July 2013 car rentals

Thanks guys!!!! I used the vroom vroom code others posted above and got a full size for $295 for ten days...pretty good :)

Alamo using Contract ID (vroom, vroom rate) 299851 and coupon code AD2338FDF!

I have a 10 day ressie for $295 using the Vroom Vroom Code. It does include alot and it does make me wonder how safe it is to use it. However, my main question now is, does Alamo still include the additional driver as a perk of the Alamo Insider membership? :confused3 Just wondering because when reading the inclusions on the Vroom Vroom code, although it does include insurance coverages there is no mention of additional driver. When I made me ressie, I signed into my Alamo Insider Account...then I used the coupon code AD2338FDF and the corporate code 299851. Do you think I will still be able to get the free additional driver? :confused3

Alamo website will NOT give me the option to use Contract ID listed above. It keeps automatically putting VISA as my Contract ID.......any suggestions?

This is a quirk in their website; you must have entered the VISA code very recently. Clearing the cookies has never helped. I just usually have to wait about an hour before I go back into the website and it is gone by then.

Just jumping in to comment that, in general, its still quite early to see the discounts you are waiting for in July. My experience has been, at almost all times of the year, the best discounts are usually about 7-14 days before your departure date. We're well before that.

However, as you also know, there is no guarantee rates will come down, especially for "non-standard" car classes. My advice is: book something now that is non-binding. Keep your eyes open and keep checking. Once you get about three weeks out, really keep checking. Once you get in that under two week period, you may find yourself rebooking even several times a day. The rates change that fast. But also remember to cancel reservations you aren't going to use...

I'm coping this over from the june thread re: alamo visa contract ID...

to remove visa contract code when using firefox browser....

click on the firefox Tools tab from the firefox toolbar (mine is in upper left corner of screen)

click on options tab
click on Privacy tab
click on Show cookies tab
type alamo into the search section
click on remove cookies until all the alamo cookies are gone (about 10)

I can get a great rate of dropping the car off at the car care center of $166 as we are staying off site for 5 nights then onsite for 2

? is to get from car care center to our hotel. Would a taxi be the best bet?

thanks!

Thanks everyone. I had my daughter book it from a different computer. Worked fine then.:cool1:
I was trying several different company codes the other day, and it was a pain because I had to completely close all Internet Explorer windows each time.

I found the # in this thread just wondering if it works the same in reverse if we dropping off a car then going to a resort....

should I call on my way to the car care center?

thanks!
as we will be staying onsite then taking ME back to the airport

If you can time it to drop the car once you've moved onsite, then you can just get Alamo to drop you off at your Disney resort. Otherwise, I guess you could take a taxi (or have them drop you at a theme park/Disney resort and get a taxi from there)

Not necessary. The shuttle leaves the CCC on a fairly regular basis (every 30 min or so) and they'll take you wherever you like on Disney property. (It is true you need to call a day ahead if getting picked up at a resort to go to the CCC, but not leaving the CCC)

Not sure if it has been mentioned but check AAA! Today I got a 10 day rental out of Burbank for $255 ( my previous reservation was through Costco at $324). :goodvibes

What is going on with these rental rates ?? :confused3 I usually have a good rate reserved by now. I have a ressie using Vroom code, but judging by the previous posts, I no longer intend to use it. When will the rates start dropping ??? This is ridiculous!!!!! :(

Still early for July! Hold something now, but very often the best rates can be found 7-14 days before your trip starts. Keep looking...you very likely will do better.

bumping, because I have to get a better rate. I am thinking rates should start changing soon...at least I am hoping:rolleyes1

Patience! It isn't even June yet.

One thing you could do to give you an idea is go into Alamo (or your favorite rental agency) and do a "pretend" trip. Try some dates in June (don't go by the calendar...go by days of week...by that I mean if you're going Saturday to Friday, leave that alone) that exactly match your trip and also try corresponding dates a week or two from now. Since summer is pretty constant in Orlando (with the possible exception of 4th of July week) and that summer season has started, you should get a fairly good idea of what to expect. No guarantees though...make sure you're holding something, just in case.

So I've been checking on prices for the minivan I'm getting through Alamo. Last week I noticed the price actually went UP about $100 than what I have it reserved for. Today I checked again and I don't even get the option of a minivan and prices seem to be way up. I freaked out a bit, but I did pull up the reservation # and it all still looks good. I know end of June/begining of July is a busy time and all but I really didn't think it would go up or not even be an option. So glad I have my reservation and it's still $90 less than what I budgeted so I'm happy.

I tried simulating dates for june 6/12 - 6/22 to see what i would get. The rates are still over $250 for 10 days. I guess this year the deals aren't as good at all. Or maybe I missed out on something. We always go from Wednesday to the following Saturday and last year i went from 7/17 to 7/27 and paid $139 all in !!!!! I will keep trying. Looks like I may have to do a priceline deal this year. I will wait until about 2 weeks to my trip before I lock into that.
