I've not looked at that excursion so I don't have any info.

Everybody,

As I understand, but I am new to this, you all arranged a meeting on the ship. Is that correct? But is everybody invited ? Or is it impolite to ask this ?

I'll hope to hear from you fellow-Disney Fans !

Hi all
Like so many others, we're off on the 18th July Med cruise. me & my partner Jill will be flying from our home in England on the 16th for a couple of days in Barca first.

Is there anywhere on here we can join / find a list of others sailing on the same cruise?

Cheers

Shaun Finnie

YES! Everyone here on the disboards is invited. We get together so we can match up names and faces. It is alot of fun. We are meeting one hour before the lifeboat drill in the Promenade Lounge!

And, of course, ask any questions you are wanting answers to, between all of us, someone usually has the answer or knows where to go to find it! Welcome aboard!

Yes, just post your first names and ages (if you want) and your stateroom number on your next post and it will Magically :wizard: appear on the master list on page 1, post #1!

Welcome aboard!

I've been catching up on all the posts from the past few days. You guys have been busy. Our cruise docs arrived today and ditto the sentiment about the lack of pizazz in document presentation. I remember back when we went on an inaugural sailing on the Magic, how impressed we all were with the documents. :goodvibes Even the docs for one of the DVC member cruises were fancier than these. Like Linda mentioned, everything is done online now, so really nothing for the cruise lines to waste their money printing.

After reading some of the blogs from the 11 night just ended, I am reconsidering Villefranche and Marseille excursions. Have contacted Revelation tours in Villefranche. They will match you up with other cruisers interested in doing a private tour. :grouphug: If anybody else is looking to do a private excursion in VF please don't hesitate to PM me and maybe we can decide on a mutual tour. It sounds like VF can either be a docked port or a tender port. Guess it depends on how many ships are there the day we are.

I get the impression that Marseille is a docked port, so that makes me think I might cancel my DCL tour and maybe we'll just do our own thing. (Sleep? :lmao: )

I have started putting our cruise clothes on the bed in the extra bedroom, picked up another outfit for myself too. I just need to decide on my evening/formal/semi-formal/pirate clothes now. :pirate: Also picked up our Euros from the bank today. DH is charging our international cell phone and is supposed to call our health insurance company to double check things with them. :confused3

So it sounds like we will be exchanging our DIS board gifts at the meeting prior to the safety drill huh? Fine with me. Oh, and we don't have any food allergies either. (except for SEE food :lmao: ) Did you all know that you don't gain weight on a cruise, the salt water shrinks your clothes! :rotfl:

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sandy

We are still trying to decide what to do also. We are traveling with our dd Jamie (15), we have a DCL excursion booked right now, but are thinking of cancelling.

For those of you that had a Gty cabin status, when did you receive your cabin assignment ? Was anyone upgraded ? Thanks and excuse me for butting in, we're on the Aug 8 med cruise. :rolleyes1

Usually, cabin assignments are given 30 days prior at the latest. You should check the DCL website and when your stateroom is assigned, it will show on your reservation. We had a GTY 11 for this cruise and we DID NOT get upgraded. Also, last minute room changes are possible because during the current sailing if there is a mechanical or cosmetic problem with the room they will block it out for the next cruise. So invariably, a couple of staterooms will get changed the last week before the cruise.

yeah, but of course nobody will cancel this.. So I think I must forget about this fantastic trip.. We really were looking forward to it, me and my son..

By the way : is it neccesary to bring a suit ? Or is it always just casual clothing, even for dinner ? :laundy:

Greetings , Tiems

There is one formal night on the cruise. The rest are either semi-formal or casual. There will be many cruisers that will not haul their suit all the way across the continent to wear it for one formal night (unless their wife insists!). I think a tie and nice shirt and pants works fine for formal night. But there will be some that won't even wear a tie. So my suggestion to you is wear what is comfortable for you. However, if you are planning on going to Palo's make sure to bring a shirt and tie.

