July 18, 2007 07-18-07 Med Cruise

Woo-Hoo site finally came up. DCL is glad becasue now I will stop bugging them with phone calls. Booked excursions got all but two of the ones we wanted. We wanted to do the Eternal Rome tour but no availabilities and we wanted to do Florence and Pisa but there was not enough space for all three of us. I think there was like only one spot left. Could not get anything at Palo even though they said reservations were available. Well check back later on that.

Excursions:
Palermo and Ballaro Market
Pompeii, Sorrento, and Capri for families
A walk through Renaissance Roem
Discovering Florence
Monaco, Monte Carlo, and Eze

I'm now going to go take a nap.
Lissa:tinker:

Well, we got us all on the Rome On Your Own Tour, and the Sights of Palermo. But my parents couldn't get VIP Pisa, and there was onl one space on Florence and Pisa... So we went with Pisa for them, and Discovering Florence for us.

All in all though, fairly easy.

There were noooooo Palo ressies available for 5 of us. Only dinner for two on embarkation day. Am I right in thinking that we may be able to get one once we get on the boat?

Cross your fingers for me

Yes, You will get it when You all get on the boat. I am sure about it. But keep checking on internet as most people might cancel it so keep eye on it, if not, can booking on the cruise.pixiedust:

I have booking high tea at palo.

Scottishwee35

Cool, I'll try again when we get on the boat then. Given that there are 10 nights to choose from I can't see that it would be that hard to find an opening...

I'm feeling quite happy today. Glad to have got the madness of booking over with, even if it did take 15 hours!!!

Milia

Okay excursions are booked online check in is done can we pack and go now? I'm not sure I'm going to be able to wait until July. Guess I have no choice though. In a much better mood today now that everything is taking care of.
Lissa:tinker:

I am so sorry that you all had problems with the computer. I would have been so upset! Glad that you guys were able to book most of what you want. :cool1:

Keep checking the disney website every few days, because there will be a number of cancellations and changes over the next few months, I bet.

We are really getting excited because we leave for Europe 2 months from tomorrow. Now I can really start making lists and plans.

I'm sure it has been posted before, but when is Pirate Night and the formal and semi formal nights? I seem to have forgotten!!

I'm travelling with my parents and family. We have two cabins. We're previous Disney cruisers and my parents are "newbies." So I can tell you that at least Disney is listening to some feedback, as the excursion booking process has improved DRAMATICLLY just in the few months I've been researching for this particular Med cruise.

From other forums, I had heard that once you booked an excursion, you could no longer see ANY excursions for that port. Now, on the site, you can book one excursion, see the others, select one, but then the system prompts you to cancel the first one before you can confirm the new one. MUCH better. Now they just have to figure out that you can do TWO excursions at one port - morning and afternoon (or evening in the case of Villefranche-Sur-Mer).

Hope all is going well for our fellow cruisers, we're in process of buying the multi-purpose layering clothes so that we can meet the 20 Kilo weight limit on the European flights - yikes!

One tip I got from one of my UK friends... For Rome, the train takes about an hour, but traffic is so bad that the tour buses take about 2 hours to get to the city. So to maximize time there, it's better to do on your own.

And then, the last tip. If you want to climb the tower at Pisa, there is a website to buy tickets in advance, they only allow 30 people per hour. You can book 45 days in advance. I don't have the link with me, but you can google it.

We were able to get the excursions we wanted and Palo reservations as well. But we paid the price in terms of sleep - I did the midnight bookings for our group at the 90 and 75 day marks. Imagine my frustration when Disney had the system problems this week - I thought my parents had screwed up their reservation somehow, so after about 15 minutes I went to bed. So, I was actually GLAD to hear there were system problems because at least we were all in the same situation...

One question for my fellow repeat cruisers. On the first night (embarkation) in Barcelona, is that our first night of rotation / regular dining? I can't remember. I booked my parents at Palo for 6:30 that first night, but I'm thinking that they probably don't want to miss the first night of regular dining to meet folks?!?

And finally - since there are so many port days, I'm guessing that Disney isn't doing anything too special in terms of activities on the ship? I rememeber on the Panama 2005 they had the Disney master sommelier on board for special wine tastings. THAT WAS GREAT! Plus special performers, art auctions, etc. I guess we can check out the Cruise Meets for the initial Med sailings and see what folks have to report...

