July 12 2009 ON THE WONDER

Mari,

Thanks for the pixie dust. pixiedust: It worked. I received great news from the doctor. He said I can absolutely go on the trip.:cheer2: I just need to make sure I walk up and down the plane every half hour and wiggle my feet when sitting in my seat. I am so excited.

Taylor came for a visit for two days and we spent some time talking about the cruise. Can't hardly wait. Just think only three months.:yay:

Are you and your family getting excited or just trying to get through the school year?

How about the rest of our July 12th cruisers? Are you all getting excited or just too busy to think about it yet.

I am soooooo happy for you...hooray for a sensible MD. I will call ahead to your stewardess and make sure she walks you up and down the aisle of your plane every 30 minutes on the dot!

Can't wait to book some excursions on the 13th!!!!

take care Mickie!

Mari,

Thanks for your idea of speaking to the stewardess. At my age you know I could become very forgetful:rotfl2: I am sure Taylor will keep me in line though. She knows how important this is.

What excursions have you guys thought about doing? I talked to Taylor and she just wasn't sure. She thought she would wait until we got on the ship to see what everyone was planning. Guess she really didn't want to go if everyone else was staying on board.

Sorry to see some of our cruisers have stopped writing on the board including one of the teens. Hope they haven't gotten bored with us already.:confused3

My husband and I went out to the lake today fishing. The weather was so beautiful in the low 80's. We have had so much wind lately it was nice to have a calm sunny day. How has the weather been by you? Has spring finally sprung?:flower3:

Well its actually sunny and yesterday was in the 60's...after our weekend blizzard...

Since the oldest is 16 now, he would like to try the waverunners..there is some type of tour they go on. My DH, my youngest and I will try for parasailing. Our 2 older boys did that last cruise and had a great time.

I will encourage the 2 older boys to go on the bike tour with the teen group. My DH and I with our youngest were taking a bike ride and saw the teens in a group riding around, so I will encourage them to do that.

We didn't do a Palo brunch last cruise, but we would like to do that this time. On our first cruise we had the oldest take the other 2 to a movie during our brunch and right in the middle of our brunch are these 3 boys of ours knocking on our window.....:rotfl2: so much for a brunch alone with my DH. Our oldest didn't know what to do with his brothers after the movie...we are like....what??????? go swim...have a snack...etc...:rotfl2:

I didn't join in the fun of chatting on our last cruise boards til May!!!! for our July 08 cruise...so we will see. I am still in for the FE if you want..so if it is the 2 of us or 20, I am fine with it!:thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Hope your weekend is going good and want to wish everyone HAPPY EASTER!

I was wondering if anyone (Teens) were going to book the teen"Wild Side Excursion" at Castaway Cay. It is 4 hrs and includes snorkeling, kayaking and the bike ride. Mari, have any of yours done it before. I think Taylor might like it although not sure about the snorkeling. She has done kayaking. Do you think 4 hrs might cut into beach time? Let me know what you think. Surprised we have not heard from anyone else since we are so close to our 90 days. Will make my Palo brunch reservation on Monday. Getting so excited.

Come on cruisers for July 12th LET'S HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!:cheer2:

Happy Belated Easter to you too!:)

I booked at 10pm MDT to get our excursions/palo booked last night. Got a Palo brunch and parasailing for DS 9 and DH and I and a dolphin excursion in Nassau.

The boys didn't do the teen excursion, but that must of been what we saw last year when we saw a teen group biking around. DS 16 and DS 14 think it is too long of a commitment. Sounds like a boy, huh??

DS16 is peeved that although he is 16 and is old enough to drive the waverunner that one of us adults has to be on the excursion as well even though the waverunners for this excursion are single riders. He thinks that is lame and wouldn't be as fun with mom or dad part of the pack so he is passing. It's a shame since he looked forward to it since last cruise...oh well:confused3

Let me know what you've booked! Are you late or early seating for dinners?

Mari:)

Hi Mari

Made my Palo brunch reservation for 11:00 a.m. Taylor was worried about my being alone but I am used to and enjoy my private time as my husband never travels with me.

