July 2010 Big Bdays Family Reunion (Update 9/28 Final Thoughts)

Getting Close to 30 day Mark :cool1:

Hope you had a nice Memorial Day Weekend :goodvibes

OH wow Rachel went through the maze book so quick. It is so much easier when they get older and you can bring one book for the trip.

I will have to tell Kacy about that. She is our bacon queen.

Yeah, she did it again for our trip to PA. It takes 3 hours and I planned 6 toys ... one for each 1/2 hour. But I didn't bring the DVD player or her computer, so those two things will add more time.

We did do "audio books" though and she loved that -- while coloring, too. :rotfl2: I got a new series we are going to listen to called "Katie Kazoo Switcheroo". It's really cute...about an 8 year old girl who wishes she was someone else and each story she turns into someone else. Very cute and funny and each has a problem (or two) that needs to be solved. The first one she turns into the class hamster and the 2nd one she turned into the "lunch lady".

I'm hoping to get more for Disney.

Your gifts and gift bags look wonderful!!! Maybe you could get dry erase boards and/or magna doodles.

I probably need to continue my pursuit of goodies...it is so much harder and so much less fun for eight year olds. :sad2:

Yep, great minds. I bought her a dry erase board (magnetic) and then bought her the magnetic markers so they will stick to the board, less likely to lose them in the car.

Rachel and I just made a paper chain today for our Disney countdown. She wanted to start today. So it's 36 more days until we leave for Disney!!

I remember "Katie Kazoo Switcheroo." Kody absolutely loved reading her books. I got the biggest kicks out of those books too. :goodvibes

yeah, we are loving them too!

Hey, you (and anyone else reading this) need to let me know of other books (series) that Kody liked, esp the younger ones. We aren't ready for Harry Potter or Twilight yet, obviously. But I'd like to start getting Rachel (soon to be 5 years old) introduced to some new books.

I bought some more stuff for Disney -- man, whoever thought the cost of a vacation was just the food, tickets, hotel and gas/air did NOT know what they were talking about!! :rotfl2::lmao:

We went to the Dollar Tree and got glo stick necklaces, bracelets, and wands. Then I got Disney princess brown lunch bags and Disney Fairies ziploc sandwich size snack bags. I also got 2 gallon bags to put our daily clothes in for each person (kids will double up).

Then today I ordered "Squeaky Shoes" for Elizabeth -- the kind that squeak every time she walks correctly. No worries, the squeak can be disabled for when we are tired of it or need to be quiet for a show or something.

However, Rachel has outgrown both of her swimsuits. We found out this weekend when we went to my sister's house (they have an above ground pool) and Rachel's booty was sticking out!! So now I need to order two suits for her for Disney.

Kacy loved "The Magic Tree House" books, and Kody loved everything by Beverly Cleary, especially the "Ramona" books. Both are series so there are a lot of books. Another series that are easy readers and the first books Loren learned to read were the "Biscuit" books. All good choices.

Thanks! I will look into those, too. :goodvibes

Ugh - I think my post was lost!

Nick Bruel- Bad Kitty books - Bad Kitty, Poor Puppy, Chapter: Bad Kitty takes a Bath, Happy Birthday Bad Kitty

Puppy Place series: Ellen Miles. These might be a bit old for a 5 year old

Junie B. Jones: My girls didn't love them, but they read some.

Isn't there a new fairy series out?

I think there is also some type of Peter Pan series.

We are reading the Kingdom Keepers books; they would be good for when she is older.

I think disney store is having a sale this weekend, maybe they have some cute bathing suits you get Rachel

I forgot about Junie B Jones and Amelia Bedillia. Both were favorites in our house.

Thanks for the suggestions! I loved the KK books myself. I'll definitely have to look for the new fairy series ... is it based on Tinkerbell or a non-Disney fairy?

I haven't heard of Bad Kitty or Puppy Place but they sound good. Rachel loves animals.

Sadly, our Disney store went out of business ...

I haven't read any BC books but I loved, loved Amelia Bedilla!

The Beverly Cleary stories will grow with her. There are several series that she has written and has recently started writing for teens.

Got to p/u Rachel from preschool, so quick reply

The Micky Font Cricut cartridge has the ticket with Mickey Mouse sticking his ears above the ticket. Super cool! This is probably my favorite cartridge -- I love the font and it's quick and easy to make Mickeys.

Oh, I'm taking a Gypsy class on June 26th!! I bought the Gypsy and really haven't used it yet. I can't wait to learn about it. I'm hoping to use on the way down to Disney -- could start designing some pages or at least prepping the cut-outs I will use.

Okay for a second there I was picturing you in a head scarf and long colorful dress with your bosom popping out :rotfl:

this must be a type of cricut machine?

:lmao::rotfl2:No, I'm not becoming a Gypsy!!:rotfl::laughing:

Yeah, a Gypsy is a portable scrapbook device that allows you to design and save things to be cut on your Cricut machine later. It also does a whole lot more ... like search for a particular word or shape you want on any cartridge, "weld" letters together so they cut out as one word instead of each letter, etc.

It's just another way that the Cricut company (Provo Crafts) sucks me in!!

that sounds VERY VERY cool Marsha!!

Although you'd make a cute gypsy....just sayin :rolleyes1

:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
