July 18, 2007 07-18-07 Med Cruise

Hi all,

We actually have chosen all DCL excursions for our port days. I looked into the private excursions and just could not justify the increase in costs. Plus, I need the security of knowing the ship won't leave without us, lol.

Thinking of changing Marseilles, however. Other than that we are status quo...

Susan - WELCOME! Do you all have your cabin assignment? Are you late or early dining? What excursions are you planning?

Checked the website and we have our cabin assignments now! We had guarantee 6 and guarantee 11 and that is what we have been assigned.

So happy as we actually prefer our cabins near each other, rather than an upgrade for one and on another deck.

So excited! I ordered a few items from LLBean online last night. They have great stuff! I ordered the family size personal organizer, a hidden pouch to carry passports under my clothing, and some swim shorts.

Getting closer and getting more and more excited for the trip. Hope you all have a great Monday!

I'm looking at the Navigator's now :surfweb: (well, not right now because I'm typing this to the board!)

We also cancelled Florence and Pisa and booked Pisa for the afternoon as we could not get the morning slot. But I think that it will be fine because we'll not have to get up and out that morning and can be leisurely on the ship until lunch. Or perhaps explore the immediate port area on our own - not sure what's right there - guess I need to look to find out.

Someone on the main board suggested for the travel toilet paper to just let your own rolls get low and save the small rolls for the trip. I thought that was a great idea. We're going to Target tonight so I'll look for the Charmin on the Go and decide what i'm going to do.

I'm so excited because I found some zip-off pants for the boys which will be particularly useful for our day in Rome - they can wear shorts until we get to the Vatican and then they can "zip on" the bottoms to have their knees covered. I also found a couple of pairs of pants that hopefully they will not outgrow in a month's time - if they do, well, I'm keeping the tags on until about a week before the trip so I can return them if I need to for the next size. They are spending this week with my parents which means they will probably gain a few pounds as my mom makes sure they eat well.

In the meanwhile, i'm down 7 1/2 lbs and hope to lose a couple more before we go. I told DH that all of my cruise clothes fit me right now and comfortably, but if I were to lose another few, that would give me room for the trip home (hee hee). My friend told me to pack the loose clothing for the last few days!

Hi Everyone!
We got back from WDW late last night. We had a great time even though it was blazing hot and I was/am sick.
Cindy we are on the same flight going and coming. Right now we are booked for 3 middle seats in an emergency row for both flights but my brother is a big guy and we may upgrade to business using FF points. It would great if we could meet at the gate in Atlanta.
Can't wait to meet everybody soon!

Yeah! Just got off the DCL site. They had posted our stateroom number we are in 5646. We were upgraded from a navigators verandah to a regular verandah.
For those of us that are staying or have family staying at the Grand Marina. Would ya'll like to try and arrange to meet before we get on the ship? We arrive @ 11 on the 17th.

Lissa - welcome back! Nice to upgrade if you can! We're on row 39 and there is still that one seat that is available, but not much else in the back of the plane. Right now there are 9 seats available in the business class, so if you're thinking about upgrading, you should probably do it soon.

I'm thinking we'll arrive at the airport between 4:30 - 5 p.m. I know we have to be at the gate at least 45 minutes ahead and our baggage has to be checked at least an hour ahead, so that means we need to have it checked before 7 p.m. -- and then by the time we have to get through security and to the gate, I figure we need to allow 30 - 45 minutes for any delays there, so we should have the bags checked between 6:15 - 6:30 which means we should be in the check-in line by 5:45 - 6:00 which means my brother should drop us off really no later than 5:30, but add 30 - 45 minutes extra for MY comfort zone -- well, you get the idea :teacher:

That said, we should be at the gate in plenty of time to have a pre-boarding Meet :)

Hi Lissa

Welcome back and glad to hear that you had a good times at WDW and hope you are feeling okay now.

Glad to heard that you got upgraded! We saw at DCL website that we are in 6014 - Cat 8 so we are happy with it.

