From another thread

As we getting into micro-managing planning, mode, let's not forget to feed our hearts and minds as well -- the ultimate point of this trip is to enjoy it and to appreciate it. I have been adding quotes (where my quotes are coming from) and bits of information into my travel journal as well as reservation numbers and schedules and plans.

On that note, tonight I was re-visiting some information about Villefranche and Eze, and felt like sharing with all of you. The artist Jean Cocteau found Villefranche as an adult in the 1920's, and settled there, eventually painting the Chapelle de St.-Pierre as well as many of his masterpieces such as "Orpheus" and "Les Enfants Terribles," and welcoming friends such as Isadora Duncan, Picasso, and Stravinsky. Cocteau said, "When I look at Villefranche, I see my youth. May it never change."

On a different note, 25 years ago this summer the Rolling Stones settled in Villefranche as tax exiles and created their own masterpiece, "Exile on Main Street."

In nearby Eze, the philosopher Frederick Nietzsche spent a holiday and came away changed. "I slept well, I laughed a lot, and I found a marvelous vigor and patience," he said later. He found the inspiration for the third section of "Thus Spake Zarathustra" there, creating Zarathustra's mantra for his own journey while climbing the steep incline from Eze Sur-le-Mer to Eze Village, "You are treading your path of greatness. No one shall steal after you here."

Currently, Bono from U2 has a house in Eze . . . I hear they are working on a new album, but in Morocco rather than Eze, unfortunately.

Thanks for the interesting info julie- I love reading things I wouldnt normally know... which means you can write almost anything and i:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 t will be new to me! Keep em comin!!!!

Hi everyone....I have missed you all!!

Daniel DS17 graduated from High School and the next day I took my mom to the doctor and he told us she can not be alone anymore. I have had her with me for these two weeks...and it has been busy. I am tired.

HI Lisa, we missed you. Im so sorry to hear about your mom, I am so grateful you still have her though, and she still had all her capacities. I will say a prayer for all of you! Carley cant wait to meet the girls!!!

I think we can keep saying that all day, as its a landmark to the cruise.

Now whoose first to get their tickets from DCL?
When do you think the ticket swill arrive? Does the travel agent get them, or are they sent directly to us??

Love the quotes.. keep em comin!!!! I would love to post a few of my favorites if I ever find some more time in the day!

Yes, I was quite happy when NYC went this way years ago, weren't you?

Whats so funny, is that even when Im sitting on the beach, with the breeze, in full open air, I can still smell cigarette smoke quite a few feet away. I get so sick when I smell it now, since we are mostly smoke free here- I hope I will be able to tolerate n Europe where I understand its not

OK Sallie I know these hats are no way near as cooooooooool :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: as yours but these are the ones I'm going to get the boys for our cruise.

They are Disboard green and very bright so I should be able to spot them when we're out and about
No problem Izzy, I will make some propellers that I will be able to hot glue on the top of everyones hats.Im just about finished with Jimmys and Andrews!!!!!

Hi everyone....I have missed you all!!

Daniel DS17 graduated from High School and the next day I took my mom to the doctor and he told us she can not be alone anymore. I have had her with me for these two weeks...and it has been busy. I am tired.

I have arranged for her to stay with one of my brothers in Delaware for the next several weeks while we are on vacation.
Next week, my brother from South Carolina and my Delaware brother and my mom and me are going to spend the 4th of July together and try and come up with a plan going forward.

She does not want assisted living so I guess she will live with me or spend some time with each of us during the year. She is fighting this all the way (she is 85 and mostly healthy). Her body can not hold onto sodium anymore, so the risk of fainting is high. She has lost 14 pounds in 6 months (now she weighs 95 pounds). She has broken her back 9 times in 5 years. All of this makes her doctor say she can not be alone...but her mind is very strong (better than mine)....

Anyway, I am getting excited about the trip...we got our room assignment ...Desk 6 aft. Has everyone who went to CAT 12 gotten a room? Is our cruise sold out?

Did the group get Palo for the group dining.

I am going to do the nametags this weekend.

More later!!

Lisa,
You are in my prayers. My mom, 89, lives with us and I think I'm going to have to get someone in for her when I go back to school in Sept. (if we can wait that long). The dr. says she doesn't have alzheimers it is just age related dementia. Other than that, she's healthier than I am. She is mobile and luckily doesn't cook anymore. It is really hard. Our kids and my cousin will take care of her for the two weeks we'll be gone. We've never been away 2 weeks before and it is a lot to ask, but they all said not to worry and they'll take care of everything. If they're still speaking to us when we get back.......:scared:

Maryann

Still got three weeks left!

3 weeks is like 3 hours on today's time clock... I really think what was 3 weeks 20 years ago, is now really half that in real time....

Time must be going faster. I remember when I used to book a vacation a year in advance, I would think its soooooo far off... it will never get here... and it seemed like it never did-
now, I think, my God, its only a year away, I better get moving !

and Andrew , I will say this again.... STOP THE COUNTDOWN ITS MAKING Me HYPERVENTILATE!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was just about to sign off , who got it?

Congrats on the pirate: , Anna!

Hi just to say thankyou for your kind wishes.

We r lucky in a way that it happened now and that hopefully things can get back to norm in 3 weeks.

Dave actually thinks its him and hes jinxed. I'll explain why.

He had a business meeting in ireland - when he got back home it was the day they broke the goodfriday ceasefire.

He had a meeting in London last yeat 6th July -7th was the transport bombs

Last year we were coming home from WDW on the Thursday 10th Aug when we got to Sanford we were told the country was on red alert as it was the actual day of the liquid scare - we were at Sanford 9 hours before flying.

He also went Diving in Thailand a month before the tusarmi (sp) ALTHOUGH THAT WAS A NATURAL AND DOSEN'T REALLY COUNT ;)

I'd rather say he's quite LUCKY! He just missed all the troubles (except for the airport liquid scare - it happened 2 days before we flew as well). Tell him I'm glad he's on our cruise. I rather trouble follow us that be with us!
Uk is smoke free from today:pixiedust:

:pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust::pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust::pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust:

YIPPEE! I can smell it a mile away.

:rotfl: :rotfl: that would be soooooooooo funny Sallie

Is anyone else watching 'The concert for Diana' it's on in 140 countries apparently ?

Good luck with registering, Izzy. We did ours right away and couldn't put in BCN for the airport we were arriving! They should have made better accomodations for those not from the US. Shame on DCL!

Maryann

Well I spoke to DCL about my inability to check-in and they can't fix my problem. They've input my flight details but I can't put my disembarcation details in because it's not allowing me to put a non-US hotel in and they can't fix it.

They said I should try again next week

DH Paul just said he couldn't wear a cap like that ......what a party pooper

Yes at the moment

Also for you Doctor Who fans:

News Monday on Martha, she will be in 4 Doctor who's next year and three Torchwood.

I understand, New Assistant next year series is the actress Carey Mulligan who played Sally Sparrow in Blink 3.10

Jack is back in Torchwood.

Kylie will be in the Guest star, in the Christmas episode announcements tomorrow!!

Well thats what I understand!

Once you've filled out ALL 3 forms you then have to print out and sign the contract. The contract is a PDF that only becomes available to you once you filled out and submitted all the other forms. All passengers must sign the contract and this has to be handed in at the Barcelona port.

I can't print my contract because I can't fill out the forms because I don't "fit" what DCL assumes everybody is doing. More short sightedness from DCL assuming all cruisers come from the U.S :sad2: :sad2:
Okay, I didn't see that, thanks!

London has a lot on now:-

  • Todays concert
  • Wimbledon second week.
  • Tour De France next weekend.
  • Live Earth next Saturday.

Wembley looks so good now!!!!