Hi -

Has anyone else signed up for this excursion or seen anything about out. Still sifting through the options.

Also, how does one send private messages?

Wendy

I haven't heard anything about the excursion you asked about Wendy. You might want to read through the thread on the main page where everyone is posting information about Med. excursions. You could ask there. Someone may post a response.

Welcome to the new cruisers who joined our merry group today and yesterday! So nice to see you all here!

Regarding excursions, only a portion of them are allocated to be selected via internet prior to the cruise. Upon boarding the ship if you head to the Shore Excursions Desk near Guest Services, they will be able to sign you up if there is still space. I believe they can also run a waiting list in case of any cancellations and then they would notify you via your stateroom phone.

I will have to check this switch in port days further when I get home from work. I know we have Palo booked for one of those days, I think the Pirate night actually, so we now will miss a semi formal night.

Speaking of semi and formal night, my DH will not be bringing a tux nor a suit. He will have nice slacks, dress shirt and tie, however. Many of the guys remove their jackets anyway, so I do not think it will be a problem.

Talk to you folks later tonight!

That's the same for my DH. He took his suit when we sailed the first time, but this time he doesn't want to take it and I said fine - he'll still be nice and neat and I'll have more room for souvenirs :rotfl:

Sharper-fin (Shaun) - welcome to the thread! Jump right in to get to know us, your fellow-travelers! Some of us have been here since day 1 (aka April 4th when the bookings began) and others have just joined us in recent days. I added you and Jill to the "Who's Sailing" list (see the link from the first page), so if you want to add your cabin number or other information, either PM me or just post it here and I'll add it to the list.

I'll make another separate post for the Meet and link it in the first post as well.

Come one, come all! Participate in the tradition and spirit of the DIS Boards by joining us for our DIS Meet scheduled for one hour before the safety / lifeboat drill on Wednesday, July 18th, in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3.

The purpose of the Meet is to put faces and names to the DISers and their families that we've come to know during all the planning and anticipation of our long-awaited, much anticipated vacation! We've shared in counting-down months and weeks, holding breaths and crossing fingers for Palo bookings, and examining excursions with excruciating detail. Now is the time for fun and frivolity because all of our planning will have come to fruition!

Some DISers have planned to bring small trinkets, favors or gifts for our fellow-DIS-travelers. This is OPTIONAL and the DISers that are bringing things are bringing things for all the families, so please come whether you bring anything or not, and don't feel obligated to bring something besides a warm greeting and a smiling face! We want to get to know each other and have familiar faces to greet around the ship and in the ports.

How the meet will work: Just come to the designated meeting place and introduce yourself to the rest of the gang by your DIS name and your real name. We'll hang out until about 15 minutes before the safety drill to give everyone time to go back to your cabin to get your life vest. Come and stay as long as you like - or feel free to dash off for more fun and sun! Either way, we look forward to greeting all of you in person!

Ok, thank yuo all for the answer of the clothing and for the invitation to meet you all. We'll try to be there as well !

I understand it would be nice to bring something, a small gift from our home-country , is that correct ? We are already looking for something nice, and I think we found just the right thing. I hope you know Holland a little bit ? Nothing illegal by the way (LOL :goodvibes )

Questions for this one ..
- are there also big towels on the ship, or should we bring them? You know, the very big towels after swimming, to put on your chair if you want to lie down.

- Is this a misunderstanding or not ? I always thought American people did not have a lot of vacation days ? If I see the incredible list of vacations some of you already had, it makes me glad to see people are really enjoying themselves ! I thought we were big Disney fans !! (we were about 8 times in Disney Paris, 2 times in Disney world, even got married in the Wilderness lodge in October 1996, but that's all...). Of course, I am a medical doctor, so I do not have that many vacation, but how about you all ?

Really nice also to meet people from other country's !