The weather seem warmer now :goodvibes

I have booked the Grand Marina for in law and we will meet them there about tea time (around 5 - 6 pm), hope see you there too.:thumbsup2

Ok just checked the cost of upgradeing tickets unless we can do it with points at the gate there is no way. Way to expensive. We are in row 30 in the middle three seats it is an emergency row so there should be a little more room. If not Matt will have to just deal with it. Because Delta changed our flight from Asheville. We are getting to Atlanta 3 hours ahead of time. Cindy we will see you at the gate. Will be the three probable with the most carry on luggage. I've got to learn to pack better.

We are in 6526... I have booked a few exercursions through DCL .. Jumping Back- Rome, Sights of Palermo.. and the pompeii trip.

We are arriving a two days before and will be staying at Grand Marina..

We have only been on one previous DCL cruise. We loved it so much that we joined DVC and got in on this trip.

My question for you is... although my son (7) loved the clubs, we loved him going as well... I don't know if I'd go on an exercusion and leave him in the club and be far away from him.. how common is it for people to do that.. ?

Am I being a nervous nell?

Thanks
Susan :headache:

We cancelled Marsielle and the Little train as well. We are going to do it on our own and save a bunch of money.

We also got our rm assignments and we are in 2524, a cat9. with oceanview. Now mind you, my inlaws booked this trip for the whole family as a gift for their 40th anniversary in January and they tried to get all 3 families rooms with verandahs. At that time they only had one left and of course they took that one. My sister in law is in #6002. I am not sure what rm my inlaws are in yet. I have never been that low in a boat before. Wonder what it will be like. It really doesn't matter I guess, I am just so excited to go!!!

I can't believe how close we are getting. My 4year old dd just got her hair cut today by her little friend with a pair of kiddie scissors. I almost started crying :scared: when I saw the 8 inch locks of her beautiful hair on the floor. She has no bangs left and her all one length hair is now full of layers. We took her to get it evened up and now we are just hoping that her bangs grow some before the cruise. UGG!

Have a good night.
Kathleen

Hi Susan

I have two childrens, ds 10 and dd 7 as we are going to Sorrento and Amaifi Coast and we are leaving our children at the Club as it is all day.

I know the children will have a great times at the Club while we tour because last year I couldn't take my ds out of the club - full day!!

You will be fine and I know that feeling nervous but you will have a great times. Your kid will have a super times too.

Okay, my theory still holds true. We are booked on DVC points, and checked DVC today and we got a cat. 11 (no upgrade). Although I am quite happy with our stateroom location. We are in 6583. Midship. YIPPEE! We love deck six. I had originally tried to book 6067, but was told we could only do a cat 11 guarantee, so I'm okay.

Although, it will be a little harder for me since we did the transatlantic in a cat. 4. We were in a cat. 6 for the two of us, but when we got to the port I upgraded to the cat. 4 for only $400 total! Couldn't turn it down. DH couldn't understand why I needed to spend an additional $400 for only the two of us. My opinion.....money well spent! HA

Hi everyone,

I don't know if any of you have those "Dollar General" stores where you live but I found the cutest little Disney activity books for the kids there. They are small so they won't take up too much room in the kids carryons, they have a Mickey book and a Minnie book. I have been looking for things that will be new and fun to keep the kids occupied on the flight over and back.

Have a blessed day,
Kathleen

I'm starting my pre-packing basket today! I've gotten a few things for the trip that I need to put out of the way for the next couple of weeks but not so out of the way that I forget I have them. The kids come home this weekend and we have vacation bible school all next week and then they go off to camp for a week, so I have to organize and pack for camp. So maybe I need to start a pre-packing basket for CAMP, too.

But regarding cruise packing, how do you all pack liquids in your checked baggage? I decided to get a couple of the small bottles of liquid Tide to use for our laundry (assuming we have room in the luggage) but I don't want it to leak out on everything. I figured I could pack double-bag it in zip-lock bags and put it in one of the suitcases (the one without the good clothes). Any that is left-over at the end of the trip, I won't bring back with us (thus creating room for a couple of small souvenirs).

I do exactly that for my liquid stuff. Put in a double bag and then zip lock it. However, I use the dry detergent, so I put in a small tupperware container and pack that. Never had a problem doing that.

The other thing I did on the last trip was wait until we got to our destination and then went to the drug store to buy the shampoos and stuff. Then I didn't have to haul them all across the country and I got rid of all of them before I flew back all the way from Barcelona. Worked pretty well.
