July 13 2008 Cruisin on the Wonder

I am not sure how big these things need to be, but I have two. THe Mickey one I bought on ebay is cuter than I expected, it's more cloth than plastic, but pretty generic. Do a search for fish extender and look at the ones that have Pooh and the pink Mickey Mouse ones. This is like those, only blue. I can use my other one, which I like just fine, but it only has three pockets. That's big enough isn't it? If you want it, I can bring the Mickey one to your room and put it on your fish the first day.

By the way, are we just leaving treats whenever, or assigning days? I know Lesley won't see this, but if the rest of us pick a day, hers should fit whenever. What do you guys think?

I guess if your 2nd FE fits in you suitcase, go ahead and bring it, (if it doesn't and its too much...its really ok too)...but I should hear from the ebay gal sometime 4th of July weekend. I could just use yours and then get it back to you or mail it back to you. I have a feeling the personalization had begun, but she hadn't sewn it together yet so I think we're out the money anyway...

To me the point of spending $35 for a customized FE with different Mickey heads and names, etc. was that I didn't have to do it..oh well and I'd paid for it so long ago, but couldn't give her the details (with my husbands stuff going on) of what color thread and who wanted the Capt. Mickey hat vs. the pirate bandana and the colors and thread colors...whew!!! til 2 weeks ago.....it was going to be cute!!

As for the gifting....I was more worried about not having enough for each day...see that's the California mom in me...It's fine to assign days or not...we are sooo flexible/easy going about this. If it works better for anyone to just do an assigned day...that's just fine..or if you want to leave things sporadically, that's fine too...(living in Nebraska has toned me down a notch....... And of course, whatever works for Lesley is fine with us too.

No problem - it's already in the suitcase! I will bring it as soon as possible after boarding, so while I am at it, I will just deliver all of the FE stuff. Guess I better pack them in my carry on! That's a bummer that you won't get the specially designed one. I have a lady that is doing some sewing for my girls, and I was thinking about asking her to whip one up for me with leftover fabric. I will have to see when she gets the outfits done. I got all inspired by the Disboutiquers, and found someone to sew for me. I really need to learn. They are little enough, yet, that I could do some fun things for at least a few more years...

We leave on the 10th - sounds like this board is going to be pretty quiet soon. I absolutely cannot wait to get out of here. I started gathering the non-essentials to pack yesterday.

Anyway, plan on having the FE - leave a note in mine if we want to meet up. I don't have the dry erase board planned.

Yes, I hear you...we can't wait to go as well. I was copying off the passports last night. That was such a great tip. And, we need to purchase a power strip...that will come in handy this year for us.

Hey, tell me (both Jen and Michelle) what is this Canon Rebel that you both have? What does it do that is special?? We just have a digital Kodak something or other with a docking station so I can print at home..what is new in the digital camera world

The Canon Rebel is just a digital camera, but it has lots of professional features. Unfortunately, I am not a professional photographer, and I didn't get around to taking the class in time for this trip.

Oh..the passports. We're supposed to keep 2 copies. One copy is to be left at home. We have it in the safe or in a locked file cabinet. Just in case we lose a passport. The 2nd copy is supposed to stay with you in a suitcase or kept in a room safe if you lose the passport on the cruise or in a port, etc. It is supposed to make things easier. My DS15 last year traveled to CA and was hassled about an id. He now has a learners permit with a picture, but a passport is so much is better for id at the airport security. It is just a back up thing.

It's a fancy camera which I'm not allowed to use lol. J/K. It's professional grade, takes beautiful pics and was expensive.

Well ladies, I leave Thursday night. So my last post will probably be around 4 or 5 pm that day. Our Flight is 9pm that night but we're leaving earlier so we can get dinner at the airport. My fish extender is almost done. Just have to attach the strap at the top, and iron on a few things. My cousin made it for me yesterday and sewed on pockets today

I'm thinking our door will be woefully plain. It sounds like the kind of thing Iwould have fun doing, but I dont know how to do anything to add our name to the picture, like people say you should do. And if I made it, I'd be really annoyed if someone took off with it. I'm already going to have to hire someone to watch the FE! Just kidding, and I will have zipties, but I have little faith in the general public. (Feeling like using the emoticons today) 9 days to cross off before we leave!

We are doing the magnet thing this year... but I think Jen will be very surprised to find out that nearly all the doors are woefully plain...do you remember any decorated doors last year Michelle???

I didn't even know about this website til this Spring.I don't remember any decorated doors or FE's...We had a Bon Voyage sign since we purchased the cake package and promtly stuck the big Bon Voyage magnet on the inside of the door.

So..you have to remember with alllllllll the people cruising, there will be woefully few with an FE or a decorated door. We will truly be in the minority. The lack of decorated doors will surprise you...

We picked up a 4 pack of magnetic paper from Staples for about $15 and printed some off. DS13 tried them out on the front of the washing machine to see how hard it was to pry them off and it is very hard. In fact in doing so, he really kind of damaged the magnet. I figure if they are so interesting to take, we could always make more at home. The pics are stored off the boards. DS15 put our room number on them somehow, so I don't know if that will be enough or not.

Have a fantastic time and safe travels! We have 9 more to go. I keep filling them with visits to obscure relatives, in the hopes they will ask Brynne to spend the night. So far it is working!

Well at least we won't stand out as uninvolved then! Someday I will figure out how to photoshop the names on the cute designs. (After I learn to use my camera, and learn to sew.)

Last year the people next to us had a few magnets because I think they had purchased the birthday package. We celebrated our honeymoon last year but did not decorate our door. We forgot....in the midst of getting married etc to do them lol

The door decorations are easy to make.
I found the boards before our first cruise so I did the dry erase board. We are vacation club so we usually get a magnet or 2 for that and castaway club usually gets one. Thank you dcl & dvc!
For hubby's b-day on the November magic we had the happy birthday one from the stateroom decorations, plus on the disboards for that cruise we decided to make lime green mickey heads with our info on our doors (stateroom in one ear, NJ week on the other then in the middle were the dates and disboard name). If I can figure out how to post a picture I can post the one that I used.
I made it with card stock paper and printed on the computer the info, I cut, laminated and stuck a magnet to the back (the craft store has magnetic rolls with sticky on the back) (played on the computer for that)
I still have to get one of those magnetic pen holders (i'll probably hit staples) only because I found some cool dry erase marker colors and this will give anyone that wants to leave a message a better choice of colors
Hope I helped with ideas for the doors (also they sell those magnetic clips so you could print something and clip it).
Well gotta go the kids are tired from camp

wow thanks for the tips. I'd never thought of different colored pens We still have some cruise nametags to print which will probably remain on the inside of the stateroom door. Other than that it is just putting together little piles of everyones stuff in one of the guest rooms and packing it all....

I know..I know you don't want it back but you have to keep it...see you're oldest is 8. My youngest is 8. You have a lot of years til your youngest is 8..you know. You might just want it or need it for a trip even though you received a better one. You just have so many years of Disney to go and your kids are little...you just never know. Soooo..I do want you to keep it. This probably doesn't make any sense right now..but it might in the future
