresa

We booked a town car with Black Gloves Transportation. They are based at the Pan Pacific where we are staying. www.blackgloves.ca if you want to check them out.

ok i was just planning on taking the sky train to the hotel (pan pacific) but after looking at the web site i just sent them an email to see what would be available for us and decided i might just splurge and surprise dad with a limo ride to the hotel. :thumbsup2

Sounds like fun! Now I'm a little nervous that I was just planning on a taxi.

well with 5 of us i figured a taxi would be not very comfortable and might end up having to take 2 if there wasnt something big enough for all of us which is why i was doing the cheaper route of the sky train. will see what the reply is and see which way it really ends up being.

Let me know what you find out! I don't know about the four of us cramming in a taxi with our luggage. My sons and husband said they'd be happy to abandon their suits for less luggage ;)

Good morning everyone! Just two weeks of work left and then we are on vacation!

All our dinner clothes are picked out and on the rolling rack in our dining room. Now we just have to gather up the day clothes and we'll be ready.

Tracy - sounds like a nice treat for your Dad.

Teresa - I think you'll do fine no matter what you choose. We just wanted to book something now and not have to worry about it when we get there. We just go through baggage and customs and there will be someone waiting with a sign for us. Had that last year in CA and it worked out well.

When we saw a trailer for Cars2 this weekend we noted that we won't see it at home as we're sure it will be the big movie for the cruise. That should be fun.

Need to start getting more things out and on the table like passports, binoculars, etc.

I have been excited seeing the Cars 2 movie promoted as well! I tell the kids to hold off so we can see it on the ship!

Good information. From what I've been told by friends the key is to layer. So we are planning on long pants, short sleeve shirts, fleece hoodies, and a waterproof windbreaker jacket. We'll most likely wear all layers for our whale watching excursion but maybe just one or two layers for days when we are in port but no on the water.

I know that this may be useless information, but I just got back from a british isles cruise that went to Iceland, and the temperatures looks almost the same as what I just got back from. In some places more north, and if there was a breeze, it was COLLLLLD!!!

The things that you are packing sounds perfect and was what everyone was wearing. I saw alot of people also wearing scarves and gloves too. There was a point where I wish I would have brought them. I am planning to pack for us the same things. Even on the excursions they were recommending people to wear a waterproof windbreaker of jacket of some sort.

Hi y'all!

I've been floundering in other sections of the DIS forum, clueless that there was a very busy group of people in the "meets" section. I am computer skill-less, really. So I have a bit of catching up to do...

There's me and my DS(15) and my parents on the cruise (2612 for us and my parents about 30 rooms away - they booked with an agent after the cruise was sold out!). Michael and I are doing the Adventures by Disney package. Is anyone else?

We live in Campbell River, which the ship passes by twice-weekly (albeit at midnight or 2 AM). We also have a place in West Vancouver. I've scanned the posts and you're all making great hotel choices and you'll love the city...it is beautiful, despite the recent negative media coverage. Everything will be peaceful when you arrive for the fabulous cruise we're all going to have!

Karen

Welcome aboard Karen. Glad you found us!

I'm Mary traveling with my DH Mark (rarely posting as MarkRG).

We aren't doing the ABD as we found it was just too expensive for us. I've heard great things about ABD so I'm sure you and your son will have a great time.

Hi Mary/Mark;

I saw your forum activity and am very impressed. I thought I was organized and rarin' to go, but you guys put me to shame!

I am still reeling from the ABD cost, but really didn't want to be bothered with the details, as I've been battling aggressive breast cancer since December (just finished chemo two weeks ago) and am looking for a completely hassle-free vacation with my son and parents before surgery 2 days post-cruise and 5 1/2 weeks radiation thereafter.

Michael and I did ABD Italy in September '09 with my husband (he's sitting this one out) and we absolutely loved the pampering and magical touches...so I'm in for the excitement again!

I'm looking forward to seeing the green ribbon group at the terminal...we're getting there at 11 (you can recognize me because I have no hair!).

Karen

Karen - you picked the right group to go with. I'm sure you haven't had a chance to read all of the thread but we have a number of cancer survivors cruising (myself included) and one parent who is going through chemo now.

I did one of my cruises 2 weeks after my last chemo so I know how draining it can be. I think using ABD makes perfect sense as they will take care of everything!

Actually, Mary, I did spend part of yesterday skimming through the entire thread and I was very heartened to see others in the same boat (ha ha).

I'm still waiting for my ABD Welcome package to arrive. My account keeps saying "no port excursions booked" when I have every port excursion booked! I will be very happy when the pixie dust finally gets here.

yeah dad told me not too long ago that he has another chemo the week right before we leave so our trip out might be draining for him.

the email i got back from the company said a 6 person stretch limo was 65 and then a possible additional 50 for a trailer for luggage depending on how much we had. so i am going to set that up as i think with dad having chemo right before we leave he deserves to ride in style to the hotel. :thumbsup2

Hi Karen,
We looked into the ABD add-on also. Didn't choose to do it as it was a large amount of money and we would have chosen a bit different activities. We too have had the pleasure of going on an ABD tour. I agree that the peace of mind knowing all the arrangements will be top notch and carefree is priceless!

We'll look forward to hearing all about the add-on!
