has an extra refrigerator.....stays nice and cold on the OUTSIDE....could cool down your kitchen:cool1: :cool1: (but don't put food in it!:scared1: )

Wendy - shall I PM you my address for the cheesecake?:yay: :yay:

I'm not making light of the situation down south, believe me, just trying to get your mind off of it for awhile - that is what DIS friends are for!

We're home - no damage to the house - School is out until the 29th - 7 schools sustained major damage and power is still out in widespread areas. We only have some small branch clean up in the yard. We were truly fortunate!

Depends on who you ask :lmao: It's fine no obscene smells John threw everything out it's now all clean, pristine, and empty!

There isn't many perishables, meat, milk, etc in the area so, we iced down meat to bring home. John's firing up the smoker this weekend for a post-hurricane party with our friends. He also brought home lots of limes and mint for mojitos...

All is well!

I'm sure our Texans are busy cleaning up, hoping things improve real soon for them:grouphug:

OK, NOT everyone on our thread is from Texas...where is everyone:confused3
I finally turned off our air conditioner but now the allergies have come back (from spring) - I can't win:sad2:

Anyone wanna talk?

I'll talk!

I'm surprising two of my neices with tickets to HSM on Ice today! Has anyone taken their kiddos to it?

Someone to talk to Lucy!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
No, Krista, my BOYS are 22 and 16, don't think that will happen, BUT, let me tell you, when they were little, we always went to Hershey, PA to see Disney on Ice - it was a yearly thing for us and, of course, when they were younger, they were mesmerized (well, it was either the ice show or visiting the chocolate factory that mesmerized them:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: ).

DH and I are leaving on Wednesday for a three-day get-away.....i'm nervous (leaving the kids at home, but have much supervision) and excited (we never, EVER go away without at least one of the kids).
So, you ask, what the heck am I doing on the computer when I have so much to clean (always, always clean before I go away) - my answser?
the kids will be home, what is the use of cleaning!:scared1: :scared1:

Hey Krista,
Thought of this while I was signing off - the person coming over to our house to supervise, her name is Krysta!:rotfl: :cool1:

We're happpy to hear you're home and everything is ok.

Matthew and Leah still have no power. Good news- their roof had no damage. The roof shingles blew from somewhere else into their yard. There"s lots of yard cleanup for them, too and they're waiting for tree service to remove the large tree that fell. They also were very fortunate.

Not much ice out here in sub-saharan Africa - but I know my kids would LOVE that type of show!

DD has already picked out HSM3 as her theme for her 7th birthday party in October and is desperate for a Gabriella doll. And to think just a year or so ago, I didn't even know what HSM was... :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I've been wondering where everyone was, but didn't have much to add to the conversation, so have been lurking.

I went on a trip last week to the Western part of the country. It was beautiful and sad at the same time. The scenery was BREATHTAKING!!!!

But we also officially sponosored Iftaar dinners in two cities as part of our outreach to the Muslim community, and the kids were so hungry they literally dove into the food. Huge steaming bowls of rice were gone in seconds!

We visited schools and talked with local officials who couldn't provide school books or keep classes below 100 kids due to a lack of facilities, teachers, and budget. I visited a school library at a high school that enrolls almost 2000 students a year and the library (which houses all the school's textbooks as well as library books) was smaller than my living room! And it WASN'T FULL!!! For the entire Junior class - they had 20 English textbooks! And most had missing pages or pages falling out. And the practice dialogue I opened up to - was a conversation between two women about another mother who gives her baby beer in a bottle!!!!!!

It makes you so grateful for everything you have. :sad1:

What a beautiful picture! Yes, we certainly take thing for granted. I cannot imagine living like many of the people you mentioned do. I am truely fortunate!:flower3:

Anyone notice we're still in the 9 month range??

Matthew and Leah finally got power back yesterday. Matthew's office building is still closed. It might reopen on Sept. 29.
