Wow, I'm rather disappointed, sad and a feeling a bit guilty that I took that one by myself. I though for sure someone would sneak in, as always...

OK - Captain Solo...

Prayers and PD and everything else for the secretary's family and the school. There has been a lot of sadness in our DIS families' lives the past few weeks. :grouphug:

Now you come out to play!!! I feel like a little kid peering through the fence begging for the kids to be allowed to come out and play....:cool1:

You know, I was hovering but doing something else, so I decided to just check and you had just got it! I guess I'm a little psychic, but "too little too late!" I thought the other Joanne was also around!:goodvibes

Does anyone know if there's a decent - kid-friendly beach within a reasonable distance to the dock in Tortola. It doesn't have to be walking distance, but shouldn't be on the other side of the island. We have a mid-day 2 hour excursion (really screws up our day!) But I promised the girls, so I can't back out on it. Seems like such a waste to go all the way to Tortola and not see any beach.

Thanks!

The main one that I've heard of is Cane Garden Bay.......maybe someone else knows how far away it is.......I was there once and was told it's where Jimmy Buffit wrote "Margaritaville"......anyone else hear that?

Congrats to Monica!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

JoAnn #1: this tragedy hit me hard - didn't know your secretary, but as you know, I've been a secretary forever and older than she was.....
Yes, our DISers have had alot of sadness lately, and that is why this cruise can't come too soon:grouphug:

Monica: we also celebrated the report card...never thought Tyler would make the honor roll this quarter (laziness set in big time at the end of the year)...but he made it (by the skin of his teeth - but I'll take it):yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

so sorry to hear of all of you still in school:teacher::hug:

I'm SICK OF RAIN.....every day....I might as well be living in Florida, at least the rain only lasts about an hour....we've had rain every single day since I can remember....Tyler hasn't got alot of hours this summer at his summer job - at the pool.

Thanks everyone, I just found out late last night when I opened my work email........we had just collected money from our staff to buy her a laptop computer so she could communicate with her girls while she was getting treatments ........it would have been quite an ordeal.......count your blessings today.......:grouphug:

I tried mickeymo! I was flipping pancakes! congratulations!!

Yum, pancakes!!! They are a Dad specialty in this house. I'm not a traditional breakfast fan. I'm more of a heat up leftover pizza for breakfast kind of gal... So, consequently, the kids have learned to fend for themselves when it comes to breakfast. DD has learned how to make omelets from a friend, so she loves to fix those.

Congrats to Monica!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Thanks Lucy.........actually Florida right now is much more rainy than normal and TrayTray has had very little beach time........at least it's not hot yet (for those of us who are working w/o any air conditioning):teacher:

I'm assuming a lifeguard? I certify YMCA lifeguards! Although, I'm also the person who strikes fear in the lifeguards and Program Directors' hearts when I walk in the door. I conduct unannounced safety audits for the Houston Association of YMCAs. I wish I had the same influence over our neighborhood pool...:scared1:

kids got their report cards on Thursday, there was much rejoicing, after all my worry over Algebra, ds pulled out a B!!! :cool1:

Okay - so all you teachers out there are going to have to help me to understand this whole report card thing. My daughter's report card says absolutely nothing:

Language arts - 3 (out of 4 - has been a 3 all year) - no comments
Math - 3 (same as above)
Social Studies - 3 (same as above)
Science - 3 (same as above)

Very nice comments from her French, Music, and PE teachers though - but no grades.

I mean, I understand that she's just in 1st grade (oops, correction - now 2nd grade), but isn't there supposed to be some improvement or commentary?

There's one line that says she should start reading chapter books this summer to prepare for 2nd grade and that she's ready for 2nd grade.

I'll be the first to admit to being the nerdy kid in school who always worked to get 110% by answering all the bonus questions too - so how do you get a 4? And why is there no comment on reading and math, but comments in PE and Music? And what does a 3 mean anyway - is it a C? I guess I need a little context.:confused3

Don't know about the Tortola beaches- I'd be interested too - my brother and his wife are just playing the ports by ear so, I'm feeding them (hopefully) useful information when I can find it.

I wonder if Cruise Critic has more information?

Well - from what I was able to find online - Brewers Bay and Cane Garden sound the best for families.

Brewers Bay if you like fewer people and snorkeling - but treacherous up & down hill road to get there. But only about 15 minutes from Road Town.

Cane Garden if you don't mind crowds and want to do more than just soak up the sun and swim. Slightly farther, but easier to get to.

So, I don't know what we'll end up doing. Wish there was an option for an earlier dolphin excursion...:sad2:
