Hi Deb in Ct!!!

I'll take a snow flake or two, as long as we stop with these darn TORNADOES!!! A real downside to being in the Midwest in the spring . . .

Ahhhhhh tornados! :sad2: Just watched the tv all afternoon about several tornados just north of here. Close to my parents house! :scared1:
Now if we can just manage to avoid the H word (see, I won't even say it)
this summer, we'll be doing good!

We love the midwest! Deb in CT is from KC! She knows all about tornados. We had some bad weather here yesterday, but I think most of it went around us. Some to the north, some to the south, and most to the east. Sorry Deb. :teeth: However, it was 87. Too warm for April.

Lisa - are your folks ok? I saw a lot of bad weather went through there yesterday, but didn't have time to watch any detailed reports. Did you guys get anything? We have had the H word here. Nothing above pea/marble, but my new truck was sitting at school when it came through. :furious: Actually, we can't get any cars in the garage anyway. :lmao:

We are almost finished shopping! I have my DH to finish, and that will be like pulling teeth from a toad. He hates to shop, but I'm tired of bringing stuff home and having to take it back. The girls and I need just a few more things, but just casual clothes, all of our dinner clothes are done. :Pinkbounc

Hi Patti!!

We had a tornado that hit a town 30 miles south of us on Sunday night, but nothing other than a couple of warnings and some severe thunderstorms for us the last couple of days.

Ugh, the "H" word. To me, that means HURRICANES! I hope we don't have any problems with them on the cruise. It seems to me that the more severe storms occur later in the season . . . like mid-August to late September. So, hopefully we will miss it . . . keeping fingers crossed. DH and I were on a Royal Caribbean cruise back in September, 1998, and we were out an extra day at sea, avoiding Hurricane Georges . . .

Done with shopping??? :faint: I just started THINKING about what to bring!!
Actually, what I gotta do is get the kids passports renewed . . . I think they expired last year. I got the forms, I just gotta find the old ones and get their picture taken. If all else fails, I think I can still get away with just their birth certificates. I think the passport requirement actually starts next year, but they are encouraging people to bring one this year.

Say, what are you doing for the men's formal wear? I am thinking www.cruiselineformals.com. We used them last time, and it worked OK. I know a lot of people get tuxs from eBay, but I hate the hassle of packing them and getting them cleaned afterwards. We have so few occasions that need a tux here at home.

Yes, the H word I was speaking of if Hurricanes! :sad2: See, you made me say it!!!

Nothing major at my parents house! Did see on the news, 2 semis overturned on I-70 between JC and Abilene! :scared1: More rain should be hitting my house soon. Oh and the wind will be AWFUL again today like yesterday! :furious:

Don't forget to email me your names, where you are from, ages and anything thing else. I've only heard from a couple of people. LDB1030@sbcglobal.net

Quick question from a NY girl. Ok, I haven't been a girl in a while and I've moved to NJ (exit 10 before you ask). In movies I see people run to storm cellars outside the home. Do they have them away from the home in case the home collapses (God forbid)?

I have relatives in Fl and TX and constantly watch the weather channel (and pray) for my family during all the extreme weather. I know why they can't have basements in FL (low water table and all).

I explain to my ds5 how lucky we are not to have the bad storms that our relatives have. Sure we have cold weather and snow, but nothing that really risks our safety.

Please send some nice weather our way. My ds has a tball parade and his very first game tomorrow. They're calling for R (don't want to say the word) and I'm hoping to at least have the parade. We're in a podunk town, but it's still cute.

Well those are probably older farm houses you see on TV w/out basements!
There are alot of those around here but I've never lived on a farm so I've never been IN one! They have them in alot of trailer parks also.

We have a basement in our house now thank goodness but our last house we did not. When my daughter was 3 weeks old, an awful tornado hit the town next to us and I was in a closet with her! Still scary to think about! :sad2:

The house they built recently right behind us does not have a basement, it's a "patio" home and they have a tornado shelter in the closet in the master bedroom! :thumbsup2 Saw some other newer homes out here that have them just off the kitchen!

Let's hope it's a CALM spring here in the midwest!

Thanks!!!

I got Palo for Friday at 8:30. Thought it would be a great way to cap off the cruise!! And I was going for earlier, like 7, but I read on a Navigator that there is going to be a Talent Show at 7:30, so we'll try to make that!!

Hi all, been awhile since I've posted. That talent show sounds fun, can you give me a link to the navigators so I can see what to plan for?

Also, can anyone tell me what the best excursions for two little ones, an almost 2 and a 3 year old? Would I be better off sticking with the Disney excursions or venture to some of the ones mentioned on the islands?
Thanks so much

Ok----did I miss something here!!! LOL! Are you planning on becoming a girl again before the cruise!!

Deb

Ok--that quote didn't work well.

As for tornados, oh yeah, remember those real well. Had a few touch down close to us growing up. Tore the roof off a strip mall about a mile away. Remember tornado drills in school. Oh what fun. We don't have hurricane drills out here. LOL!! Quick---everyone stand at a 45 degree angle and hold on tight to something. Heehee.

Ok--something funny. We closed on a new house this past WEdnesday and we were talking in our empty bedroom (haven't moved in yet) and there was an old fashioned thunderstorm outside. Don't get many here in CT. Decided we really didn't need to get a generator right away. Bet we could postpone until fall and keep the money for a while. Literally 2-3 minutes after the sentence came out of my mouth---we lost power. We both cracked up and decided it was a sign to not delay.

Deb

I keep saying boys/girls to my ds5. When you're in the NY/NJ area you can tell what area in NJ by what exit they're from. Do you remember Joe Piscopo on SNL doing a skit. You from NJ? I'm from NJ.

Hi, LIM!!

I found that the DIS DCL FAQ thread is very helpful. It has some scanned navigators, including some from a January Western cruise. That was what I was basing my planning on. Of course, things may change between now and July, but at least it gives me a base to work with.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1002071

As for the excursions, I'm not sure. Our kids will be 11 and 15, and we booked all of ours through DCL.

Ok gang---was surfing the boards and found some info that will be soooo cool if it goes as scheduled. There is a shuttle launch scheduled for 7/1. Here is the info. That puts it right before the mandatory drill. Wonder if they will delay sailaway for the launch? Cross your fingers.

Space Shuttle Discovery - STS 121 - ISS ULF1.1
Date: 7/1/2006

Time: 03:52:00 PM EST
Details: This launch was postponed to NO EARLIER THAN July 1 of 2006. A target date has not been set.

Wonder what that does to traffic to and from the port.

Deb

That would be so cool. Ok, it's been 5 years since our last cruise. Can we go on deck earlier than the drill or do we wait for the siren?

mattmommy, as I recall, you really can't see too much from the muster deck. It's been a few years since we cruised too, but I remember standing under a bunch of life boats.

But WOW, that WOULD be so cool if the shuttle launch actually occurred as we sailed away!!!! However, knowing the multiple delays that NASA always seems to go through, I wouldn't hold my breath . . .

OMG that would be so wonderful if it worked out that way! Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to see a launch! :cloud9: We talked in the past about trying to plan a Disney trip when a launch was scheduled, but you know they get postponed so easily........ I guess even with this, the chances are better that it WON'T occur on 7/1, than it will... :sad2:

Still, one can hope (Crossing fingers.........) :wizard: :wizard:

Seeing a launch would be fantastic! We had hoped to see one during our last visit to WDW in 2003, but it was delayed. :sad2: What a super thing for the kids to see! :Pinkbounc

We are down to 79 days! Wow, it's going fast now. :cool1: It has gone from spring to the middle of summer here. Shopping for shorts is no longer a stretch, we need them now! Mid to upper 80's the rest of the week. Where did spring go? I think I missed it. :confused3

Our final payments have finally been applied! Yippee! :woohoo:

Have we set a time or place for the meet? If we have, I missed it.

Patti

We missed spring here also! :confused3

I have not heard about a meet time/place yet?!?!
I will go ahead and do the DIS'ers list even though I've only heard from a few I think!
I'll add them as I receive more!
Email is LDB1030@sbcglobal.net

79 days???? :faint:

It seems like yesterday it was only 80 days away!

Ok, who has tuxes and pirate gear?

79 days was SO yesterday! :lmao: No tuxes here. :sad2: I'm having to arm wrestle my dh into a jacket! He looks so nice dressed up, but he's not crazy about doing it. His is about the only shopping I have left!

The girls got great news yesterday. As of right now, it looks like they will get their braces off right before the cruise, :woohoo: like 2 days before we leave! :lmao:

I finished my shoe shopping yesterday! I need 1 more pair for Sara, and we are completely done there. Then I guess it's on to swimsuits. :scared1:

It's going to hit 90 here today. We are in for a long, hot summer if we are having these kinds of temps in April! :cool1:

Hey Lisa - when is your Spring Game? Ours is Saturday. High in the mid 80's, and RAIN! :umbrella: I'm just excited for the season to start. What are they saying down there? How's the new coach doing? I'll be excited to see how your transition year goes. By the way, one of our former QB is now a graduate asst down there. He is catching all kinds of heat from up here. :rotfl2:
