July 2011:Calling all planners-Post your dates & Resort

This has nothing to do with July but we're going back in November. DH has another conference so I'm tagging along again. We'll be staying at the Poly for a few days before hand. The awesome news: I just got an ADR for CRT the day after my birthday!!!! We arrive late the night before so I'll be celebrating a day late. Princesses!!!! On my birthday!!!!! :goodvibes Squee!!!!!

:woohoo:

I don't get it at all, but when my brother goes without us, he never makes an ADR. He doesn't care if they get a TS meal or not. He loves when he goes with us, because I do all the ADR's and stuff. He doesn't love doing the legwork for it, though. He's in the 'i don't know what i want to eat 6 months from now' group :) Somehow, though, he does always manage to get a walk in or two at a character meal every trip he does without us, so who knows?

It people that don't care about getting up at 6am in the morning to make ADRs that get walk ups:lmao:

I called Disney regarding the rest of our Mickey mail. Apparently it's been sent. But Canada Post is on strike. Apparently Canada Post told the, that they would deliver what they already have. Which is a lie, in my opinion since we haven't had mail in a while. And well if I still haven't received the mail before we get to AKL, I have to call back and they will sent another package at AKL for them to give it to us. Why can't they use UPS like DME? Another thing for me to get in order before we arrive. GRRR

:headache: Hopefully everything gets settled soon.

:sad1::sad1::sad1: Just looked at 15 day forecast on accuweather for WDW. RAIN EVERY DAY. Not isolated, scattered, thunderstorms, just flat out rain......

I know it's still a week and a half away... but..... Where's the temper tantrum smilie?

Having lived in Florida, it's far too early to predict what the weather will be 10 days from now. Plan for rain though, you'll see it at some point. This being hurricane season, it's possible tropical systems could affect the forecast. It's pretty rare, though, that you see a week full of constant rain. Of the 7 years or so that we lived in Florida, I could count on one hand the number of days where it rained day after day for more than a couple of days.

As a former forecaster (in the Air Force) I have to defend my forecaster buddies out there. If you think forecasting is easy, sit at the beach one day and try to predict exactly when a wave will break, that's the equivalent of forecasting a weather front. You can also boil a pot of water and try to predict when and where the bubbles will come up from the bottom of the pot. That's what it's like to forecast pop-up summer storms.

That said, I never listen too much to TV forecasters. Many of them have degrees in broadcast metorology, which basically means they can do a minimum of reading charts and forecasts and translate that into TV language. I also don't settle on one forecast source. USUALLY, Accuweather is the most optimistic of the forecasts (they typically don't forecast rain until it's raining), Weather Channel usually comes down somewhere i the middle and National Weather Service will forecast just about any plausible weather to cover their forecast for anything.

You can sometimes get an idea as to how well each model is doing by tracking the forecast against the actual weather over time. I.E. note the 10 day forecast, then 10 days later compare the actual weather. Most folks don't do that, and they tend to only remember the forecasts where they get rained on (when they weren't supposed to).

Rant off. :) My suggestion, pack for hot and rain, it's summer in Florida. If it's not hot (it will be) and it doesn't rain (it will) be happy. :)

One time, someone noted that Weather Underground had listed almost every kind of weather over the course of a day... and he said the same thing - if they threw everything at the board, something has to stick!

(It was a predicted blizzard, so we did have thunderstorms and snow and wind and then sun but no rain but you get the drift)

My brother emailed me at 7:30am and said "in exactly three weeks, we'll be done stuffing our faces full of Tonga Toast.":banana:

July 23-28
Yea the kids first time to go.

Welcome!

Ok, I've been contemplating letting ya'll in on this because its not all about Disney but I feel I need to vent my frustrations with someone.

