Night all.
Funny you should say that, as it was broken the day the Magic was last in Civitavecchia, maybe the Dissers on that cruise wanted to protect the Pope!
God and you got me to spell Civitavecchia!
When's Julie, (bellelinus) - Pirate Tea bags, back??? She must be on her way back to NY by now!
I missed the abuse over the last two weeks!
Multiple choice or fill in the blanks?

memarmay said:Booked them on my own and then let our travel agent take care of everything else. We used PrimeTime shuttle to get to LAX...they picked us up at 1:30 and that was plenty of time to check in at the airport. The earlier you arrive, the shorter the line for check in and security. British Airways was a nightmare for us. Purchased full price tickets in Jan for the May 23 flight. First of all, once you deplane at Heathrow, you must go thru security AGAIN. Hard to make an explosive out of salad, main dish and cheescake. Then, we got bumped from our connecting flight. Waited 2 additional hours for the next flight. We were compensated VERY nicely for our inconvenience. After going thru security at Heathrow for the 5th time (no lie) we got on the plane. By the time we got to BCN, they had lost all 8 pieces of our luggage, we reported that to some fella that barely spoke English, missed our driver for the pick up to the hotel, hailed a taxi (that was the easiest part) and finally arrived at our hotel. Now, the luggage. After 24 hrs, we still had none, my daughter and I went to Diagonal Mar and bought some clothes for the 4 of us. Got back to the hotel and 2 out of 8 had showed up. I did let DCL know of the happenings and if you are staying at a Disney booked hotel, they will have DCL people there all day to assist you in whatever you need....even get your KTTW card before you board making that even easier. DCL said that they would take care of everything and were very earnest about it! 5 bags arrived Sat AM and then at around 9 PM (1/2 hr from leaving the port) the last bag arrived. whew. then came the trip home. Tried to book the seats from the ship and they wouldn't let me on the website to do so. I had asked for an upgrade..offered to pay for it...but even tho we had a child on the trip (6y/o) I could not get on with them. So tried at BCN. Got seats there...we were 2 and 2. no problem. then at that forsaken Heathrow, they gave us seats four separate and all over the back of the plane. Again, I offered to pay for an upgrade and they said none available. Even saw the lovely agent, Jane, from Scotland there....she told them to do everything in their power to 'make it up' to us. phoey! Finally got 3 seats together in the very last row of the plane and one (of course the 6 y/o) 6 rows in front of us!!! As we were boarding, the couple in front of us was informed that they had been chosen to be upgraded!!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT just fried me. Long story short, my daughter was very vocal about her unhappiness with BA and the flight att'dt did everything in his power to help. the lady that was next to DD gave up her seat for Lauren and was promptly taken to FIRST CLASS!!!!!. Pissed is now what I was!!!!!!!!!! At least our luggage made it home. That poor flight attdt bent over backwards for us all the way home. He was a real gem. At least individually, they do have some gems. Hope that doesn't scare you off, but if you can afford to travel business class, DO IT! It's a long 11 hrs in a cramped, seat back pushed back, tray table down seat. If you are on a BA flight from LDN to BCN, I wouldn't worry about being bumped. We were on Iberia and they cancelled...actually 'swallowed up' that flight. BA and Iberia are partners. The whole reason our luggage was lost was because of being bumped. the rest was all theirs. I still have to write to BA about our travails.
As far as regs about shoulders and knees, don't dwell on it. They aren't that strict. Capris for the gals and if you just carry a scarf or a lightweight top, you'll be fine. The only place I would definitely cover up is the Vatican. It is the holy of holys and just so sacred. (and I'm not even Catholic) I hope you do go there, it is just amazing. What a...wow....I was there when I was 16 and I still remember it!!!! Some of the stops you make on excursions there is a matron at the pottie stops. You are expected to pay to pee. Have some of the Euro 'change'...1,2,5,and 10 cent coins to use. Travel light on the excursions...it is just so much easier and fun. I had a small cloth bag that I wore around my neck..big enuf for the passport (you won't need it once on the ship), atm and credit card, KTTW and drivers lic, money, and lipstick. Use the atm to get cash, better exchange rate and use the cc for bigger purchases..best exchange rate. Capital One is the best for traveling...that's what everyone said on the trip. You will have 1 formal night right off the bat and then 2 semi-formal nites. Don't worry about being real dressy. The clothes ran the gamut...designer to Target. Lots of photo opps. They even have the DCL photogs on the excursions..Rome, florence, pisa, Marseilles, Palermo, Sardinia...Most of the popular excursions. Also, if you see something in the 2 gift shops and you think you want it...buy it. You can take it back later if you decide you don't want it. at least you have a choice. Sweatshirts and shirts run out of large very quickly and they will tell you that they don't have any more. Baloney. If you do go to Promenade lounge, Do say hello to Andreea for Mari and Raleigh. She is a doll and a dear lady. So sweet...we really miss her! Also, our servers were Dennis and Ati....Great! If you see them tell them that Lauren (6y/o granddaughter) misses them terribly!
Outside of my complaining about BA, if you want to copy the hints and put them on this thread, that is fine with me. And if you want to call me, my home no is ### ### ####.
Good luck and I know you will have a FANTASTIC time. Disney just does it right!!! my entire family is ready to leave at a moment's notice....despite BA and all the glitches!
Take care. Mari
The tag fairy's first visit- Thanks! I love it!
Andrew- it's Jimmy.... Did you notice my receding hairline? I had a full head of hair before I married Sallie.... I don't think you have anything to worry about- you will only be with her for 11 straight days, but ,just as precaution- I can give you the names of some products that will help stop hair loss if you notice anything by the third day. Unfortunately- they didn't work for me.
OK- What's crazier than someone posting pictures of black, lime green and pink TP????????
Someone saying they are going to roll mini rolls of Tp for their trip!!!!!

hEY SAL..............TOTALLY KIDDING....Yes, but here in the U.S. we have toilets, not loos, so we need toilet paper, not loo paper. I think just as SallieP posted the detailed specifications of toilet paperOne key factor that was missed in this discussion is "throw strength". That's a measure of the maximum force you can use when throwing the roll part so that it will unroll correctly instead of tearing when using the roll to TP a house, tree or car.
I think the throw strength is extremely important..... including lift and thrust..... what if one of our fellow DISers are in a stall a few feet away and notice there is no TP?? WE need an audible signal, so that if there is a fellow DISer in the "loo", they will hear it and fling one of those little neat pocketbook rolls over the top to them.....
YES......definitely add 'distance TP throwing' practice to the list- why didn't I think of that???![]()