- By the way , I made a mistake, we will be in state room 2136.. (Not 2163, sorry). I am also curious to see some other rooms. What exactly is the difference in real. I know the difference from disney.com, but those are small movies / picture. I noticed someone is staying in 8100. That must be a very nice room !!
Again,

greetings, hoping to hear from you.
Hans Tiems

That's right, some folks are - just a nice token and memory. What's so very cool about this trip is that there are people sailing from all over. So many times, Disney cruises are mostly Americans, so I'm excited to meet people from other countries!

- Is this a misunderstanding or not ? I always thought American people did not have a lot of vacation days ?

No, you're right - we don't get as many vacation days as Europeans traditionally do. We live about 4 1/2 hours away from Walt Disney World in Florida, so we can take more trips than if we lived further away. And we save our vacation days so we can take big trips like this one - I won't have but one vacation day left when we get back, but I'll be earning credit towards more each week.

I got you fixed on the list :) I know some of the previous cruises have tried to set up "cabin tours" so that folks could see inside various categories.

Hans Tiems

I do not take towels with me, I use DCL towels as these are provided on board for use at the swimming pools (as many towels as you need) and if you need towels for any excursions eg beach day they are available to take off the ship, so no there is no need to bring towels leaving you more room for other packing essentials :rotfl2: .

If you have any other questions just ask as I am sure someone will have the answer.

Hope you can make it to the meet and greet as it will great to put faces to the names we have become familiar with over these last few months.

Andrea

Hello to all of the new posters! I'm excited to see so many people on the DIS will be on our ship. This will be my 6th Disney cruise and I don't think there has ever been this many DISers on my ship!

Americans definitely don't get as many vacation days as Europeans as stated before. I am a teacher so I have the summer to enjoy myself without having to worry about a substitute or grading. Horray! Nothing beats a trip without having to worry about work left at home. :cool1:

Talk to you all later!

I
had to laugh at your question. American's probably get less vacation days but where I work, we are also sort of obsessed with NOT taking them, at least all at one time. :guilty: People are in shock that I am taking 2 full weeks and....hold your hat....NOT taking my computer to check email. Will I leave the blackberry at home is the question :rolleyes1

Looking forward to meeting you -

Traveling w/DD Sarah age 11 (and a half)

I get 4 weeks vacation a year. But I rolled forward one week from last year. However, after this trip, I have just about used all I have. (However, I accrue every pay period, so I'll have enough for my next WDW trip and cruise in October!)

The transatlantic in May and this one have wiped me out!

My work also doesn't like me gone for two weeks at a time, but they have come to learn to "LIVE WITH IT".

:rotfl:

Welcome to everbody new! We got our Cruise Docs this afternoon. Nothing real exciting but nice to have them it means the cruise is really close. I can't wait to meet all of ya'll.
Being a teacher we get more vacation time than I think anyone in the US. We also get paid way less than most people at least here in NC. My brother is a chef and he usually gets very little vacation time. The only reason he has this summer off is he is in culinary school at the moment otherwise he would not be with us. Sixteen more days until we leave for barcelona :woohoo:

Welcome, Welcome[, Welcome to all the new folks! I have gotten a lot done the last two days for the cruise. I called all of our banks and cc companies to inform them of our travel dates, typed out important phone #'s we may need, did some shopping, canceled newspaper service, and worked on compiling all of our travel parties flight info. for my travel book. Phew! I am making a booklet that will be bound for each family with our itinerarys, journal pages, flight info, packing lists, etc. They think I am silly but it helps me get organized. I am trying to find a map of the ship that I can copy/paste to put into my book too. No luck so far.

By the way, is anyone doing Pisa on their own? My 6 year old is telling me that he wants to go see the leaning tower. We hadn't planned on him coming, we are signed up for the 1/2 day pisa disney excursion. But I think I would rather go on our own if we are bringing the kids. I just think they are going to be wiped out after Rome, so I don't want to overdo it. If we go on our own we can go a little later and not stay as long. However, I am a little nervous taking the train on our own since we don't speak any italian. Any ideas??? Have a great night, Kathleen /FONT],
