July 28, 2007 - "Rome-ancing the Mouse Cruisers" -11 days! Part 3

Harole Ann I wasn't planning on taking it as DH was taking his. But now, since I'm going on w/o the family to do the repo, I think I probably am going to have too unless DH takes just mine and the small printer. A Canon i90. Let's just hope I don't have any trouble with it. I'm a magnet for trouble with anything electronic. And now that the rooms are wireless - :woohoo: - I almost have too.

Wont it be sad if we end up talking to each other on the cruise through the disboard and our laptops?

Someone should do a laptop count.

Me - 1, maybe 2.

Now that I'm thinking about it - does anyone have any DH's, older sons, or males that don't mind the picture taking? Just curious.

I'm 0 -2 here

They put up with it because they know what I will do with it. But honestly, if I asked them if they wanted to take a picture - nope 0 for 3.

Just yeserday DH and I were saying well we ought to be thinking about sorting out the washbag for the trip and getting the cases down. Now I read not only have we go that to do but I've also got
1. Fish Extenders
2. Stuff to put in Fish Extenders
3. Stuff for gift bags
4. Lime Green ribbon
5. Door magnets
6. T-shirts for printing
7. Green glo-sticks for necklaces
8. NO I'M NOT DOING TOILET PAPER

Thinking of the ribbon - if you were intending on putting this onto your luggage, or some sort of backpack, etc. They make a Lime Green duct tape. I bought some for my niece. It's more of a neon green, but it would work if anyone was interested.

I just checked the Disney Web site again and now there are Cat 5, 9, 10,11 and 12 are available. EArlier only 9,10 and 11 were available.

I'm just so anxious to know what room we are in.

Patience in NOT my gift.

Sandra

Sandra - have you tried calling them? I mean if there are rooms still available, how hard is it to assign you a room? I would be on the phone demanding a room. And if they said they didn't have one, ask why you can book it online then.

Ok so now I've posted this pic and info would someone please move it to the correct place in post 12 as I don't have a clue how to do it !!

I love your shirts. You think like me. I usually create a shirt for every trip we take and we wear them on day one. Then on the other days we all wear matching shirts. Makes it easy to find the kids, or vice versa.

I thought folks on this forum might appreciate this weekend project.

tpcar1.jpg

I shot this on Sunday. No, don't worry, I didn't actually do this. I just watched and cheered them on.

As to how I ended up in that situation, I'm afraid it is not for Internet publication. You can ask me on the cruise if you're interested. :rolleyes1

So I see you too have stories to not tell the kids.

Do you think I could cheat with the fish extender and use a wardrobe shoe hanger/tidy and just glam it up a bit ???

Why not? that would be great.

I posted that as people have mentioned my 'light' is on for the Dis when I have gone to bed, I think its the broadband and cookies as I do not log out, but just close the Internet down.

The time does change if I have been off a while.

I think you have said this before, but Cable Modem or DSL? because with a cable modem, you are never really 'off' the internet. So you could have connected to the dis, but it hasn't released the connection yet at the server level. Eventually it times out. Also, with a cable modem, your IP is static, and even if you turn off your computer, if I knew what your IP was, I could send things to your printer. No joke - did this once to my aunt to teach her to protect herself. of course i made DH do the tech work - I work in QA, not development. I find the problems, he fixes them.

Ok so forget the toilet paper. I can get this 1500 feet of Lime Green Ribbon on Ebay for £3.35 inc postage. We could wrap it everywhere :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
1185269323_1.jpg

We could decorate our verandah's.

Hmmm...75 more posts to go.

On another note, I started calling my credit card companies to prepare them for an onslaught of overseas charges. BofA has me down in the computer. Boy they wanted details. Dates, time, and exact spelling of cities and countries.

Now on to the next card

REMINDER: EVERYONE - CALL YOUR CC COMPANY AND REMIND THEM!

Thanks so much for the reminder.

Another tip for this cruise

It looks like many of us will be doing :laundy: on this cruise and after. Don't forget to pack a small lightweight collapsible (SP?) laundry hamper. Around here you can buy them from the $0.99 store and they really do come in handy. My first ever DCL cruise, I did laundry and had to make several trips to take back my folded clothes. Then I saw someone carrying one. What also works is a laundry duffel that doubles as a backpack. DCL used to sell one a long time ago but DH didn't like carrying it as it only had 1 strap. This will work but some can get heavy. That's why I said just get the cheap ones that wegh ounces or is it grams for you on the other side?

Just a thought! :)

Great thought - I bought a bag, but after seeing that the laundry room is about as far away as it can be, a basket would be nice. A cart would be better. ;)

On Caribbean cruises I have brought my own, pre measured in baggies with a dryer sheet included. But I don't think I want to take up luggage space or weight with a white powder that could delay my luggage. So I'll just buy it while I'm there.

I don't sleep well so I bring a book and do laundry at 3 am. It's never crowded and I can do several loads at the same time. Hopefully without kids I won't have too much to do. It's just that I tend to like to wear the same things most of the time.

Sandra

I was thinking of bringing liquid if I brought any. But I assume the ship has hard water and would need way more than I am used to using on my soft-water front loaders.

Which floor? We could keep each other company doing laundry.

DW just checked our reservation online and we have a stateroom # instead of just Cat 6 GTY. We are in 5648. :cool1:
It's on deck 5 in the stern where the curve starts on the starboard side. Looks like possibly a little bigger balcony as a result. Anybody ever stayed there?

HI Everyone!!!
I got my cabin number, I am 7546- its right in front of the elevator- do you think it will be noisy??? Jimmy is concerned about the location- should I call DCL to see if I can change it?? I did notice the i bedroom suites and the Roy and Walt suites are also in front of /next to the elevator???????:confused3 :confused3

We just got our cabin assignment too!!!
We're in 6504 way up front, starboard, category 11 room. Its called an inside stateroom but is on the outside. Hope the motion doesn't get us. Sounds like its a quiet room, has a funny porthole looking thing on it. Not sure what that is. Sounds like its very accessible to Oceaneer (not that we have kids) and shows. I need to find out what cabin my sister got.

We have our room #. No upgrade:sad2: :sad2: :sad1: :sad1:

We are in 2017, Cat. 12 The DCL Inventory Control Fairy doesn't like us very much.

But we are still going to the Med:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

And we have a 7 night RCCI West Caribbean next February with the savings. So I guess we can live with out the window.

We were originally booked into 2010 right across the hall.

Sandra

Congratulations to everyone that got their rooms finally. I know it was very stressful, but at least now you know.

I have mixed feelings about bringing Harry Potter along on this trip. It probably weighs 50pounds already. So there goes my luggage weight limit let alone bringing along the lanyards. I thought it would be a good idea to start on the book in the airport for our long waits between flights and then thought one of two things would happen. I would miss the cruise because I can't put the book down or after the cruise, I would have to start over because I can't remember where I left off. I think maybe I should not tempt fate and just bring Rick Steve's Italian phrases.

I've never been on 2, but here's what I've read/heard so far:
  • There can be noise - specifically low bass noise coming in from the clubs above. Comments on the noise is very mixed - some people are annoyed by it. Others don't notice it. Personally, I suspect I'll find any such noise muted and relaxing, so it's more likely to help me sleep than keep me awake. Be aware that that kind of low frequency noise is the kind that noice cancelling headsets can do a great job with.
  • Deck 2 is great for getting off the ship - especially on this trip where it sounds like all the ports will be accessed via deck 1.
  • Deck 2 is great for elevators. Since you're near the end, you rarely have to worry about the elevator already being full when it finally arrives.
So, I figure in terms of normal movement, I'll likely use stairs for deck 3/4/5 (very easy access). Use elevator up to 9. Walk down in either case.

Sounds do-able!

I already hear that all the time from the little one. It's hysterical. But there are just some things we did as kids that we have to say 'when I was stupid...' before we tell the story. Or - 'looking back on it now, I'm surprised I didn't die'

Funny - but it's all of dad's stories that are like that. Because mom was a perfect

We won't be able to tell Dad stories until our kids have grandkids :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

91 rolls of TP ........

You take one down
Fling it around ...

fling? sounds messy:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

90 rolls.

yeah!!

Wont it be sad if we end up talking to each other on the cruise through the disboard and our laptops?

Someone should do a laptop count.

Me - 1, maybe 2.

We are going cold turkey - no laptops and a "Europe only" cell phone - my dd and her boyfriend (finger down the throat smiley) celebrate their 1 year anniversary while we are gone - however will they live??

I did suggest a countdown tag and there hasnt been one tonight, maybe becuase we couldnt agree last night.

Andrew - its probably because you "assigned" the 1st person to quote you the assignment of coming up with a quote. :rotfl2: That would be the straw that broke the perverbial camel's back. Too much to do and not enough time to do it! :rotfl2:

Is that me in 8030??????????????????:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Roy wont be happy!

Well, has he been able to be happy for a second after his divorce? More like - look at all the shares that woman walked away with! Very sorry to :listen: about it though.

Funny - but it's all of dad's stories that are like that. Because mom was a perfect

Hey - my long lost twin! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Congratulations, Mary Ann!!! You pirate: you

DITTO! Mary Ann!

Yo mean like DD and I do? She's upstairs and IM's me downstairs to make her a sandwich cuz she's hungry. Bad - but what's worse is that we have an intercom system in the house. :sad2:

We are bringing a laptop and cell phone. I've never left the kids for this long before and I'm very nervous and guilty about it.

Sandra

95 rolls....

Good analysis Dan. Isn't the crew on deck 2?

Maryann

Well, my memory is vague on this, however looking at the deck layouts, I suspect they are mostly on deck 1. There are a few places where some crew cabins could fit, but my guess is that they are down below.

What we usually do is buy one HC and then the audio. We make it a family event to sit in the living room and listen to the audio play. Like they used to do before TV. Then, the kids go to bed at 8, and listen to one cd. That makes bedtime really 9. And it takes them a month or more to 'read' a book. They love this and listen to books over and over again. Currently it's Pullmans Dark Materials.

The only problem is that I like to read along in the book while we listen. And I can read faster than I listen, so I get ahead of myself. When listening to the last HP book, Jon took the dogs for a quick walk, I stayed behind reading. When he came back, I was sitting on the stairs crying. I kept re-reading the same section, thinking i read it wrong. I closed the book as soon as I saw him, and ran upstairs with it. Yelled 'You'll have to listen for yourself' and slammed the bedroom door. My youngest still doesn't understand that part of the book.

I went out with some friends the evening after reading it, and I was quite a sight (or so I'm told). Without saying a word about specifics, I spent the whole evening cursing JK Rowling and yelling at the universe.

I'm sitting here at work - originally to ketchup while waiting for 580 traffic to go away - but I was too far behind for that. So now it's 7:30, and I am so happy that i am in this office all alone. For after reading such a cute premonition I am laughing very much out loud.

How to recognize Dan, he'll be the one saying "Buzz off or I'll tell you how it ends."

Actually, that was more joke than reality - that's not my style. I'm about the least threatening person around (even in jest). However, if you start hearing some really bizarre fake endings, it's quite possible if you tried really hard, you'd be able to trace them back to me:rolleyes1

Wont it be sad if we end up talking to each other on the cruise through the disboard and our laptops?

Someone should do a laptop count.

Me - 1, maybe 2.

Two in our group. I have some trepidation about it - cruises used to be my only real escape from work/computers. Believe it or not, it's with some relief that I hear that the Internet on the ship is terribly slow.

So I see you too have stories to not tell the kids.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. I'm generally of the opinion that in the ultra-protective/restrictive zero-tolerance society we've created for kids these days (at least here in the U.S.), that kids don't get into nearly enough trouble. So without compromising on reasonable safety, and ethics/values, I'm far more likely to encourage and instigate than to remain silent :cool2:

Its a cable Modem

It was nice to sit next to Roy on the 2005 repo.

Well, I see the boards are finally slowing down. The household is finally quiet and I may be able to go to sleep before 2 am! :thumbsup2 We shall see.

Just called my WAMU bank to notify them of out of country possible usage and they told me that addition to a $2.00 ATM withdrawal fee, if I use the debit card as a purchase then I'm charged a 1% amount of purchase fee. :scared1:

Then I look on the back and I don't see a plus system. My BofA has it but not WAMU. Now I have to go and check if my little old busines/personal account has a debit card for me and if they are on the plus system.

Andrew, Helen or any other International friend. Did I read right in that only the Plus system works over there? Please tell me that the Star system is also accepted?

If not, then I must get this other bank activated again. I refused to use it after one of the tellers played what she thought was a cute joke on me. Needless to say, I got :furious: and rattled some cages. Thank God I didn't cancel my account outright as I just found out that they will reimburse any charges or transaction fee made outside this particular bank. So if this holds true - all my transactions and withdrawal fees will be reimbursed. :scratchin Sounds like a no-brainer and I must tuck tail and swallow egg and pad my account again! Oh Well, another case of NEVER SAY NEVER again.

It was nice to sit next to Roy on the 2005 repo.

He was a doll on that trip. My tablemate ran into him a couple of times and one time they "chatted" for over 1/2 hr. Boy was she thrilled! :yay: But his bodyguard or assistant wasn't. Although he was very nice to stay talking with her that long. I was always too embarrassed to harass the man.

I hope no one took offense to the comment I made. I never meant to have it come off sarcastic. I just like to smart off sometimes w/o realizing what I say. Especially so late in the night - when I should be sleeping.
