July 17th 2005 Magic?

Welcome to those joining the thread :wave2:

NEWCRUSR - What a wonderful way to celebrate a healthy recovery. I really think the Make a Wish foundation is a great cause. They also granted a wish to my mom's coworker. Her DD5 has a major heart condition and they went to DLR in April. I'm sure your celebration will be special. Any type of successful surgery is reason to celebrate.

Out of curiousity, I called to see if there are tickets available for the benefit on July 16, and there are! Adults are $1,000 and children are $250. They lady said the benefit is basically the cruise experience without actually cruising. There will be activities, shows and buffets available to the guests. I think I'll experience the cruise when I am actually cruising.

There is an article in the Orange County Register about the Twice Charmed show we'll see on the cruise. Here's the link.

You might have to register to view the article.

Amber(Newcrusr) - A big Happy Birthday to you! I think someone else here has that birthday also. We sure do have a bunch of birthday celebrations going on. And how wonderful for your lil sister! One year, I hope see's doing well. :flower:

Joy(ThreeJs) - Thanks for article and the party info. I better not share with my DD16/Maura or she will be wanting to clear out her bank account to attend the party. :rotfl: A very worthy cause though ~ wish we could afford to go.

3 more days and DDs are out of school. Had some great news yesterday DD13/Megan (after auditioning 2 mos ago) got accepted to the School of Performing & Creative Arts High School. She currently attends the middle school part of this school but had to audition to continue through high school. She doesn't have plans to be a famous actor or musician but we wanted her to have a well balance education w/ academics and the arts.

I have also thought about going to the El Cid Resort in Mazatlan on our own since I read about it somewhere. Looks like taxis are readily avail and the resort will let you use their pool and beach if you tell them you will be buying food and drinks there.

Janice

Janice ~You should do the El Cid Resort, it would be fun to have a bunch of us DIS board families there. DDs and DH are really into pools, swimming, slides. I on the other hand am more of a watcher :earseek: Plus the hotel is in the Golden area of Mazatlan which is where the shops are. My DSIL wants to hit some of the shops and she speaks fluent Spanish, so we could have a "built in translator". :cool1:

~Bethany

PS glad I'm not the only shopper in the bunch!!

Hi All
Sounds like we have a Dis Group Meet at the El Cid. Count DW in on the shopping excersion! Her eyes were as big as saucers while reading Bethany's note. I too think that it would be better if we all travel in a big group to the El Cid. We may have to arrange a 2nd Sea day meet to nail down the details. School is out today and we are so excited. Now its on to waiting for Room#, Docs, and Packing. Talk to you all soon!
Roger

Yeah my countdown clock is less than 30 days now. Can't wait to do the docs dance!!!

Bethany---Great news about your daughter. My daughter is a drama queen too. I can't wait to tell her that we have another budding thespian in the bunch.

Amber--- Welcome to ou cruise thread. My birthday is July 16th also. This is truly a celebration cruise. I agree with Bethany that a sucessful surgery is a great reason to celebrate and how wonderful that she is well enought to enjoy it. Don't worry about going out of the country...it will be a blast. If you feel uneasy taking a shore excursions, you can always stay onboard. They still have activities while the ship is in port, plus you get the added benefit of the ship being less crowded. While you can't shop at the onboard shops while we are in port you can do everything else.

Have you guys been reading the thread about the tehders in Cabo. I have only tendered once with DCL at Grand Cayman. I have to tell you that I am a little nervous after reading this thread. We don't have an excursion planned in Cabo, but was planning to get a taxi to go see the arches and sea lions. Hope other have better news to report.

It is getting really close to the cruise. Tomorrow is my daughter's last day of school, YEAH! I booked the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour at DL for us. If any of you seasoned DL vets have any advice on how to do DL I would appreciate it. I think I will get the Golden ears in the park with our names on it. Can't wait to see Club 33. Hope everyone has a great week :cheer2:

Hi everyone!! We're getting really excited - just one month to go (too bad I have a 2 week trial to deal with before I can get ready). Newcrusr, how wonderful about your sister. It really puts thing in perspective, doesn't it -who cares if the water isn't quite as warm as the Carribean or the servers aren't familiar, you're on the cruise and she's healthy!!!
We wont be at El Cid - we're doing Randi's happy horses. hopefully, i'll get some shopping time when its over. What is everyone doing in Cabo - we're signed up for the Santa Maria Sail and Snorkel (my daughter really wanted to try snorkeling), but I keep reading about jelly fish with the full moon (which i think we'll have). I dont want her stung if at all possible - her skin is so sensitive and she's such an allergic kid (plus, she's quite the drama queen these days - if you get my drift  ). anyway, maybe we'd be better off going to a resort with a great pool. what do you all think? Have a great day everyone!

Hey Everybody. We finally got our state room assignments. Checked the Disney site last night. We are on Deck 2 aft. I'm excited because we have connecting cabins, which I figured was a long shot since we were so late to book. I can't believe it is only a month away.

Surely it will be warmer in July. If not, my husband will be thrilled. We also will be with Randi's happy horses, but I think we get done relatively early, don't we? We're not going to book a Cabo excursion.

We still haven't booked our room for the night before. I'm still thinking we want to stay at LAX and take the Super Shuttle to the pier. Still trying to decide.

I'm glad to see more people joining our thread...We should have quite a crowd at our Scoops meet. Have you all been reading about how long it seems to be taking to get onto the boat. We may have to make some adjustments to our meet.

It still looks like there are going to be LOTS of little girls on this boat. Are we the only ones with boys???

