July 27, 2008 West Coast Magic - 10 Years of Magical Cruising

Robin, most excellent points.

I totally forgot about the rates going up, also the cost of DVC points have gone up. We started as members in 1991.

We are DINKS, and there for no kiddies to leave the points to, might leave to Make a Wish or similar charity.

We have enjoyed many a great vacation that we would not have due to DVC.

One guide made mention of purchasing several smaller contracts as they would be easier to leave for family members. i.e. get two 150 contracts instead of one 300 contract.

...............................................................................................
Yes the smaller contracts are the way to go:thumbsup2 We purchased 400 pts...2-200 pt contracts. We figures that we would purchase the other contracts in smaller ones. so if we get GCH/DVC we will get another 150 and get 2-75....easier to get an even amt so to divide them up between the 2 boys. We andt to leave them each at least 300 pts. Cant do to much for less than that each.

If they choose to purchase more when they get older than they can add on or we will add on for them with there $$$ on our contracts so they dont need to purchase the 160 needed amt. start up. Also if one chooses to add on and the other not than that is good also and better to be done under our contract.

After all for us it is all about the kids....even though we will use them till we are ready to turn over tio them.
.................................................................................................
We love our DVC.

Would have loved a DVC unit with a kitchen for the DL 1/2.

Historically dues have not skyrocketed. This is a good thing.

Sorry read between the red lines that is what I wrote......accidentally(sp)typed in between the quotes....

We generally do not use points when we stay at DL either, because we can get much better deals with cash (i.e. Fairfield Inn), but this last time got a great AP rate at the Paradise Pier so we stayed there and it was great.

We use our points basically for cruising. For example, this year we went on the 10 night Med cruise in July and had I paid cash it would have cost us $9,750. We used points for Robert and I and paid cash for our daughter Jamie and paid $1,799 plus the $75 booking fee.

We would not have gone if we had to pay cash for that cruise!

We have 650 points each year and originally bought in 1994 when points were inexpensive!:hippie:

Hmmm you must have paid about what $59 bucks a point? We paid $89.00 and know they are up to what $106. Wonder what they will be in 5 years ? Don't ya just wish that the annual fees were a fixed rate. That they would stay the same as when you purchased the property.

We will do the same thing when we get more pts...use some of them for cruising. At 400 pts not much you can really do with cruiseing on that unless you use all 3 use years and not do anything else. Would rather use them at DL or WDW at this point(pun intended) because can get more use out of them.

This cruise is costing us for a cat 6 $7,880 for the 4 of us and well was sooooo much more in points that the cash value was much better for us leaving us 3 trips to DL one including the 7 days concierge the week before the cruise.....and than we will also still have our other pts that we would have had to borrow for the cruise.

Does all that make sence:rotfl:

Hi Fellow cruisers,

Time to catch up on this thread again. Noticed that ages are listed so can someone please update our info:

jmatias from Oahu, Hawaii Me, DH, DS 12, DS 10, and DD 4

Now, we also have family coming along:

-Cousin and his DW, and DD 7 ( from LA )

-DH's sister, her DS 20, DS 15, and DS 12 ( from Oahu )

Starting to plan our pre-cruise stay. Is anyone staying at DL?

Aloha,
Jen

Hi Everyone

One of my duties for this cruise is to make custom name badges and lanyards for everyone on this thread. The name badges come with a plastic sleeve that is a perfect place to carry your key to the world card while onboard.

These name badges and lanyards are free to everyone who signs up on the thread. That includes everyone in your sailing party - even if they don't read the boards.

I include each persons first name on the name badge and their disboard name. If they don't have a disboard name then I include the name of the disboarder they belong to on the name badge.

I try very hard to make sure that everyone's name is correct, but I can't do it without a little help. So here is the first printing of the "name badge and lanyard list". Please take a look and make sure that the names in your group are correct. The first name listed is the name associated with the disboard ID.

If something is incorrect or missing, please let me know. If someone in your group also has a disboard name, please let me know. If you are not interested in receiving these free name badges and lanyards, please let me know. Please PM me with any corrections or additions.

OK - I have to post this for anyone that is interested.

I have this cruise booked as a single. Of course, they charge 1-1/2 times the $$'s if you are a single. We can always change the number of people in the room.

Is there anyone that is a single that would like to room with me.

I don't bite and am very good company - just ask Linda (Seaulater) ha ha

You can PM me, if you want to discuss it.

It is worth asking and if no takers, that is perfectly all right. I'll be going in any event - I hope

Well single ha....well how much to spit it? I can see if anyone I know may be interested on hoping on board...my next question are you a male of female???? that may make a difference with my friends:lmao: than again may not.

By the way "Hi" everyone :hippie:

lol - Well, Linda and I roomed quite a few times and I don't think her DH would appreciate a male w/her.

So I am definitely "female" - :lmao:

right now, the $$'s p/p for two is $1,726.83. That is w/o insurance and transfers, as I would not do neither of those. I'll be flying into CA, as most will be doing that is out of State.

Most of the big posters on this thread have cruised w/me previously several times (but, of course, not in the same room.

My DH passed away this past March, so if I cruise it is hard to get a roomy unless my family goes w/me and, of course, they work all the time.

You can PM me if anyone is interested.

EDITED TO ADD: I just looked at the posters and most all of them know me from previous cruises dating back a couple of years.

Seems like a game of follow the leader....so who is the leader :confused3 :rotfl: Is it like Vegas..those that cruise together stays together :lmao:

Leader, we don't need no stinking leader...... LOL

Good Morning all, Hope you all have a great weekend. Later this morn, we are off to the farmers Mkt, to get some stuff, bread and fruit, then a 5K run for the local schools, then a Geo Cache meet. We have never done a geo cache event so that should be interesting.

Weather looks like it will be great today.

Right.............like this group is all a bunch of "followers" :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We took a group of Girl Scouts to a GEO cache event a couple of weeks ago. They had a blast. You and Lynn are becoming quite the runners! Next thing ya know, you'll be running a full marathon!

Linda at one time I know I woudl have said no way to a full marathon, maybe the Goofy in 2009, we will see.

Had a great day, Farmers Mkt for some nice pastries veggies and fruit, saved for later, 5K race, I got a PB (personal best) at 32 min flat, felt good about that, Lynn did great also, she is starting run a little more with her walking. Funny how one’s perspective changes, after the ½ at DL, we looked at the distance and said it’s only 5 K. Not a problem.

The Geo Cache event was rather fun. Drove to most of the locations in the event, I would have rather have walked or ran to them, met some nice folks. Weather could not have been better, sunny and warm, supposed to chill off tomorrow and into the week.

We will be grilling some Italian Sausages for dinner tonight, with peppers and onions. Tomorrow I will make homemade breakfast burritos for breakfast. I might just have a glass wine tonight.

Replay of Jimmy Buffett’s Sept 5th concert on Radio Margaritaville.

Well, went to the college football game today (BYU vs. Air Force). Summer is officially over. Was 78 degrees this morning and by the end of the game it was raining (the whole 4th quarter) and 60 degrees.

All the trees on the mountains have started changing colors. Noticed that on the way home. Something about the rain must get them to stand out more than normal since I really noticed them on the way home!

Some of the trees are starting to change color here also. Today is rainy and cool, but it should be nice the rest of the week. My normal Monday long walk/run will have to be put off until later in the week, I may have to do my exercizing on the treadmill today.
