July 20th, 2011 – 10 Night Mediterranean "Mickey's European Explorers"

Hi everyone, thought I'd register on the board aswell as I'm getting excited about the cruise now!

Good question about the sockets, didn't think of that yet...

Am still a bit worried on what to wear on formal and semi formal nights... will suit and tie be ok or is tuxedo the standard on formal nights?

Hi and welcome to the boards.

You and me both not sure about formal nights!!! We went before and OH took a tux the one time and not the next, but wondering if should take a tux this time!!!! Semi formal is more smart, tie not required really, a lot of people just had a smart short sleeved shirt and chinos. Formal night varied from suits to Tux and just shirt and tie, some without tie! I think anything goes.

I read on another thread that the outlets by the desk are 110 - but the outlets under the beds (where the lamps plug in) are 220!!! This would be great, as I'm not really wanting to buy a converter for Pete's razor and electric toothbrush....

(If this info is wrong, someone please correct me!0

I have no idea if they are different, our adaptors all worked for the Iphone, laptop, phone charger etc.

I don't actually own any UK - US converters since I still have US appliances (including my laptop/iphone - all US purchased.)

My husband is bringing a suit...would love to see Sam dressed up, he is anxious to wear his little tie but I'm having a hard time finding a dress shirt that I like here....this is when I really miss Nordstroms!

Suit and tie is perfectly fine. We didn't see many tuxedos. My husband actually didn't even wear a jacket, just a tie and was not out of place.

Have you tried Marks and Spencer? I got my son two fab suits and a dress shirt there

Just a quick question, I know adults have to have their knees and shoulders covered to go into the Vatican but what about kids?

No, my dd was in shorts and Tees, most of the time and no one said anything to us.

I don't think they really worry about knees either, unless you have really really skimpy shorts  the longer ones are fine. Same with T shirts, if you have a small strappy top then probably you may get stopped, but a normal T shirt with bare arms is fine, I have some that are similar to vest tops (probably slightly wider fancy straps) from M&S and I have never been stopped. I think also it depends where you are. In the Vatican, they will be hot on this, other places not so and again depends if someone is at the door - usually some little old lady, who points to you and then to the large box of shawls and scarves by the door!

Tunisia and Istanbul are more conservative than most of the Med.

Has anyone got and idea how full our cruise is? I've just read on the main forum that the first cruise was fairly empty. I suspect ours won't be because it's closer to the end of the UK academic year.

Does anyone know?

So excited for this cruise! We've booked the port excursions and now we're getting ready here at home! Yay for Disney in the Med!

As far as adaptors for phones laptops etc these are normall dual voltage. If you look at the input voltage it's normally 110v - 240v. It's unusual for electronics to be anything else. Also electric razors and toothbrushes are usually the same, just check the detail on them.
hope this helps?

on our previous cruise, we just wore suit and tie aswell, at least we won't be the only ones :)

I have called DCL a few times, for various reasons, and have asked about this very item. About 6 weeks ago, I was told that it was about 80% full, but when we received our cabin assignment (no pixie dust :sad1: ) we called to see about an upgrade or mere "change" in same category. We were told that there really isn't much left, as the cruise is close to "sold out".

Speculation is that this is due to the fact that DCL is not returning to the Med next summer and there is no guarantee they will return in the future. (So glad we decided to book for this summer! :yay: )

We're getting excited - just hope i can get caught up at the office, so I can really relax on the trip!

Hi everyone,
This may sound like a strange question but since this is our first cruise...what kind of electrical outlets are in the rooms? Are they 110 or 220 or both?

Any help would be great, Thanks!

Cool, more people from Belgium ! Welcome ! We never had problems with chargers for 220v (the Magic was made in Italy,so..) but you do need addaptors for the outlets (usa version) . I believe they have changed that on the new ships ..

Meg

Thanks Meg for the welcome! We are very excited about this cruise! So, the outlets are 110v on the ship? We didn't know if we needed to bring adaptors with us for our 110v items to make them 220v.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Question
Do I need an electrical converter?
Answer
All stateroom outlets are 110V/60 Hz. Standard U.S. electrical appliances will work on board. Also, there's a hair dryer in every stateroom bathroom.:dance3:

I have been traveling for almost a week and have had a moment to catch up on my disboards.

FE- thanks Kate for organizing. Someone wanted to know know how much money and types of gifts...I'm not telling. Anything goes. :lmao:

Clothes: My husband will bring a suit and tie. I had to buy a new dress (too many good meals) It is knee length with some beading. I'll wear it twice. I love dressing up my kids, they will look better than us parents everynight.

Excursions- I thought i would have time on this "visit relatives" trip to get some ports organized, but not the case. DCL called yesterday to cancel the one thing my husband was excited about. Diving in Malta. So if anyone is now booking this on your own, please contact me.

Cabins-we did just get our cabin assignment, I cannot remember it now. We did get upgraded to two 9b's. (Kate we are near you) HOWEVER we need connecting cabins and got side by side. If anyone has a connecting cabins and does not need it, PLEASE let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

EMAILS-I know at an earlier post someone mentioned emailing for the younger kids. PM and we can start that.

Capacity-anytime I call Disney they always say 80% full regardless of the cruise. I do believe though, we are pretty full. I have gone in and made a mock reservation and many cats are sold out.

Take care, Jill

Its 110v, but most recent elecronic devices have "automatic" detection for the voltage (check the adaptors for i.e."AC 100 - 240V" )and then you should be ok..Our cameras, cellphones etc loaded just fine, even if they were 220v !!:thumbsup2

just had a bit of a problem with my iron..;that didn't got very hot ..

Hi

Just a quickie, I haven't seen any posts about the proposed meet on Monday at the Trafford, so I am going to bail out too.

My dd's sports day was cancelled this week, because of the rain and they are planning to hold it on Monday afternoon (depending on the weather).

It starts at 2pm, so I would have to rush off fairly early if we did meet.

If anyone wants to arrange another date, let me know.

Sorry to let anyone down.

Kate
