Just a few more odds and ends around the house, load the car, wake up the kids and off we go.

You all have safe travels and we'll see you mateys on board.

The bills are just to use on board: never in the ports of call. Just remember that tipping is absolutely not usual in Europe, in most of the prices you'll pay the tips are included.

Welcome to the "newbies"....glad to see that Mom and I are not the newest on this board....sure wish I had discovered this board sooner but "live and learn".

ABOUT TIPPING
Here in the states, we tip the tour guides on excursions, do we do the same on our European excursions?

re: tipping tour guides in Europe.... The last time we were in Italy (2001) we took a few day excursions and yes, tipping was appropriate..... We also tipped while in Ireland....so I would assume we'd do so here also...perhaps DCL could advise????

We were starting to load the car this morning when Nathan (our 11 y.o.) asked me for a rubberband. He had lost a tooth and put it in a tissue and wanted a rubberband to keep it from getting lost. So the Tooth Fairy will have to dig deep in my backpack tonight to make a visit for him -- she brings Disney Dollars, don't you know?!!!

I knew the tooth was really loose - I figured it would come out mid-flight where it was inconvenient to be able to rinse his mouth, etc. Though he does have another one that is pretty loose and I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out while we're on the ship.

Well, we are just about headed out. 30 minutes til we leave for the airport and I need to go dry my hair and add personal stuff to luggage.

I hae a blog for the vacation in case anyone is interested. Hopefully, I can keep posting through the trip:

SEA U IN BARCELONA!

:hippie:

Good morning all! I hope everyone traveling today arrives safely at their destinations.. We are heading out tomorrow flying to Barcelona via Zurich Switzerland. Should be most interesting.

I finished up work yesterday - I am actually now officially done there and will be doing a job search upon my return from the cruise. Today will be the odds and ends day. Have to get a manicure, taking my mother to breakfast, leaving instructions for her regarding the house and dog and of course placing the final items into the suitcases. John has not started packing yet though lol. He is fast and will do it later today.

Its a bit overcast here in Chicago today, but we are expecting a sunny and pleasant day tomorrow for traveling which is nice. Will check in here later on today.

Tell Retha that the cruise staff does a "Singles" lunch that is very popular with the young adults on the cruise. It will be listed in the Navigator. There is also a group that gets involved in the pub challenges that is quite active, and of course, the young one's seem to close down Beat Street each night on the cruise. I'm sure she'll have a great time!

Thanks, I'll be sure to let her know. I'm sure that there will be plenty for her to do :)

Bon voyage to all of you leaving! As CarolAnnC stated, we are leaving tomorrow. I need to just put a few more things in my bags, weigh them, and I'm all ready! I have so many books, cross word puzzles, word searches, head phones, and Tylenol pm I should be all set for the looong flight. This will be the longest flight I have ever been on, although I have been on 19 hour long car rides, so I think I should be able to handle this one...and no road traffic!

Everybody that is leaving have a safe trip. We do not leave until Monday afternoon so still have a little bit of time left. We have not packed any clothing yet tomorrow is going to be insane. Oh well that is all part of the fun. See ya'll on Wednesday.

So exciting to read about everybody who has begun their vacation.

My shopping is done (I hope) and now I'm doing laundry and setting out what to pack. On Monday, I'm driving down to Richmond, VA, to pick up Mom and bring her up to NVa to my house to spend the night. Mom was fretting about her animals, but she has great people to take care of them and they have assured her that they will be fine, so she is now getting excited about her trip.

Then on Tues, 17th, my cat goes to the "cat hotel" and we head to a friend's house in Fairfax to meet the cab to Dulles airport (friend is in Florida so can't take us). The cab ride is half the price from her house so we just leave my car in front of her house on a quiet cul-da-sac. We board the plane in the evening and I've got Tylenol PM to help me sleep on board so, hopefully, I'll be halfway refreshed to make our dash to the ship and meet everybody one hour before the drill.

I never worry when I'm traveling to my destination as the adrenalin always kicks in because of the excitement of being in a new place. It's coming home when I crash, but luckily, I'm a teacher, so I don't have to be back at work.

