Putting crowd size aside ( I know MK will be very crowded, and so will EPCOT -LOL) Which park would you spend July 4th in... and why?

Any special celebrations for the 4th?...
Any Special Fireworks added??...

Do they do any special Fireworks in MK on the 3rd?

Anyone been there during those days??

Thanks for your input...

Most likely, special fireworks displays in 3 parks (MK, Epcot, MGM). I have not been inside the MK but have heard it often closes for capacity in the afternoon. I'm not interested in being there. I'll probably spend time at MGM and walk to Epcot in the evening for fireworks. Epcot is so large it does not close for capacity as much.

If I was staying at Boardwalk Villas, I'd definitely choose Epcot - nothing beats walking back to your resort with crowds like they'll have for the fireworks. I'm staying at Old Key West but will leave Epcot post-fireworks and catch a bus to PI. I always do this and never have a problem getting a bus; most everyone else is trying to get back to a resort somewhere.

I'd like to know the answers to these questions! We will be arriving on July 3rd as well and would like to take advantage of any "special" things that will be going on for Independence Day! We don't care about the crowds either (we'll deal with that!) but, I would like to hear about other people's expierences just the same!

OK,

Here's what you need to know.

First of all, Epcot's show is far more powerful and bigger than the Magic Kingdom's show. With this process Im going to tell you, you can see all three of the July 4 shows.

July 3 - The Magic Kingdom generally does it's July 4 show on BOTH July 3 and July 4. It is the exact same show, in full power on both nights. Go to the Magic Kingdom July 3 for that show. The crowds will be heavy here so get into the park a little early to make sure you get in, though we showed up 1 1/2 hour before the show and got in, but Main St. was PACKED LIKE SARDINES!

July 4 - Epcot. Go to Epcot for their show. Im telling you, this show is UNREAL! SIMPLY AMAZING. Also note: it's so large you dont need to be up front to get a prime view.

HOWEVER, YOU MUST WATCH THE SHOW FROM THE FUTUREWORLD SIDE OF WORLD SHOWCASE. Since July 4 is an American Holiday, every year during the biggest part of the show, most of the fireworks comes up from behind the America Pavilion and if you are at the American side of World Showcase, you are not going to see NEARLY as much. Also during the main finale they shoot them from behind the American Pavilion and on the lagoon and if you are on the American Pavilion side of the lagoon you won't be able to see both.

If you are on the Future World side of the lagoon you can see it ALL. Also just FYI, the finale is so large over Lagoon that if you are in the front row you may not see as much. This is the one show that standing back a little may help the view.

Also, generally the show at MGM is one hour before the one at Epcot, and I can tell you from experience that if you go to the World Showcase Lagoon and stand near the second store on the left as you enter WS, you can see the show from MGM as CLEAR AS DAY! You can hear the explosions and see the show like you are sitting right there.

The show is good but, if you plan on watching the show at MGM and then rushing it over to Epcot, note that most everyone there will have the same idea as you and unless you go by foot, you may not get to Epcot in time (and by foot that's a hefty walk/run/jog).

How good the shows are in order (IN MY PERSONAL OPINION).

#3) MGM - Good fireworks, good but very short finale , somewhat your basic fireworks show. About a 10 minute show.

#2) Magic Kingdom - The show is very good, the music is very patriotic, the perimeter fireworks are great, the show has a "mirror show" where everything that is going on behind the castle is going on, the same time, shot for shot on the island outside of the MK. Honestly, the Ferry Landing is almost a better view for this show than in the park. Show is only about 10 minutes long from beginning to end. Very short finale at MK.

#1) Epcot - Unreal show! The normal Illuminations is played, followed by a good July 4 show. From beginning to end it's probably a 15 - 17 minute show. UNREAL show! Power! Noise! GREAT music! FINALE IS UNRIVALED BY ANY OTHER!

WOw, Now that is a thourough answer !!! thank you ! I hope you had that saved somewhere, and just pasted it to reply...

Our plan is to attempt MK on the 3rd... I hear, you should get to the park early and DON'T LEAVE right?
We plan on EPCOT for the 4th, and that will also be good for exit time... we are staying at teh Boardwalk, so we can slip out the back door... away from the crowds...

We made duplicate dinner ressies in both parks at the same time for both days.... That way if something falls through and we need to switch days, we will have a place to eat.... I hear if you didn't ADR's on teh 4th, you don't eat... LOL unless you want counter service...

Thank you for you help... any other advise would be appreciated....

Wow what a great post!

I was just going to post that we went last year from the 2-8. We went to MK on the third and it was as busy as we expected for the time of year, but absolutely manageable (it was also EMH in the morning). We watched fireworks on Main Street - what a ZOO!! Great show though - definitely patriotic and had me tearing up!

We did AK onthe morning of the 4th - not bad at all. Then we napped and hit DTD for dinner. Didn't want to be near a park LOL to battle crowds. Interestingly, we got off the bus at POR immediately before the start of fireworks SOMEWHERE (not sure where - prob MK?) around 11pm and had a great view! Have a wonderful time!

:thumbsup2
This is good information. I will be staying at BWV's during the 4th of July holiday, and I will make a point of avoiding MK on the 4th.
Epcot on the 4th sounds like a plan. Now all I have to decide is where to eat.
Thanks. pixiedust:

That's a bold statement. While I haven't seen the July 4 show, I've seen the Holiday Season add-on for Illuminations and it's unreal. Have you seen both? Is July 4 even better? A yes to that would probably make me make a special trip just to see it!

:)
