July 12, 2011 - Sailing to Alaska is WONDERful style!!!

aloha,
We just paid off our cruise also. We are gold members and can't book until 3/29. We are still deciding on excursions. It's a lot harder with our moms with us. So must choose wisely.
Have a great day everyone:cool1::thumbsup2

Do you think that there will be a special night due to the new Harry Potter movie coming out????

I didn't know that the harry potter movie comes out during the cruise; that would be great! Also, I think the new pirates in the caribbean will debut while we are cruising too - I am sure they will show at least one of those - that should be a lot of fun!

I wish they would screen the last Harry Potter movie as I am a fan, but I think the answer is no. I don't think they screen anything other than movies distributed by Disney or their partner companies. I am pretty sure the Harry Potter franchise is not affiliated with Disney.

Well, our reservation window opened up, so we booked.... everything was still available.

Takshanuk Adventure in Skagway
Mendenhall Glacier & Float in Juneau
Misty Fjords (for DD & I) & Bear Creek Zip line for DH & DS in Ketchikan.

Hope we chose good ones! I actually let the kids pick, that way I'm off the hook if they aren't fun. The helicopter & float planes all look so amazing, but expensive once you times it by 4, so we opted for a little less adventure.

So glad you were able to get the excursions you wanted! Since you are Platinum, I was wondering if you could do me a huge favor. I have called DCL and they can't tell me if the Neets Bay Bear Watch by Floatplane (Seasonal) is available to book for our cruise. The DCL site says Mid-July but when I Googled the two vendor sites I found said the excursion begins July 20 and 22nd. DCL could tell me if it would be available on Juuly 17th when we'll be there. They initially said yes because July 17th is mid-July but then admitted they did not know for sure. Hoping you can help!

I looked up excursions for Ketchican and did not see any that listed Neets Bay Bear Watch. The only Floatplane (beside the private) was the one to Misty Fjords.

Hope that helps! Happy to look up anything.

Thanks so much. If it's not too much trouble could you see if Bear Country and Wildlife Expedition in Ketchikan is listed?

The only thing with "bear" in the title is the bear creek zip line adventure. Then there is the "Alaskan Coastal Expedition" which is a boat trip that mentions wildlife viewing and lists bears.

aloha,
Just wondering where everyone is staying when they come into Vancouver?
We just put in our request at Club Intrawest using our dvc points.
Has anyone stayed here?

We are booked at the Pan Pacific. We like having our luggage magically appear on the ship! :wizard:

just to let east coast - mid atlantic cruisers know - we just booked out flights & went with cathay pacific - the price was $200 or more less than continental - and we get to take 2 suitcases w/o paying -and we get a meal - and even better reason is that the seats recline w/in themselves - so no seatback in your face - it's the first time we're using cathay - but it looks good - and the flights are night flights - so we can sleep & occupy some time of the flight - if anyone else is going w/cathay - let us know - it'll be nice to see some dis'rs on board -

no onto hotel & excursions - yeah!

i have only been on one cruise and never ordered room service. I know that it is not entirely free, but I am confused. Do you need to pay for ALL beverages (soda, juice, coffee, etc) or just soda? Are the prices insanely high or reasonable? And then how do you know how much to tip - a dollar or two or five or ten? Thanks!

I booked Cathay last July for this trip for $340 pp roundtrip. Loved the 2 bags for free part! We are heading out on Friday then staying at the Pan Pacific until the cruise on Tuesday. I also made a car reservation at JFK to leave the car parked there.

I can't wait to get the excursions booked next week!

I am considering getting the trolley pass. It looks like the second days is free if purchase online so we would use it on Sunday and Monday. It looks like the loop is 2 hours and you can depart as much as you like with a new trolley coming every 40 minutes. We are probably staying in Canada Place so it sounds like it would be a great way to see the sites around Vancouver without renting a car.

That is our plan too! We will be at the Pan Pacific and have two daughters 7 & 10.

If you request soda in a can, there is a charge. Not sure what the price is per can. Also there is a charge for snack items like candy and popcorn. I usually tip a couple of dollars. Room service is the best in the morning if you have early tours.