See everybody soon!:cheer2: :dance3: :yay:  pirate: :flower3: :wave2: :beach: :rockband:

Just got back from getting my mani/pedi and it is starting to feel official that we will be off very soon. This is the last night to sleep at home before the airplane is our temporary lodging then Barcelona! Ole! :woohoo:

It is good to hear that everyone is getting ready, I have to admit that I am jealous of those of you who have already started their vacations! Tuesday can't come fast enough. I am so ready to go.

My dh and I got our travel books finally finished today. We went to Kinkos and got them bound. (I made booklets for us and our extended family that includes, flight info, excursion info. etc) It was fun to make but a lot of work.

Tommorow after church we are going to clean the house and make sure we have all our packing done. I keep feeling like we are forgetting something. But not sure what. Talk to you later!!!

Yes it sure is great to hear some of us starting their vacations. I really am jealous. Still have to work on Monday. Tomorrow (Sunday) is my last day to get ready.

DH and I went to an auction today. It was really cool. We got a lot of nice things and nothing over $20.

Went to a co-workers grandson birthday party and have to go to another one tomorrow in Vegas. :bday: party:

Did a little more packing today. Going to put some laundry in :laundy: and sit down and watch a movie.

For anyone leaving tomorrow, have a safe trip and we will see you on Wednesday!!

OK, who's left? Our numbers are seriously dwindling now. And I know I won't be the last to leave.

I'ts early Sunday morning. The bags are packed and have been moved downstairs ready. Hand luggage is almost done. We've just got to throw the last of the hand luggage in and that's it. One final visit to my mum today and we're done, ready to drive to Leeds / Bradford airport in the morning. One fun thing today - sit down with my dad and his big old atlas and go through the route with him. It's something we do before every holiday, he likes to "travel by map" with us. Isn't it funny how families have their own rituals?

We got a letter from DCL yesterday explaining about the switch of the Marseilles / Villefranche days. DId you guys all get one of those?

Oh, and I shaved my chin yesterday! My eyebrows are still lush though (we'll leave it there...)

Shaun

We are still here! But only for 6 more hours! Our limo will be picking us up around 3:30 pm Chicago time and heading for O'Hare Airport.

I spoke with SWISS airlines the other day and they recommend arriving at the airport 3 hours prior to departure so good thing we are getting an early start.

Bags are all packed, youngest DD Jen still putting the finishing touches on hers however lol. Going to organize purse and carryon in a little bit here. Already showered and clothes are laid out to wear.

I started to pack so early that now I am second guessing myself. I am sitting here wondering, did I take such and such? Oh well. I am sure everything is in order.

Watched a really old movie last night - Gidget Goes to Rome. Very corny and outdated, but we saw some nice shots of Rome and the famous sights.

I also have Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn but that one will have to wait till we return.

Have to do one more quick cleaning in the kitchen then the house will be all set. We are all so excited here! Can't forget the camera, but still undecided about taking the video camera. So much baggage to lug around already, but the film would be wonderful to have.

Anyway, I will check in again before we leave..Happy Sunday everyone!

Hi Shaun - Im still here. I will not be leaving until Tuesday morning. I am probably the last to leave :rotfl2:

I have another birthday :cake: party to go to today in Las Vegas and will do a little more shopping. And yes get my eyebrows done!!

I will try to finalize luggage today and I have work tomorrow.

My sister, BIN, parents and nieces are all leaving tomorrow morning and they are staying at the Grand Marina Tuesday night. We will meet up with them at the ship. :boat:

I called the TSA and they stated that magnets can be brought onboard, so I think I will carry my signs with me. :woohoo:

For anyone leaving today, Have a safe trip and see you on the MAGIC!!!

Hi Carol, How exciting? Wish it was me leaving. Oh well really I only have tomorrow as we leave my home around 5am to get to the airport on Tuesday.

My daughter wants the new HS Musical CD when it comes out on Tuesday, so we will probably will be making a midnight run on Monday/Tuesday and then the kids will not be able to sleep.

Have a safe flight and see you on the MAGIC!! :boat:

I'm still here. We don't leave out of here until tomorrow afternoon and then it is a red eye to Barcelona. Still have some packing to do but will finish that today. I can not believe the trip is finally here. After a year of planning and changing plans and worrying all that is left to do is relax and enjoy the trip. It's a little like christmas morning your glad it's here but sad that you know it will be over all to soon. I'll try and check in before we leave. See all of ya'll on Wed. on the ship! :cool1: :yay: :woohoo: party: :jumping1:
