July 20, 2012 -The MAGICAL BIG APPLE

Okay...the trip is next month as we are flying into New York on July 10. I have done no planning for months so I need to catch up quick!

Any suggestions on the best way for a family of 5 to get from La Guardia to our hotel near Time Square at 5:30pm on a Tuesday? The hotel suggested we just go to a taxi stand and wait for a van taxi. Not sure how often those come around. Don't mind some advice...

Also, is anyone planning on taking the post-cruise New York excursions to the airport? Our flight doesn't leave until 4:30 so although expensive it seemed a nice and easy way to end our trip. I'm just worried that since they aren't available to book until the cruise they might not fill up and then we need an alternate way to get to the airport and then a long, long wait...

Getting super excited now! Just hope my eye holds out.

Taxis come quite often and there are a lot of minivan and escape taxis here in NY. It shouldn't take you too long to get into Manhattan from Queens at that time of day.

Just wanted to remind everyone that there is one week until I am closing the Fish Extender sign ups.

Also please come join us on facebook.

Since we've never been to NY before, sorry for being dumb. Is it quite easy to find a taxi stand at La Guardia? Do we just grab our luggage and then just stand and wait?

Not sure the details on taxis in NY. Every city has different rules. Minivans are frequent?

Is anyone interested in these? They need a minimum of 15 to not be cancelled. We are a family of 5 so we just need 10 more folks to be interested to have one run.

Sigh. I hate not being able to prebook this!

Sorry a minimum of 15 days to run what? An excursion day of departure?

Not 15 days but 15 people to run the excursion. You can only book it onboard. Just checking to see if there is any interest from this group to do a debarkation day excursion with airport transfer.

Yep they are quite easy to find. You walk out from baggage clame and ther eis a booth with a line generally and the guy in the booth will help you. they are yellow taxis.

Gotcha, I was reading and replying way too quick, LOL!
Sorry I live in NJ so when I depart the ship I'm going home to take a nap!

LAST CALL for the Fish Extender Sign Ups.

I just found the facebook page and put in a request to be added to the group.

I haven't been on the Dis much the past couple of weeks, but wanted to make sure we were on the Fish Extender list as I couldn't find the list posted. Probably just over looked it.

Still waiting for my pathology report, but as of Friday I have a posterior vitreous detachment with a retinal bleed. I have these huge dark floater in my left eye that moves around super fast. It is very distracting and makes me sick to my stomach. Have to see a retinal specialist in two weeks. AAAA. My eye doctor said that it should be fine, most of the time the blood reabsorbs back into the eye, but just to be sure she wants the retinal specialist to check for tears with his special equipment.
.

Oh Selg! I had a detached retina last year and my doctor rushed me into surgery, saying if the detachment progressed I could go blind. I went in to find out about these dark floaters and an hour later I was having surgery. The good news is, my vision is fine a year later. Don't fool around with that, see a retinal specialist (I wouldn't wait 2 weeks, I'd push for sooner). You are really getting slammed this spring, I'm so sorry. More prayers.

Taxi's are ubiquitous in NYC, esp at the airports (they love the airport, because they know its usually going to be a healthy fare into midtown). Plenty of minivan and SUV taxicabs as well. Also contact your hotel--some run airport shuttles, which, if you are arriving at 5:30 might be a more attractive choice (rush hour traffic equals hefty cab fare). Not sure what the current rules are on airport-to-midtown fares are currently, metered or flat rate.
