July 4 2009....Who'se going?

Hi Connie,
Nice to see another Floridian coming on the cruise! We are in S. Florida. I love Rummy Cube but have never played Mexican Dominoes. How old is your son? Mine's 8 and I'm hoping there will be other boys around his age on the cruise. We're on deck 5. Hope to see you on board!

:welcome: Another DIS'r. WOOT!!
The DW and I have played Mexican Train with her Gramsbear, so count us in on the fun. I haven't played rummy of any type in quite some time.

I just logged into my reservation on DCL's website (11:25am pst). There are still spots availabe for the Sea Trek dive, but the tours of Coral World are booked. The benefit to the Sea Trek (at least according to the desc) is that you after you are done with the main part of the excursion you get some free time at Coral World for departing. In all, you still have time to book it :)

Rummy Cube is played with tiles and Mexican Train is so easy to learn....we could meet in Diversions some afternoon to play.....we can finalize the details at the Dis Meet.....unless someone wants me to start a sign up sheet now...just pm me!

We booked this cruise a few weeks ago. We live in SF as well. My DS will be turning 9 on the cruise and we are on deck 5 as well.

Our three families are all on deck 2 - those of us with 5 family members each booked two cabins to give us more room.

Our family of 5 all have our pirate costumes unpacked from storage & ready to sort through. I still have to do the on-line financial forms, as well as make some thank you cards for the kids to give to room service along with a tip (we did it last time, but I can't find the template I used) :confused3

Youngest DS is in his final week of school. DH's trip to China got moved, so now although he's still out of town until the cruise, he's only a 2.5 hour drive from home. :cool1: One minor mishap yesterday.... middle DS turned 13. That isn't the mishap! He went to a friend's house & fell and injured his thumb. It hurt a LOT and swelled up, so I took him to the ER for an xray, and after 3 hours he came home in a cast - possible break or injury to the growth plate. We'll find out more in a couple of days. Poor kid

Magnets......anybody got some neat ( I know, I am old) magnet or magnetic signs planned for their doors!

I am going with Patriotic theme....

Here is just a small sampling of some of the magnets that will hit our door during the week. (click to enlarge)

I was going to reply that we are recycling most of our magnets from last year, but Khazid I really like your map one with where we are going..... would you mind sending me the file, so I could edit it a bit for us??????

We have mickey ears and a name tag for each of us that a DISer did with our favoriate character and a few others.

Not a problem (and thanks :)). Will send it to your e-mail address. I'm at work, so it will come from my work address as an FYI.

BTW, if anyone else would like any of these feel free to take them from my photobucket or if it is easier, I can e-mail them to you.

I used Photoshop as my primary editor for these so if anyone wants those files (.psd) which still have all the layers intact (stateroom numbers, quotes, etc.) I'll be happy to send those as well.

We tend to add to our door daily with new signs. Each family member has their own personal one (with DIS id for the 3 of us that post). We have one for pirate night, mickey ears to go around the door number, as well as a number of patriotic ones since we've cruised over July 4th in the past.

OH WOW!!!! Those are beautiful!

I'll bet my door might have some of those too! Well, maybe not the one saying: the Miller Cruise.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You are an expert at PhotoShop!!!!

Thank you very much.:banana::banana:

I definitely am not an expert, but I've been playing around with Photoshop for a few years. I actually just learned how to manipulate layers with transparencies and masks while creating a lot of those signs. LOL. Oh yeah, Undo (ctrl-z) is your very bestest friend when in any editor. :rotfl:

I don't take credit for all of them though, as a majority of the blanks were graphics I found on the net, or here on the DIS boards.

Biggest reason I made the Thank you Sign was just for that :)

Just on the off chance there are other overplanners like myself in the group. Here are the sites I've been using to monitor weather over the last month or so:

Carribean Hurricane Network: Gives some decent information on weather standings. Best part is the right frame. You can get updates from the locals on the various islands, complete with the last date an update was posted (most recent on the top). At the bottom of the right frame is more links to various weather sources. Note: No hurricanes for our week predicted so far!

Global Sea Temps: This site not only gives you the current surface temps for the globe, but shows the advisories for the various major parts of the Atlantic and the Pacific. My favorite part of this page is the Satellite Imagery section. You can change to visible or infrared of various regions. I've been looking at the Florida/Bahamas and the Puerto Rico sections. These are the closeups for our port days (Florida for CC, Puerto Rico shows you Marteen and St. Thomas). Note: Looks like the water will be in a very cool mid 80's on the trip LOL

Carribean Imagery: This site has both animated and still shots of the various weather patterns throughout the Carribean. I use mostly the Single Image w/o Lat/Lon pictures. The pictures are updated every 30 minutes or so and show you the prior 30 minutes of activity.

Last and not least Orlando: This will give you a 15 day forecast for Orlando. Obviously the further out you go the less likely it is valid, but it will give you a good idea on what to look for.

Enjoy!! DW and I leave for Orlando on Saturday morning. Wow...that is so close it isn't even funny. Need to review packing list, pack, weigh suitcases, repack, run vacation errands, review packing list, pack for final time, look up weather daily, review itinerary, revise itinerary, print itinerary, do laundry, go over packing one last time, fly...:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

My to do list just keeps growing. Got a few things for DS cleared off the list - haircut, new dress shoes and dress shirt. Man they just keep growing out of things. Had to buy new dress pants a few weeks ago. Hoping everything fits for everyone else - I'm running out of time for shopping. Only two more days of school to go and then we are in really serious countdown mode. We leave Monday afternoon. Thanks, for the weather links Khazid.

Thanks Khazid! And Wendy we are in the same situation with our DSs - haircuts tomorrow, ortho checks, Dr. checks, bought new dress pants & shoes as well. Now DH needs smaller swim trunks (he's been doing the same diet I did for the past 3 weeks), so the shopping isn't over yet!

Hi all,

We're in the same boat as the rest of you (:rotfl2: Get it? Couldn't resist)!! We are busy running errands, getting haircuts, etc. My daughter and I leave Sat for a Dance Competition and will come back only 2 days before we leave. So I really only have a few days left to get it together, despite it being 9 days before we actually leave!

Also, despite the fact that we are first time cruisers, we've been DIS'ers for quite some time. So, we of course turned to disboards when we started planning this trip and quicly discovered this whole magnet thing. We have quite a few ready to go (that was alot more work than I thought it'd be!!) but don't have time to post them to photobucket for uploading here. You'll have to see them there!!

We're so very excited about this and look forward to meeting you all!!

BTW -- we still feel like we have too much stuff and can't imagine how we're getting this all there!!

I am SO GLAD we live in Orlando! We can bring whatever we want ( not necessarily need) to the port!

I don't know what we will do next year when we go on the Disney Northern Capitals cruise.....we will need to fly, so that means, REALLY cutting back on what we bring...I guess wear the same thing every day......and bring jackets......

Well my fast met friends, the time has arrived. DW and I leave for the airport in less than 24 hours to fly to Orlando!!!:dance3:

I will be lurking the boards here for the next 12 hours or so, but thought I would post my favorite line for those I will see when on vacation:

See ya real soon!!:yay:

WHEEE!!!!!! :cool1: Have a safe trip Khazid.

We've got 3 days 6 hours and 25 minutes to go..... I've got lots to do today....... I've started the "if you want to take that on holidays, don't wear it now chant" I'm not packing at the last minute this time. Aiming to be packed by Sunday night.
