This actually is a ligit story written by my sister's friend about her
daughter...Too important not to pass along! Maureen

This story was verified at:
http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/sanitizer.asp

Yesterday, my youngest daughter, Halle, who is 4, was rushed to the
emergency room by her father for being severely lethargic and incoherent. He
was called to her school by the school secretary for being "very VERY sick."

He told me that when he arrived, Halle was barely sitting in the chair.
She couldn't hold her own head up and when he looked into her eyes, she
couldn't focus them.
He immediately scooped her up and rushed her to the ER, and then called
me.
When we got there, they ran blood test after blood test and did x-rays,
every test imaginable. Her white blood cell count was normal, nothing was
out of the ordinary. The ER doctor told us that he had done everything that
he could do so he was sending her to Saint Francis for further tests.
Right when we were leaving in the ambulance, her teacher came to the ER
and, after questioning Halle's classmates, we found out that she had licked
hand sanitizer off her hand.
Hand sanitizer, of all things.
But it makes sense. These days they have all kinds of different scents
and when you have a curious child, they are going to put all kinds of things
into their mouths.
When we arrived at Saint Francis, we told the ER doctor there to check
her blood alcohol level, and yes we did get weird looks, but they did it.
The results showed her blood alcohol level was 85% -- six hours after we
first took her. There's no telling what it would have been if we would have
requested it at the first ER.
Since then, her school and a few surrounding schools have taken this out
of the classrooms of all the lower grade classes, but what's to stop middle
and high schoolers from ingesting the stuff?
After doing research on the internet, we have found out that it only
takes 3 squirts of the stuff to be fatal in a toddler. For her blood alcohol
level to be so high was to compare someone her size to drinking something
120 proof. So please PLEASE don't disregard this because I don't ever want
anyone else to go through what my family and I have gone through.
Please send this to everyone you know who has children or are going to
be having children. It doesn't matter what age.

Thank you for the warning.

Summer: May to September
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 20:00 to 00:00 h
Shows with music at: 21:30, 22:00, 22:30, 23:00 and 23:30h

How about we meet at the fountain for the 22:30 - this would be a show with music. It would also be dark then for the lights. Then those who want can meet up beforehand and have a meal @ the 4 cats. ( 8pm) This is just a suggestion. I would be happy to organise the meal.

We could meet at the towers around 22:15 ready for the show.
I am going away on holiday tomorrow and wont be back until Sunday3rd June ( Stop jumping up and down joann !)

I really dont know how Im going to cope without my computer -Im treating it as kind of therapy.

If this plan is acceptable and you want to meet up then, let me know - For those who want to eat @ the 4cats send me a PM telling how many is in your group. When I get everyones reply I will email them and see about getting a reservation.

Count for dinner
Me x2
MaryJo x3
MrsG x2
Sallie x3
Kyla x4
formercper x4
(possibly Andrew x4 depending upon chn)

I will email the restaurant on Thurs 14th June so if anyone else wants to join us just PM before then ;)

Thanks for posting - I think this falls into the category of needing to watch your kids. When my kids were little - nothing, and I mean nothing was in their reach where they could get explorative. And even now, when I give them a few squirts I watch them rub their hands together.

A lady at work recently had to rush her daughter to the ER because she drank a nearly full bottle of Delsyum. Apparently at 5 she was able to get the bottle open, and that is after climbing onto the bathroom counter to get into the medicine cabinet. When i heard that i told her of the medicine cabinet I have, it's large and has a lock. She had her husband build one for herself.

ok guys I'm going to have to call it a night.

Have a good evening and take care

I could not have said it better... as I reach my 25th year of teaching I find parents are watching their children less and less on the whole, and leaving much of the parenting to the teacher or others:sad2:

Helen - Congrats! Where's the new picture? Have you named her yet? I'm assuming she's a she? If not - sorry he -- LOL - Mine's my baby so I just assume that means a she.

:rotfl: Mine's blue and is a she. In fact, if she isn't tucked into bed in the garage at night, she doesn't start the next day. Only twice have we left her parked in the driveway at night, and both times, she didn't start.

I would love to see a picture though of this green machine.

Lanyard Update: 6/7

I'm talking to the vendor and was thinking of ordering the smaller badge holder just to make sure the key card can't fall out. However, I found out that the smaller one will probably not work for us because of the way it attaches to the lanyard. The vendor is sending me a sample to show me and another sample of a horizontal badge holder of a size closer to the key card than the original vertical badge holder I was looking at. Anyway, if the key card will fit snug in the horizontal badge holder will anyone have an objection to that? or would you prefer to stick to the vertical badge holder? The vertical badge holder has about 1/2" extra width than the key card. But its vertical. The name card might make it fit more securely or might make it slip out more easily if its very glossy and slick. also on the horizontal badge holder, the name card may fit names better with larger print than you would get with the vertical badge holder. let me know your thoughts. Ciao!

I think the horizontal version will work as a good solution.

Wow, we're almost up to 150 lanyards. Hope it can fit in my suitcase:eek:

Can you ship them in advance to your hotel?

I'm off to take DD to voice lesson.

Brian

Lynn, I'm planning on 4 days in London pre-cruise. I want to see the Tower of London. I'm kind of hearing that it will be a long line there so I should buy my tickets online. Is that true?

Should I just buy an Oyster pay as you go card when I get to Heathrow or should I get it ahead of time. They take credit card, right?

Jeanne Andrew is your best bet for London questions but my brother is a black cab driver and I'll ask him tonight for you. There are nearly always lines for the tower of London.

Do you want to meet up while your in London or have you got lots of plans already, we could only do an evening because I'm still in school until 25th July but I can be in London by 5pm, are you seeing any shows what other plans do you have?

As always in cases of warnings like this, please take the time to read the snopes.com article as well.

It's important to balance risks. As I read the snopes article, nobody has died of this or even been permanently harmed. At the same time, one study showed that people who use hand sanitizers experienced a 59% drop in gastrointestinal illnesses which, if that trend holds true in the larger population, has more than likely saved many lives.

The lesson being - use hand sanitizers, but treat them as you would any item that a curious kid might decide to eat.

Oh yes - and if the kid really had an 85% blood alcohol level, she'd be dead.

April showers and all the other months come to think of it but no we don't do wedding showers (well unless you count the ones where the bride needs an umbrella)

Lots of showers where you live, huh??

I would love to see Lynn's pirate dress. My costumes come from this site - so I am a little concerned about bringing them.
http://www.pendragoncostumes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=pendragon

I'd love to post a pic of all of us including Joann on pirate night but I need to find it, I love dress up, the cruise when I met Joann was our first pirate night and I missed it, I got sunstroke and fell asleep missed the show and dinner and woke to the sound of fireworks I was all dressed up so I wandered up onto deck in time for the dancing!!! I got to see the fireworks and show at xmas![/quote]

What a bummer!

OK going for the night!

I don't believe him - but his light is off.

you mean you US teachers don't do this remind me to tell you the story of the boy I locked in the cupboard!!!:lmao: :lmao:

That's right rub it in:scared1:

I'm sure it was reasonable - although I can't help but think of Matilda right now.

Congrats!!

My pirate a day fix.

Great motto!!

:car: :car: :car: :car: :car:

Hi all,

Im back. Sorry I've been away all day but I've been having to much fun in my new car. Just catching up.

:drive: :drive: :drive: :drive: :drive:

I have a new car too - nothing too exciting - a RAV4 but it is so much fun, zips around places, I'm a happy girl!!:drive: :drive:

I'll check that one out - thanks!

So here's my story.........I get to work this morning, I have A LOT of work to do to finish the school year, I think, what the heck, I'll just stop in to the boards and check and see how many more posts Helen got overnight............all the sudden I notice.....6970........hmmmmmmmmm.......big pirate coming up.........so I start posting.......not a lot of action.....it's slow but steady.....so I leave the computer on........I check the student assignment books, I think, what can I do to stay on the computer and still keep an eye on the pirate?.........the students are doing their end of the year presentations......I check the boards as they're setting up............all of the sudden we're in the 90s...........I quickly post a few times, then I jump the gun and get 6999..........I'm in trouble........I've missed my chance..........so I take one more shot........I get hit with the 40 SECOND RULE....I'm sweating it out..........14 more seconds..........8 more seconds.........3 MORE SECONDS..... I HAVE NO CHANCE..............pirate: ..........7000 pops up! I quickly get off the computer............:teacher:

Nothing harmed, right??

I could not have said it better... as I reach my 25th year of teaching I find parents are watching their children less and less on the whole, and leaving much of the parenting to the teacher or others:sad2:
It's amazing what the parents expect out of teachers!!