Last week, I started to hear birds in part of my kitchen, so when I went to fill out my form for being out of the town house I live in for a while, I reported it to them and asked that they be removed. 2 guy's came out and used a shop vac to "remove" the birds. One of the gentlemen said they didn't get them out while the other said "Oh yeah, they just left." Fast forward to last week Wen, I started to smell this funky smell in my downstairs bathroom. My house had been clean for a few days but here was this smell. So Thursday, I go in and tell them that I don't think the bird's are out and about the smell...so they say they will send someone out....Today they STILL hadn't come out to take care of the problem so I went to the leasing office again. They sent someone out while I was gone (I know this because I left my front door unlocked to make sure someone would come) and the bathroom still smells like something died in there! Add insult to injury, my optometrist told me today that the pink eye I have is from allergies...when I asked if that could be part of the problem he said yes:headache: I wish they would come out, rip out the duct work and get rid of that disgusting smell! My mom says I should call the health board on them and a friend says I should call the city on them. I just want the smell and or the dead animals out of my walls.

I lived in Florida half of my life, and you're right on the money. Nowhere else have I ever experienced weather like Florida! I do remember times when it rained every day....but we're talking like 5-10 minute downpours, and then it's over and sunny again!

I was in the Air Force too...stationed in Florida actually.

That sucks. I would definitely call someone, I don't know who. Hopefully they will do something so you don't have to deal with that smell.

They came out today and when I called to find out if they did remove the birds, they said they were removed the first time they came out....uh if they did the smell would be gone. I went to suck out the vent myself though and blew a fuse so now I'm waiting for them to come back out here. Hopefully they come before I take my kids to the movies because the lights in the kitchen, that particular bathroom and the laundry room are all not working.

That's an unfortunate side effect of them being a government agency. I used to work closely with the NWS guys (and gals) and they're in a position where if they miss something that's possible, they'll feel the heat.

Lots of people asked me why I didn't stick with weather when I got out of the military. I always said, from a pure science it was facinating, but like anything it was the politics that made it undesireable.

Just before I got out, I had an incident that confirmed my decision. We had a strom come through our base, which I properly forecasted to the "T". I had the watches and warnings out in time, but unfortunately a forecast won't stop the damage. We got 10+" of rain and 70+ MPH winds in a matter of a few minutes. It did several million dollars worth of damage on the base.

With all I did right that day, they still sent out an investigation team to nit pick everything I did. Fortunately they didn't find anything, but if they did, my boss and I potentially would have been punished for it. More than once, my boss came up and thanked me for the job I did, saying I had saved his job that day. I'd love to be a storm chaser, but I have no desire to predict the weather any more.

We planned to change around some of our ADR's today, but the system is down right now. As soon as I make updates, I'll repost our ADR's with the changes.

On a lighter note...

Those attending the DISmeet on the 20th can you please tell me what your all time favorite color is? It has to do with your gift that I'm bringing so please dish!

I did not mean to offend any forecasters!! :flower3: Just basing my comments on my local weather persons......I agree with your assessment on the weather stations.....I always use Accuweather for Florida trips, the Weather Channel is 50/50 and our local is usually just off.

Yuck - good luck with that, I hope you get it resolved soon!

Let's go with blue - that would be the safest for our family..........

That is fine - keep me posted. I was possibly going to change one of mine too.

PopArtGirl,
I'm sorry about your documents. Hopefully things get righted soon.

And DxDP without ADRs? :scared1: That's crazy talk!!!!! I think you could probably get by on DDP without them but not DxDP where that's every meal.

I tend to ignore weather forecasts until they get a little closer. However, I am seeing thunderstorms on the first three days of our trip that starts this Friday. I have a nice Columbia poncho--just can't forget it.

I was in Personnel. I worked in the MPF for about 2 years and then did about 3 years in the MSS Orderly Room. I didn't have a cool job, but it did help me get into HR when I got out!

My tickets arrive yesterday. We are contemplating photo pass. Getting really excited!

Purple, Green, Red, Blue, whatever, we aren't picky. DD's fav is purple, though LOL

That is fine - keep me posted. I was possibly going to change one of mine too.

I am so glad it isn't just me, you have no idea! I'm not even looking at that stuff anymore or I would just keep changing things around. It's my crack. :rotfl: ( Oh and seeing how this is DIS, no offense meant if you actually use crack...) :rotfl::rotfl:

Well, I think I have almost everything packed except for things that I have to use up until we leave. I still have a few things in the dirty laundry pile but it's nominal. I now feel as if a huge weight has been taken off my shoulders. It's been replaced by another weight, albeit a smaller one.
