July 2016 Rental Car discounts?

HI Everyone,

Can't seem to find a July thread. We are looking at renting a car July 18-Aug 10. The car rental prices are so high this year (we have been the last 3 March break & summers and have seen the prices continue to increase) that we might have to drive. Which would be TORTURE for both myself and our kids. I am desperate to find a good discount. Need a SUV or minivan. Prices are insane. Really need that National KLM code to start working again!

Has anyone had luck finding a good rate or awesome code??

I need to book flights asap if we aren't going to drive. To recap: I do not want to drive. Ever.

Thanks for any help!

If OP is still around, maybe change the title of the thread to "JULY 2016 Car Rental Rate Watch Thread". Seems to be the "standard" naming convention and might get us more action on the thread. Always good to hear from others!

If anyone has a Chase Card with Ultimate Rewards (I have a Chase Sapphire), book through them. I asked on another forum if there would be extra fees added on and a poster said no.

I'm getting a Fullsize at National (I can use the Aisle) for $230 for a week (I only have 0.50 in rewards)

Wow, I'm shocked that the July Car Rental thread is so short. Most months are pages long by now! I see there is another thread but it only has 4 posts. Anyway, I currently have an Alamo rental for 7/13 - 7/16 using the Vegas Brazil code (7016427) and the one car class upgrade coupond (AU5059ODT) for $133.79 (Compact upgraded to Midsize). Certainly not the best price so I'm hoping to find better before my trip.

Holy moses, thanks for this! I just tried the code and it took our rate down from $1268 for a Full Size to $649 for a mini-van for three weeks. My kids thank you as well, now they won't be cramped three across in a car!

Be aware that the Brazil code includes some insurance.

The problem with that - and YMMV - is that your regular auto policy's liability coverage might cover you in a rental car IF you declined all coverage (that is the case with mine). (I've heard some policies just say they are secondary to any you buy from the car rental co. That is not true with my policy.) Also, some credit cards have similar criteria/issues with their auto rental coverage. (I might get Amex just for the $25 or so add on auto rental policy.)

Oh - and I'm far too lazy to figure out what happens if I get into an accident and Alamo (or Brazil LLC) says I wasn't entitled to use the code and, thus, do not get the CDW waiver/insurance that code added.

if you search the board people talk about it all the time.. many have used it with no problems.. make sure you read the fine print about using codes. Vegas Brazil is a south american? travel agency. What amanda said is spot on.

Thanks @livibug ...I went back and read the previous threads. I reserved a mid-size and there was no CDW. I'll probably keep checking elsewhere, for peace of mind, but the savings is too good to ignore.

I've used the Brazil code many times. It never adds the CDW for me. No idea why, but it's doesn't.

Use AS1 in the Product Code box and it gives you the same price as the Vegas Brazil code and doesn't add the CDW. It's also an Amazon Insiders code.

Can anyone use the AS1 product code? just wondering if they would ask for proof from where it is from. any help will be appreciated.

I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with it and I don't think there is proof to show. I like it because it doesn't add the CDW.

So weird, huh? Are you booking to pick up at MCO - maybe it varies by rental location?
I just went back and looked at the confirms I did using the Brazil code and all say "Cdw-allocated Inclusive," with a price in the rate $ column as "included." (I canceled these and haven't actually rented using the Brazil code; found other codes to use such as AS1 which combined with other codes I find on Disboards got very close on price to the Brazil code.)

I don't know why it doesn't show up for me. However, I do get the same price with the Brazil Code and the AS1 code so I'd probably just use the AS1 to be "safe".

Great price you got, btw!

Neither the Brazil nor AS1 code doesn't give much of a discount for me. I'm renting for a week and it's giving me $330ish for standard-full size. I wonder why? :confused3

My Chase Ultimate Rewards is still the best. $230 for a week.

Thanks so much for posting this. I used the same combo and booked the same deal, for nearly the same dates (7/13-7/17). Would like to find a better price, but at this late date, I'm not complaining (especially in light of the higher prices I'm seeing elsewhere).
