Take the RER - C and buy an audioguide there if you would like, but I don't think you need a formal guide at all. Be sure to allow plenty of time there -- it is ENORMOUS and just wandering the gardens alone can take hours.
Thank you, I'll look into that. Have you done the audio tour before? I know that some audiotours are excellent, but not all. What has been your experience?

if they cancel the semi-formal nights, i will still wear my dresses. maybe cruise casual to me is a nice semi-formal dress.:rolleyes1
I'm sure you won't be the only one!!

Are you serious Julie? People are not crusing because of the thread? It must be bad. What is going on? Just curious. I have never seen that in all the years that I have followed my threads and others. It's sad. It's so easy to take things the wrong way without seeing/hearing expressions in person sometimes - these side symbols help out a lot.

That is amazing! DH and I were just talking last night about how irate people seem to get on the boards. There are a few threads about the age limits for clubs, pools, Palo and spa - people let it ruin their vacation. They same mean things about each other - it is just ridiculous!!

OPEN JAW does cause problems
What is "open jaw"

HI Anna and everyone- We definitely want to go to the beach in Sardinia- did you book a tour or are you going to take a cab?? I want to take a cab, but I am concerned with getting back on time- and I dont know which beach to go to- any suggestions???:confused3 :confused3
We want to go on our own too - I feel like we will need the "down day". Anyone know if we can "borrow" the towels from the boat and take them with us?

Have to say its a case of history repeating itself, the 2005 repo had a couple of posters who went far to far, after warnings from the moderators, the thread was closed down and some Dissers 'left' and went elsewhere.
I popped into another group somewhere, actually don't remember where and people seemed to brag that they were kicked off of DIS - very interesting!

WOW I'm completely gob smacked that people take things so far that they actually cancel a cruise. Also I'm shocked that folks actually go out of their way to be nasty to someone they've not even met. The thought of that really offends me and is way beyond my comprehension. I AM SO GLAD THAT NONE OF THAT GOES ON HERE. Being on this thread and 'meeting' all you people has actually made looking forward to this cruise really, really enjoyable.

THANK YOU TO ALL ON THIS THREAD
Agree - great group.

OK so this my 500 post on this thread :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
Congratulations!!

Sorry I started something and then left -- the dogs wanted to spend some time in the park this morning, as it is really lovely here today.

Yes, I am so happy that I ended up on this cruise and this thread with all of you -- the Aug. 8 thread never really got itself together or felt like a group, and this one has been delightful. I have to go against my basic nature to get involved with a bunch of strangers like this (!) but I'm really glad in this case that I did.
Ditto - I have never been involved in something like this - I am really enjoying it, though. DH doesn't even look at me cross eyed anymore when I mention stuff about the boards - oh, but he hasn't seen the tshirts yet :rotfl: :cool1: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :cool1: :rotfl2:

Regarding Olbia -- yes, we will go to a beach on our own, and at this point I am flexible as to where or how. I had done research and found Cala Sabina, which looks lovely and is accessible via train from the station near the port in Olbia. I read from some recent cruisers that some took a bus from the port directly to a beach with no problem, so I might ask about that once there. Finally, I am open to asking a taxi driver to take us to a beach and negotiate a price and pickup time, but if that doesn't seem reliable I could ask them to take us to Cala Sabina, knowing we could take the train back if they didn't show.
Sounds good - let's discuss on the boat.

Has anyone heard if MaryJo has managed to sort out her passport problem?

Hope she is ok

:grouphug:
Haven't heard - hope she updates us quickly and hope it's good news!!

Off topic to Salliep or anyone else with a 12ish year old daughter: what kind of music does she like? I need to buy a bday present for a friend's daughter and her mom said to buy music CD's -- what kind of music do 12 yr old girls like????

Thanks!

Susy

You know, asking what a 12 year old girl likes is about as useful as asking what moms of 12 year old girls like -- there's a huge variation in what anyone cares for in terms of music! However, for what it's worth, I have a 12 year old who will be 13 in October, and she still likes the pop stuff like High School Musical and Cheetah Girls, but also likes the Fratellis (Costello Music), KT Tunstall, Fall Out Boy, etc.

How did I get so low on the post count list again? :confused3

Okay, back to the previously scheduled fluffing so I can catch up!

Thanks to those of you who pushed it thru at Cafepress, I tried again and it seems that my order has gone thru. Fingers crossed.

I have my fish extender gifts but no fish extender yet - will see if I have time this week.

I made the address labels for the luggage tags for that the last day - that was a great tip that I got from the DIS and really saves you time. In case any of you aren't planning on it, you print up peel off address labels with your address, I made a last line that says number _____ of _____, then you stick them on the DCL tags that are required for disembarkation day. Otherwise you have to write out your address over and over. I just filled in bag 1 of 12, bag 2 of 12, etc.

I also printed thank you cards (I did this the last time also) with a picture of our family on the front and a nice thank you message inside. We used these for tips, we would hand write a message and put the tip in the card.

I have made no door signs, despite my very elaborate signs the last time, there just isn't time.

Good luck to all of you in your organizing and getting ready!

Great ideas Suzy- I will be printing labels and thank yous... I hope they have a printer on the beach... since I think the tag fairy will be doing my packing and such as Im on-my way to the beach as soon as I finish this last post! I will never get done!!!! But its sooooo beautiful outside - I want to play!!!!!!!!:dance3:

Would love to come by but we will most likely be at the Mickey Pool.

We always dress the kids in their bathing suits and go straight to the pool. We are all done with our spa and palos and such so we are looking forward to relaxing by the pool. We have pretty busy days planned for our four days in Barcelona pre-cruise, so I think we will be ready to chill.

I thought the same thing too about the pool- I am going to ask Carley to re-post and ask everyone to bring their swim suits so they can run in after meeting each other- then have another time for a quick meet at the pool somewhere.

Sounds you are very organized, I have purchased the gift bags today reconfirmed hotels, private tours airport transfer, UK Airport parking etc.

show off!!!! :upsidedow :upsidedow :upsidedow

Good news checked on-line Pisa have corrected my tickets now, 6 walking and one at the heliport flying up. ( it says ab-sail down?-must be Italian for a lift or something?)

Im working on a response to this... check back later!!!
Here's a new one...

Does anybody else play texas hold em?

We are all poker lovers - was thinking about planning a poker game one night. Will bring chip set if I can find enough people to get a game together.

Any one else play poker?

Susy
How funny you should mention texas hold up- my husband was teaching me how to play just this past weekend- we are going to a friend house tomorrow to play!!! Count us in if my propellor hat is allowed !:rotfl2:

Hi and Welcome,

I spent 10 years living in Crewe so not too far away?

The formal night is the first sea night, the other nights are cruise casual apart form Villefrance when its semi formal.

My Dh is taking a suit to use for formal / semi formal. I tried but sadly there was no way he would wear a tux. (I'll have to look out for James bond when were are@ the Monte Carlo casino.

no tux for Jimmy- he draws the line there:mad:

Ok I'd better be going to get ready.

Tonight Im going to an Elizabethan Banquet at a castle.

Its an end of year party for the teachers

Thank You To All On This Thread

I am just as shocked as the others to hear of that behavior on a DIS meet thread. That sounds awful!

My first reaction was...maybe we should cancel as we are booked for that cruise. Wouldn't want to be sailing with a less than nice group.

My second (horrible selfish) reaction was, I wonder if anyone who cancelled had a suite???

We have always had concierge but could only get category 4's for aug 2008 repo and are really hoping to upgrade.

Horrible! Terrible! Selfish! :guilty:

Honestly, I would never think of cancelling a cruise because of people you might see . . . they are big ships and you can have as much or as little contact with others as you'd like. I can see deciding not to participate in the thread or planned activities, but I really don't see the point of not going altogether -- although some have.

HI Zak's mum here!

I have just realised that you have an 8 year old daughter (Elizabeth), we have a 9 year old daughter (Emily) and i thought they might like to get to know each other.

Sounds good - let's discuss on the boat.

No, I don't do audiotours -- I bring or buy a guidebook and prepare for what I will see in advance -- with my girls, I want us to be able to talk about what we are seeing rather than walk along all listening to some disembodied voice. I mentioned it though because many get a lot out of the audiotours. Chacun son goût!

I have to hide to a certain extent how much I am on the Dis to my girls, because they think it is weird to "talk to strangers" -- and of course since they learned that from me, I feel a little guilty, too!

Yes, let's talk on the boat about Sardinia. We will definitely get to a beach!

Ok bright red face here...I was so excited about getting the pirate: I didn't know what I was saying !!!

Yes, there's nothing like "having" a pirate on a beautiful Saturday . . . especially if you haven't had one in a while!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If there is anyone else in the UK who wants to get group t-shirt printed I am using a fantastic place that I've used before. They are very reliable and very, very quick. I ordered mine just yesterday and I should have them by Wednesday. I've emailed them the 2 images so it should be really, really easy for anyone else to order their shirts. They print the images on just about any style of shirt and they do kids and ladies styles as well.

If anyone wants the contact details for this company just PM me.

Allison:cheer2:[/QUOTE]

Hi Allison -

Elizabeth is actually my niece and she's a very mature 8, so they should get along well! She had very very long blonde hair, like Alice in Wonderland, but just cut off 12 inches to donate to locks of love. She looks so grownup with her short hair! Looking forward to all the kids meeting and becoming friends.

Elizabeth is very excited about the Herculaneum - they had been studying about it at school.

Sallie, don't forget to chime in on this one, too -- it's highly likely that my recommendations aren't one size fits all!

Is there a list of there somewhere? Was I supposed to post my list? Is it one name per group or each person's own name?

Here are our names just in case:

Susy

Hunter (DS, 8)
Dash (DS, 5)
Serena (DD, 2 1/2)
Catherine (my sister)
Steve (her husband)
