8 Days to go!!1  :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc

We'll be packing it all up this weekend! How many of you are dressing up for pirate night? I haven't gotten anything for it yet. I'm still undecided between going all out or just getting some eye patches.

Mary- Have you talked with Frank recently? He sent me a pm and said he has been trying to get in contact with you.

We are still trying to find pirate stuff. pirate: Also I find a shoe pocket hanger at Wal-mart for $5.88. Any advice for Formal ware i.e. Tuxs? Do you think that we will possibly be able to book excursions on the ship? 8 days WOW! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Vern ::MickeyMo

We are not dressing up exactly. I bought Tropical print dresses and shirt from Disney Direct a few months back. Other then that, we bought eye patches and a gold hoop earing from DL last weekend. That along with the bandanna is what we are wearing.

8 days! 8 days! can't wait! :bounce: :cheer2:  :bounce: :cheer2:

Another question I have, Is anybody doing door magnets & or Lime green shirts. The wife needs to know. She found the paint samples at Home depot. Vern ::MickeyMo

My husband always wears a tux on formal night. It's not required but it is fun to dress up. Of course, he owns his tux so there isn't any additional cost involved. I don'tknow the cost in renting one.

I do have door magnets - I took a mickey head stencil I made and cut out magnets and then attached card stock printed with our names and our favorite Disney character for each person in our room.

I am not bringing the lime green shirt though.

Here is the info I know on pirate night....got from these boards...
.......... Then at 9:45 there is a show that starts on deck 9 with the characters---captain hook swings down from the stacks---everyone says it is a blast. Then there are fireworks done by Disney. ........... :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

wow 9:45....I know my 5 y/o DS would love it, but not sure about his twin sister. But the time :guilty: !! My kids are generally in bed at 7:30 at home, not sure how they could make it to 9:45.??

Will have to play it by ear and see how they do. I would hate to miss all the fun just to SLEEP! LOL

Just so you don't have to read thru everything. We are having a Disboard Meet on Sunday 7/24/05 at 11:30 am in the Promenade Lounge.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and thier families!

Door Magnets -- Yes
Lime Green Shirts -- NO

Pirate Night -- We bought T-Shirts at Pirate's Cove in Long Beach. We will probably buy eye patches and earrings at DL. Could not find anything pirate related at Party City.

Tux's -- Look at your docs. I think there is a company that rents tux's for cruise ships ($85 to 125 ???).

Excursions -- Just a Hunch ... I don't think the excursions are truly sold out. I think they have some openings because not everyone has internet access to book online. But you need to be the first one at the excursion counter.

Desiree - Laura Here from Norwalk - in case you haven't bought anything theres the Halloween Club that's in Santa Fe Springs (technically) its the big building that advertises halloween costumes year round. Its address is Firestone but its across from the Lowe's on Carmenita. My daughters and I went to look but the actual costumes are anywhere from $30 to $200 for very ornate costumes. They have a small selection of boots, eye patches, bandanas and cuff links they may have some other locations in the store but we went as they were closing. As it turns out, my older daughter dressed up as a pirate 2 halloweens ago so she just about set. Yeah - now to concentrate on the other 4. Oh well - talk to ya later.

I forgot all about the Halloween Store. We have been there before but did not think of it this time. Thanks for the suggestion. Where about in Norwalk are you? I grew up at Bloomfield/Imperial Hwy.

Wow, 5 pages have been added on since I was last on. (I was a a tech camp for a week)

Okay, I'l try to reply to some questions.

California Adventure- This place is very nice, not huge crowds and Disney-standard rides. The best ones (In my 14 year old opinion) are the California Screamin', Mullhulland Madness, that Grizzly water ride, Muppets 4-D, the Ferris Wheel, and Soarin' over California. But there's lots of other rides, like the Tower of Terror and that other one sort of like it (forgot the name). The Ferris Wheel is a good ride because there are rocking cabins for the more thrill ride sort, and then the still cabins, which are normal and don't swing around (great for small children). The California Screamin' is a Six Flags-type rollar coaster, but with just one loop. Its not for smaller children, but is a blast for me and my 10 year old brother. The line isn't as long as it is at a top rollar coaster as it would be in, say, Great America. There is also a five-star restraunt with no dress code there, which I haven't personally experienced but seems like a good place to eat (my family lives on pizza and burgers, heaven forbid us getting pasta or steak!). There are a lot of rides that smaller kids would like too, such as a fort-type thing from Brother Bear and other places. Its not as big as Disneyland (it fit into its parking lot!), and not the same kind of atmosphere, but its a great park nonetheless.

Excursions- my family and my cousins' families all booked excursions weeks before today. Some excursions are completely full, and we didn't get in (such as I only got in the swim with dolphins, and can't go because I'm too young to be unaccompanied). We've had to rebook and rediscuss excursions, which isn't easy with 15 people living from the Bay Area California to the LA area to the Phoenix area.

Tux- there is a company that rents tuxes for the cruise, but it does cost quite a bit of money. Also, there is limited selection aboard the ship so if your tux doesn't fit, you might not be able to exchange it. For the kids, tough luck. There are no exchanges.

Pirate Night- I believe I asked this question, and love hearing your answers. Thanks to all those who chipped their two cents in and let me know about that night.