See you SOON!

I'm sure it has been posted before, but when is Pirate Night and the formal and semi formal nights? I seem to have forgotten!!

Just wanted to say Happy Sunday Ya'll. The sun has come back out and it is going to be another warm day here. Getting ready to head to the pool.
Lissa:tinker:

We could only book the late dining but we need the early dining. We're traveling with our 2-year-old daughter & will never be able to go to any of the dinners at 8PM or later. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

No brunch. No high tea. No dinner. Nothing. Anyone else?

Hi

Keep looking and if nothing, can booking it when you all are on the cruise on first day. Go to guest services and ask where to booking the palo as they do keep half of it in the Cruise as most people who don't have internet to book it.

I am sure that you will get it while you are on the Cruise.:thumbsup2

Scottishwee35:surfweb:

Made the mistake of adding up the cost of the shore excursions. EEEKKKK:eek: Never should have done that. Oh well it's only money and this is probable the only time my family will ever travel overseas. So in my mind it is worth it. Hope everybody is having a good day.

Lissa:tinker:

Aye, I know that same with us as 4 of us:scared1: I am sure that you will enjoy the excursions!!

My brother in law arrived North Carolina last Sunday as he was there last year and love it and went back for 4 months. He was attending for university but now he is staying with his friend.

Are y come from North Carolina? My mother in law was asking me what part you live in?

Scottishwee35:thumbsup2

Yeah we are in North carolina. Specifically in Asheville which is in the mountains in the western part of the state.
Lissa:tinker:

Quick question. Does anybody know if there is a beach in Sardinia that is near the port? We would like to spend an hour or two at a beach but did not want to book an excursion. That way when we are ready to head back we can and are not stuck there all day.
Lissa:tinker:

Hi Everybody

Hope you are well!!

Today I was reading the forum and see the 'Mediterrenean Execursions' and saw the someone mention that

(Gothic City Walk Tour

FYI ... I just got a note from my TA that DCL has cancelled the Gothic City Walk tour due to "Tour Operator Issues"

ETA - Just got the phone with DCL and the Chocolate Museum and Aquarium and Park Guell tours in Barcelona have also been cancelled.)

Andrea

Have you heard anything about it?

And I am thinking to book Palmero for kids?? I have been looking at excursions and see that at the morning was full booking and but it available in the afternoon only so I am thinking about it as think good fun for our kids? Anyone advise - should I book it or not?

Anyway, had everybody see the forum of med Teaser? Look good and I copy it and show below.

Disney Cruise Line Adds Pizzazz with New Shows, Parties,
Excursions and Activities for First Mediterranean Sailings

CELEBRATION, Fla. -- When the Disney Magic crosses the "pond" for its first-ever Mediterranean sailings, deck parties will pop, new shows will "wow," on-board activities, including food and beverage, will feature European flair, and port excursions will be studded with special Disney touches.

New deck parties will create a carnival-like atmosphere while lavishly produced Broadway-style shows bring original stories and special effects to the ship's opulent Walt Disney Theatre. Activities for children 3-17 will range from crêpe-making en route to Marseilles to mosaic-designing on the way to Barcelona. Excursions at all the ports will feature special extras exclusive to the Disney cruise experience, such as scavenger and treasure hunts for children.

"It was important to add new surprises for our guests during our first-ever European adventure," says Jim Urry, director of entertainment for Disney Cruise Line. "We looked for creative ways to showcase the international flavor of our destinations through onboard and excursion activities allowing the entire family to become immersed in the Mediterranean experience."

Entertainment

Disney Cruise Line guests will enjoy three new theater productions and several festive deck parties debuting just for guests who embark on the summer's 10- and 11-night cruises to ports in Spain, Italy and France. Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre include:

"Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic" (55 minutes) -- This enhancement of one of the ship's most popular stage shows tells the story of a young girl who learns about the power of dreams. Technical advancements, laser and pyrotechnic effects, plus the first-ever appearance of Timon and Pumbaa on a Disney cruise ship, add fresh fun to the performance.

"When Mickey Dreams" (50 minutes) -- Mickey Mouse's dreams come to life in this musical spectacle guided by a cast of Cirque-like "dream seekers." The show's unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills.

"Disney's The Art of the Story" (50 minutes) -- This celebration of storytelling's magic features more than 20 performers, Disney characters from Mulan to Tarzan and a variety of production numbers from classic Disney films including "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King."

"On the Nose" (50 minutes) -- Everyone in the audience can win prizes grand and small during this original game show based on Disney trivia. Dubbed "On the Nose" because every question -- from Disney film trivia to theme-park factoids -- has a number-type answer, the show gives points to audience teams that get the answer "on the nose."

Meanwhile, up on deck, guests will enjoy several new high-energy deck parties:

Sail-Away Party -- New music, performers and Disney characters add up to a festive new deck party infused with the excitement of each Mediterranean sailing and other exciting journeys to exotic ports of call.

Mouse2O -- Hula hoops, bubbles and beach-party dances kick off this afternoon deck party for guests of all ages. Refreshments are served, and guests have a cameo on the big outdoor screen, where Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters keep the party rolling with regular appearances and songs.

Party Paradiso -- Disney Cruise Line celebrates its summer in the Mediterranean with a unique deck party held one night each cruise. With the help of special effects designed to light up the night, Disney characters and performers help keep the spirit of fun and adventure alive as guests prepare to explore new horizons.

In addition, guests will find other activities with a Mediterranean flair. For instance, throughout the voyage, guests will be able to catch European-themed films in several venues throughout the ship. Families might enjoy watching "The Chronicles of Narnia" or "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" on the jumbo screen while lounging by the Goofy pool. Guests might enjoy some time out of the sun watching "Casino Royale" or "Moulin Rouge" in the plush Buena Vista Theatre or even "Casablanca" or "Under the Tuscan Sun" on their stateroom television.

Youth Activities

Disney Cruise Line has taken extra care to make sure that the Mediterranean cruises are fun for the entire family. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including:

Crêpe-making on the way to Marseilles, France
Puppet-crafting en route to Palermo, Sicily
Pizza-baking before reaching Naples, Italy
Mosaic tile-making while sailing toward Barcelona, Spain

Youth counselors will weave the cultures of the ship's destinations into many of the children's activities. On the sports deck, games will include soccer, pentanque -- a European ball game created in the early 1900s -- and gladiator training for older children.

Food and Beverage

Inspired by the spices and flavors of the region, the chefs aboard Disney Cruise Line have prepared a great line of regional specialties, offering guests a chance to discover local tastes of the Mediterranean. Each night, the executive chef will hand-pick a selection of dishes influenced by the regions visited during the voyage, such as cannelloni in Italy or bouillabaisse in France. The chefs in Palo, Disney's Italian-influenced, adults-only restaurant, are inspired by the restaurant's return to its roots, and will prepare regional specialties each evening.

Adult guests will also be able to enjoy the tastes of the Mediterranean with an enhanced wine list featuring labels from some local vineyards. Disney sommeliers have tastefully chosen regional wines to accompany the unique menu offerings. A new Wine and Dine menu will have a special focus on "Old World" wines while still offering a great variety of wines from the rest of the world. In addition, wines from Spain, Italy and France will be used to enhance the popular wine seminars on the ship.

Shore Excursions

Disney Cruise Line offers shore excursions designed with the entire family in mind -- and the Mediterranean cruises will be no different.

The Lucca Treasure Hunt in the ancient city of Lucca near the port of La Spezia, Italy, offers riddles and clues to treasure found at various stations located near the main sights and monuments of Lucca.

During a visit to the port of Civitavecchia, the Narnia tour delivers guests to the medieval Italian village Narni, where author C.S. Lewis was inspired to pen his timeless masterpiece, The Chronicles of Narnia.

In Palermo, children of all ages will love the Palermo for Kids tour which includes a city tour complete with stops at the Ceramic's Laboratory, where kids can paint clay and create their own souvenir, and the Little Theatre, where everyone will enjoy a 30-minute marionette show.

For more sophisticated tastes, Disney Cruise Line offers a tour of Rome and Vatican that includes an exclusive private tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums. For thrill seekers, the Ferrari Adventure at Villa Peyrano provides guests 21 years of age and older an opportunity to sit behind the wheel and drive the famed Italian sports car.

Guests interested in booking a Mediterranean cruise to Europe with Disney Cruise Line should call 888/DCL-2500, visit disneycruise.com or contact their travel agent.