Amie

Howdy all!
WOW-we really have grown from the original 8 families that were scheduled for this crusie! Glad to see it--welcome to all our "new' cruisers! (and a special :wave2: to those of you who are cruising in celebration for recovering from medical challenges-I'm glad all is well!)
I think you can count me and my family in on the El Cid/shopping excursion. I was uneasy about doing a non-Disney excursion, but the more I read, the more I feel it will be okay (especially if it's a large group -safety in numbers :earsboy: ). We just need to watch our time coming back. The itinerary says 7:30, but I THINK the boat will be leaving at 5:00. We should confirm this and maybe meet again to hammer out details.
As far as Cabo is concerned, I think I'll cancel my Disney excursion and either stay on the boat or explore on our own.
I agree with Amie-seems like boarding is taking longer than expected. However, since we don't have passengers disembarking (only sleepy celebs), maybe it would be okay to leave the meet for 3:00. :confused3 What is everyone else thinking?
Well, it looks like I'll be making a trip to Disney after all! A friend of my DD6 has invited her to Disneyland Monday, and her mom asked if I would like to come along. It will be nice to see the changes made for the 50th celebration!
Well, back to work!
Talk to you all soon,
Debbie

Hi All
We too got our room assignment last night. Also Deck 2 aft. Looks like we will be neighbors. :cool1: We too got connecting rooms, however we are not traveling with anyone. :confused3 I am not going to complain we are on the ship and it looks like from the room reports that we are in a quite portion of the ship. We will take our chances with our connecting cabin mates. Docs can not be far away. People on the July 2nd cruise are receiving them so about 2 more weeks. :Pinkbounc

Hello fellow "DL Birthday Cruisers" ~

Well it is yet another June gloom day here in SD, though the weather forecast for next week is encoraging, hopefully will warm up a bit.

DonnettaR - I agree with your caution concerning the tenders @ Cabo. Saw you posted a thread about it, hopefully you will get more info.

pclaire & Amie - I've heard good things about Randi's HH, we booked the DCL excursion in Cabo - Horseback Riding on the Beach. Haven't heard any reports on it. Maybe in time with more cruises we'll find out something.

Amie - I believe PoohJanice has 2 DS and my nephew is 6 yrs old. Now if we could just get more teenagers, my DDs would be thrilled.

Debbie - That's great you'll be doing DL. Look for all the Golden Mickey's while you walk down Main St and the fireworks show (new) is a must see!
Glad your family and Roger's family will alo going to the El Cid Hotel. Roger you still have your e-mail from the hotel, right? Though I don't think there will be any problems. :) :) And yes we will have to get together and coordinate time & such.

At my last count we are up to 10 families posting. Quite a crew pirate: and I'm sure more will be posting as we get closer to the date. The more the merrier! :cheer2:

~Bethany

Yes! I have 2 DS, 7 yrs and almost 5yrs. We are also traveling w/ 8 other So Cal families w/ a total of 14 kids ranging in age from 2 up to 10yrs!

I just booked my brunch at Palo (dinner too) but it didn't give me the option of choosing Tea at Palo. Anyone know why??

For those of you who are going to DL, another must see is the new parade. Best view (source is a Disney Freak who goes every week) is in front of the bathrooms next to Alice in Wonderland and facing the Matterhorn. The parade stops and they perform right in front of you. Also, to get the best view of the fireworks... as you're facing the castle, stand to the right of the Walt Disney & Mickey statue (at the hub) and stand in the middle of street. You want a good view of the castle and Matterhorn because the show takes place on both! You need to get there at least 1 hour before the fireworks start because it gets really crowded! Have a great time! (While you're at DL, you might want to pick up any last minute Pirate gear at the shop next to the Pirates of Caribbean exit!)

Hi PoohJanice - I noticed not being able to book the tea at Palo also. I think I read somewhere (maybe here on the boards or in the Passporter Book) that they only do high tea on the 7 day cruises. Maybe because we are 6 days they aren't doing it OR maybe the website just isn't updated. You could probably call the regular reservation # and talk to a real person. I decided not to check it out cause hubby wasn't that interested in tea :sad2: and DDs aren't 18 yet.

We loved the fireworks but missed the parade last time. Will catch it next
time.

Roger - Cute green Mickey Head, part of your door decorations?

Believe it or not gotten run :moped: out to Walmart to pick up batteries for the digital camera DD13 wants to take to last day of school tomorrowThe rechargable ones won't recharge anymore :confused3 .

Hi PoohJanice and Bethany
The Palo Tea was available when I was booking dinner and brunch about 2-3 weeks ago. We were not interested (Just did the offical one in Victoria, CA). It may be full but it would not hurt to call. I think that it was available on sea days. Yes the parade was awesome at DL. We watched where mainstreet splits near city hall. Great view coming up main street. We were unable to go to fireworks since it was a school night (Sunday). Just noted that the July 9th cruisers were starting to get their DOCs. That means we are next. By the way I got a great Pirate hat, eye patch and earring at the shop next to Pirate ride. My DW is making me a puffy shirt (Look out Jerry Seinfeld). Bethany No the green mickey is not our door decoration but our buttons we will be wearing so the rest of you know who we are at the Scoops meet. Everyone has a different one. I will be the tall goofy one! Time to go to bed. Only 16 more work days until vacation.

Hi Everyone....

The last day of school is finally upon us, woo hoo.

Tea - we were able to make reservations about a month ago (Friday @ 3). I read that Disney split the ressie spots between online and in person to give those who don't have online access an opportunity to sign up. The online spots are probably filled so you should be able to make a ressie when we board.

For those who are AP's - on the DL AP website, you can take a 'quiz' about the scenes in the new parade and then download a screen saver with images taken from the fw show. There are some good pics and it plays a little of the dreams come true song. (think that's what it is).