We live near the police station or down the street from the AMC 20 theaters. Not too far from where you grew up. I tell you this is a small world. Can't wait to catch up with your (our?) group - I have had some amazing coincidences way cross the country.
:rolleyes1 Its A small world after all!!!! :rolleyes1

P.S. - My DH wants to know if you ever went to Moffitt or was Hargitt all elementary then? He says that he knew of a Desiree back then. Does Sheila or Rosemary ring a bell? This is tooooooo weird if it does. Freaky Deak!!! :earseek:

I went to Hargitt. It was an elementary then. Now is a middle school. I lived in the Norwalk Manor back then. We aren't very far from there. We frequent Frantone's a lot.

Neither name rings a bell. I was the only Desiree at Hargitt the entire time I went there..did he go to Moffitt or Hargitt? I there from K - 6th before moving to La Mirada.

I can't wait to meet evertone! Seems like there is a lot of us from this area.

I am getting so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Several questions I saw...here are my answers to those....
Lime green shirt for us---no---I crossed that off the packing list.
Door Magnets---yes went completely overboard with those. I am now even decorating the inside of the door for the kids with all the possible activites we will be doing---pool, dolphins, stacks, lab, room service, formal night, pirate night---I think I came up with 20+ things. They will love it!!!! I will put them on the refrigerator when we get home. The outside of the two doors have a sign that we are traveling for the second time on DCL. I made Disney Vacation club signs too. Yes my whole family thinks I lost it but --they are going to love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Pirate Night--last time I wrote on here DD's and I were shopping for this and bought material to make them. I have never sewn anything really but they are turning out ok-should be done tomorrow. The whole family is matching in color---now my husband and I are Aggies so the red is really more shiny red maroon. Twin DD's will be on a teen sunset cruise that night but before they leave they are going to get their picture done and then DH, DD and I will get it before our dinner time. The whole family picture will have to be done at the deck party when they get back.
DH and I plan on meeting everyone on Sunday. We are playing the bingo game at 11:00---prize around $500 and Vista Spa treatments are the grand prize. So if I am doing good, I may be late!
If anyone has teens that are stack teens, they are talking about meeting in the stacks at 2:30 and then again at 10:30 for the tribe activities that night.
I CAN'T BELIEVE WE LEAVE IN ONE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone heard about the weather this week on the ship?

He went to Moffitt the entire time. Oh well, if I can get him to go to the meeting then you all can meet him. BTY - want a laugh? He was reading over my shoulder when I was replying and thought that DH stood for Dumb Husband. LOL - all the girls had to laugh and we ended up on the floor but after thinking about it for a few minutes - you know - it makes some sort of weird sense. BTY 2 - he was constantly riding his bike in the area (Manor) -- you may have come across him anyways.

OK - just a thought - has anyone come across this before? In May I got to talking to the girl in charge of the library - its in the Cigar Club - I happened to ask if the library accepted books from passengers cause I had taken a lot of books to read over the course of the crossing - she mentioned that she thought the ship would but she suggested - scratch that - (don't want anyone in trouble ) - implanted the idea that I donate the books I didn't want to the crew library. I was a little surprised but it made sense. Apparantly the crew is not allowed to read those books designated for passengers s/a Da Vinci book, Stephen King, Stephen Hawkins?!? and other examples to drop a few names.

She said that their crew selection is very weak. I spoke with my room host and he said that anything left over in the rooms upon disembarkation day is collected and either disposed of or dispersed. ( I happened to make some crew member rich in laundry detergent and softener purposely - they were too heavy to carry back out) I also left 3 hardback books and 1 paperback which helped lighten my suitcase some. Those books add up. I just hope that they made it down to the crew library.

Anyway, since I'm such a reader - I constantly have books left over that I don't know what to do with. Just thought that if anyone else had the same problem that we could all "donate" any leftovers to those crew members. Just an idea. Considering most of those employees work for bare minimum and rely on tips for their living. Any extra money they have I'm sure they don't want to waste just to buy a new hardback book costing about $25 now I think. Anyway, if anyone else thinks this is a good idea how about sounding off? And think of it this way - justify the heavy load up by rationalizing that the space those books took up can be replaced with souvenirs or lighter suitcases. LOL - DH went for that part - the lighter suitcases anyway. Let me know if you all think this sounds good? Take care and hope to meet you all soon - I'm so excited!!!!!!

Let the Magic begin in 7 days - Yeah :wizard:

That is an awesome idea about the books! If I can get my DH to let me bring them that will be another story, but I will try.
Also thought I would throw out this idea that I just threw together very quickly for pirate night. I took a piece of black craft foam 12x18---you can get it at Walmart or a craft store-cheap $1--I made a pirate hat out of it. I folded it in half (6x18) and stapled it closed on the two ends. On the fold, I cut out a piece of foam--1/2inch tall and about 10 inches long. On the other side I shaped it like the top of a pirate hat. Not really cutting off much. Then put it on DH head and we all liked it. I made a few adjustments by stapling it to fit his head better. Since it looked good, I added a skull and crossbone in white to the center of the hat. It is not professional at all but cheap, fits and can be thrown away.
