Okay - so all you teachers out there are going to have to help me to understand this whole report card thing. My daughter's report card says absolutely nothing:

Language arts - 3 (out of 4 - has been a 3 all year) - no comments
Math - 3 (same as above)
Social Studies - 3 (same as above)
Science - 3 (same as above)

Very nice comments from her French, Music, and PE teachers though - but no grades.

I mean, I understand that she's just in 1st grade (oops, correction - now 2nd grade), but isn't there supposed to be some improvement or commentary?

There's one line that says she should start reading chapter books this summer to prepare for 2nd grade and that she's ready for 2nd grade.

I'll be the first to admit to being the nerdy kid in school who always worked to get 110% by answering all the bonus questions too - so how do you get a 4? And why is there no comment on reading and math, but comments in PE and Music? And what does a 3 mean anyway - is it a C? I guess I need a little context.:confused3

Ah, so you were the curve wrecker!!! :lmao:

Our kids were on a 4 pt scale in elementary grades- it was more of a mastery scale. 3 was a mastered objectives/performing at standard. 4 was above standard.

Then and now, the only report card comments were short phrases, if there were any, were "Well (or Not) prepared. contributes postively "missing or late assignments" Nothing concrete to improve. I guess they assume that if there were concerns, they would be communicated throughout the year.

Worked out at the Y yesterday, 1st time in a week. I made the mistake of stepping on the scale. DD has been baking cookies all week - Good but not helping....

I haven't exercised at all this week. I sold my old tennis shoes at the garage sale last week and last Sunday I went walking with a friend with some new shoes. I ended up with a blister the size of a nickel on the back of my foot. So no closed heel shoes for me this week! I'm afraid to get back on the scale!!!!:scared:

dd set me up on the wii fit on Friday, she had a good laugh - those balance tests are hard!!! It proclaimed me 7 years older and unbalanced... :lmao:

Ok....so I missed a pirate but I am sitting in Starbucks ALONE with a steamy cup of coffee and the local paper. Aaaaaaaahhhh....:surfweb:

Yep! Guilty as charged!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (well - until that college calc course...but we won't go there.:scared1:)

So I guess she's doing fine. Just would like to know a little more context. Everyone has weak and strong points - it would be nice to know what the teacher thinks those are. But with 13 kids - maybe that's too much to ask???:confused3

Well - from what I was able to find online - Brewers Bay and Cane Garden sound the best for families.

Brewers Bay if you like fewer people and snorkeling - but treacherous up & down hill road to get there. But only about 15 minutes from Road Town.

Cane Garden if you don't mind crowds and want to do more than just soak up the sun and swim. Slightly farther, but easier to get to.

So, I don't know what we'll end up doing. Wish there was an option for an earlier dolphin excursion...:sad2:

You may recall that my HS friend was on this cruise in May. He told me that his family's highlight of the cruise was your dolphin excursion.......so it sounds like it will be worth it!!!:dance3: Also, I think it's soldout!:woohoo:

Sounds cozy!!

I'm in my house, unpacking two of my DDs college crates......today I've found a beer bong, a bottle of wine, some chicken noodle soup and about .37 in change.......I've decided to take back all the appliances I've bought for them.;)

Just remember that there are teachers who have the "everyone's average unless they really impress me" attitude who grade conservatively.........

I understand how you feel, every mom wants to know that their child is special and hopefully the teacher gets that too.......yes, definitely have her read chapter books this summer!!!:teacher: I used to pay my children by the book to get them to read.......I know that sounds terrible but it works!!

Kelli/Noahsmom, am I remembering right that it is your son who plays lacrosse?

If not, this question is for who does have a son who plays lacrosse :)

Would your son be interested in a lacrosse team t-shirt swap?

Yes he does play lacrosse. What kind of t-shirt swap are you thinking about? His team doesn't have any t-shirts yet (it's very new to the area). But we can get lacrosse American t-shirts (that's the area sponsor). Or are you thinking college level?

Let me know, I'm sure he'd be interested.

Holy Cow! What a lot of activity for a Sunday morning! I got up and took Noah fishing. He caught nothing. Although he did catch a tree with his 1st cast. Lost his new bobber with that one. I also learned that my son uses the finger. We had a bit of a talk about that.

Now we are home, I'm going to relax for about an hour then we need to finalize packing for camp. Noah and our foster son are both going to camp, leaving this afternoon and returning Friday afternoon. They are both going to the same place but have different programs. Noah's is fishing (yes, he's addicted) and Makail is going to tepee camp.

Tonight Bill & I plan on walking down to the local restaurant, drink beer, have dinner, then walk home. Walking so it doesn't matter if the beers are going down really easy. :rolleyes1

JoAnn I'm very sorry for your loss. How horrible to have beaten cancer once just to have it return and to be so young (younger than me which is scary).

My DDs are looking forward to going trout fishing in the mountains outside Denver when we visit their great-grandmother this summer. I hope we can get up there - there's a great trout farm where the kids can fish and are guaranteed to catch something. My dad insists that that takes all the fun out of fishing - but until my 5 & 7 year olds can actually sit still for more than 15 minutes at a time - it's probably the best way to go.

I'm jealous of your night on the town! How great!!!!

Two girls have sleep overs tonight - but the baby is all ours - so no night out. :sad1:

BTW - we have main seating, but not sure your DS would enjoy dinner with three "baby" girls :scared:. :confused3

Last one!!!

Congratulations on the pirate:!

I really need to take a few minutes out of each day to read the posts because when I let it go a few days I feel overwhelmed :scared1::eek: So sorry to hear about your loss Joanne #1.

Can't wait to hear about the new menus.

Everyone have a great week. Hopefully it will be a week of good news!

Take care all!:grouphug:

We just got back from church..

Getting ready for summer school today....

Then ironing....

Then Perry's steakhouse at 4pm for their 19.79 special (3 course meal to celebrate their 30 year anniversary as a steakhouse)

Maybe posting later tonight?

Here's a picture from our fishing trip this morning. It was (and is) a beautiful day. You can see the state capital in the background to the left of Noah. He's fishing on lake Mendota.

Beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing.

Prayers to the secretary's family, friends, and school. Seems like this has been a rough month for a lot of us this cruise is definitely needed.

On a first grade report card i would imagine a 3 means she has mastered the necessary concepts during that period. There should be comments though our progress reports and report cards take up at least two pages as we write a lot of info.

We have main dining but for a variety of reasons are hoping to be able to sit by ourselves.

It is a beautiful sunny day here which has been rare lately back outside to enjoy it.