I did not make any excursion reservations as Taylor didn't seem to want to do anything. I think she is waiting to see what is happening on ship. I am really sorry to hear Spencer won't be able to go on the waverunner. :sad1: I don't know how an adult can be with him if the runner is only for one???:confused3

We have late dinner seating. I would have preferred early but that is all they had. What do you guys have? What do you think is the best? We have always had early. How does late affect the shows?

I wonder if KJCool and her family, AmyLoves Disney and Verhunny are still going. No word on the boards from them.

I'M SO EXCITED:woohoo::woohoo:

Glad to hear you got a Palo brunch as well:)

The whole thing for the waverunners is that they wanted either DH or me on a waverunner by ourselves and then DS 16 on his own...I wonder if it it had something to do with him being a minor still and that one of us was still on the excursion with him. Oh well!!!:confused3

Taylor will be fine just hanging out at the teen beach. There will be plenty of kids out there hanging out.

We have early dinner, but it is really a trade-off. When we had late dinner, there were teen things that the boys wanted to do, but when we had early dinner, we had to be there..well...early! So it was getting off the beach or out of the pool and getting everyone ready for dinner early. So...there are pros and cons to each.

Can't wait!

Mari:)

Can't wait til then

Hey everybody. I know it's been awhile, but you know how life can get. I'll be writing on behalf of myself and mom.

Mickie I was so freaked to hear you and Taylor might not be going, I'm glad everything worked out and you all are still on board and you're ok.:)

Mari, like your boys I'm not planning on the teen excursion. Right now mom is planning on only one excursion and it's the Atlantis beach day. That could change... lol I can be pretty persuasive...lol

Mom asked my Granny to get us the early seating...(it's pretty convenient having a travel agent in the family,lol).. as far as I know that's what we have.

Mom has also been debating the Palo brunch as well, she really can't get my grandparents to go or anyone else in our group either.

Mom also has been bugging me about asking you all about fish extenders. She wants to know if we are doing them are not. She thinks they sound really cute and would do them if anyone else would. She just wants some advance notice.:)

Well, I'll be getting off for now.

Mickie tell Taylor I said hi and Mari tell Spencer too.

I can't believe it, only a month left of school and 3 more months til the cruise!

Katlyn

Yes! we are in for the fish extenders!!:cool1:

Our FE was difficult to receive. The gal we ordered from went on vacation right before our cruise and ended up mailing the package to the ship. We were sure that we weren't going to receive it, but we did......so I'd love to use it again. I think even if the group was not doing FE's, I'd hang it anyway:)

You were lucky to receive your early seating. I'm sure travel agent connections are invaluable in getting what you want. :). Who knows, perhaps we will be in the same dining rotation and we will wave to your group! Last cruise our Dis Meet group was in the early rotation for dining, but scattered in the different restaurants.

Spencer(14) and Terrence(16) say hello as well! They can't wait to get out of school May 21st:cool1:

Mari,
I would like to know how many things I should buy to put in them and how many days you are planning on buying for.:goodvibes

I know you told us once before who you bought yours from but could you please give that info again?:)

Lisa

This is what we did for last year's cruise...
I purchased our FE from ebay. If you search fish extenders on ebay, several sellers showing what they sell are on there. We purchased from Grady's mom and I believe she was out of the east coast. Ours is a blue background with Mickey heads ( a Minnie head for mine) and the kids picked out what colors, etc. We just simply ordered ours too late for her however. I believe it was a month to go and 2 weeks before our cruise, she posted a notice that they were going camping for a week at the beginning of July:scared1:

Well we were leaving for FL a couple of days early and I knew she wouldn't finish it so....she had it shipped to the ship and we received it from housekeeping our first night.

We knew we were planning another cruise for this year so we'd use it again, but there is a thread on the Disney Cruise Line board that shows pics of what people made. Since we will probably not do another cruise on DCL, I will give it to Spencer who loves Disney. He could hang it on his wall.....

Since we live in the boonies and in a state most people will never visit, I put in little things that are about rural prairie life and things you wouldnt know about unless you lived here.( I have told Spencer time and again that we do not live in a barren wasteland:rotfl2: and so what if he is the only kid in his junior high that knows how to break dance?...:rotfl2:)

One small item comes from the other end of the state and I don't think too many people know that it was "founded" here

There is one item that comes from CA where we used to live just bc we know the owners of this "candy factory" ;). There were some in our FE group that just gave once and others put a little something every evening. One overseas family gave snacks that they eat which were fun.

The teens used the FE to send each other notes like...meet at the karaoke place at 10pm...my mom is MAKING me do karaoke...

But again...anything little..don't think too much about it:)

Mari

Hi Everyone,

I too am excited about doing the fish extenders. My friend who is very crafty (I am not) offered to make mine for me. I can't wait to see it. Whatever it looks like will certainly be better than what I could have done!! How many of us and what ages are there going to be?

Mari: I was reading the boards and read about you wearing one of your sorority dresses for formal night. Would love to see one of the photos. I am 62 and believe me would NEVER fit into anything from my high school days (didn't go to college). Send us a photo! Will your boys dress up?

Gosh the boys get out of school early. Taylor doesn't get out until mid June.

Can't wait to meet everyone on our cruise.:woohoo:

oh those sorority formal dresses were worn on a Princess Cruise formal night when I was 26 or 27:lmao:.... and a tall bean pole at that. There would be no way in my 40's I could slither into anything that shiny or sparkly. Those pictures from the early 90's wouldnt even look like us. I think my DH was wearing some tux with a pattened tropical tie:laughing:..ugh at least there were no ruffles!

The last 2 semi-formal nights on cruises I wore a short black dress thank goodness...:)

Our boys will be the same ages when we cruise...they are all late summer/fall bdays

The boys will wear khaki pants and polo shirts to dinner..easiest to pack

Can't wait to cruise!

Mari:)

Mari,

Sorry won't be able to see the beautiful dresses. What really sounds great would have been if your husband had worn the "ruffled shirt":rotfl2: I do believe my husband might have worn one of those to one of our proms.

You know with the airlines putting limits on luggage it is getting more difficult to bring formal wear. I don't think people are getting dressed up nearly like they used to. Good thing this is only 4 days and not 7.

Weather here this last week has been in the 90's. It sure is way too early for these temperatures. What is it like by you?

Taylor is going to take her driver's test on Friday. She is pretty nervous. I am more nervous about her getting on those California roads.:scared1:

It is 85 degrees out in the prairie today, but should only be in the 50's by the weekend. Your blast of heat must be traveling west.

That's true about the luggage. With the 5 of us, we bring 4-5 suitcases and one is usually empty, so we can shuffle things and keep under weight limits. Boys are much easier with shorts and t-shirts.

Tell Taylor good luck on her driver's test. The kids out here have to drive 40 miles to be tested on freeway driving.. Also here, a 14 year old can get a "school permit" if they live on the outskirts of town which doesn't take much. Thank goodness we live in town. I wouldnt want my 14 year old driving at all:scared1:

I attended USC and my DH makes me drive when we visit southern CA..the traffic drives him nuts:)

Mari: You make it sound as though you live in the "boonies"

Has Spencer gotten his license? Wow, USC. How impressive. Such a great school and so difficult to get in to. Taylor has looked at Pepperdine but tuition is running about $40,000. :faint: Her next choice is BYU. Then, of course, one has to be accepted!

My husband hates driving and even going to California. After growing up there and the moving here he dreads going to all that traffic too. I keep telling him though the traffic here in the last five years is worse than L.A.

Looking forward to this weekend as it is going to cool down to the high 70's:yay:

ToothFairy: Glad you want to participate in FE. How many are going to be in your party besides Katlyn? I am so excited and can't wait to meet everyone:cheer2:

Well I don't think USC was as tough to get into when I was there. My sister in law kept telling my niece who is graduating that she was "too intelligent" to attend USC and although she applied there, my sister in law wanted her to go to "more academic schools" like Berkeley or UCLA. With her 4.1 (with AP classes) she was outright rejected from USC and is on the waiting lists for Berkeley and UCLA...I had to laugh..I thought if you had relatives that went to USC it was an ez acceptance.:)

Isn't BYU expensive just since she is out of state??? Pepperdine is one pretty school location in Malibu:thumbsup2

Yes we are in the boonies...Spencer could go on and on about how awful it is out here, but he really doesn't understand the freedom he has here...not much crime,etc...if you ride your bike here and leave it propped up against the wall of a store (outside), it will still be there when you get back...if fact our neighbors left a bike in their front yard for about a month....and I couldnt understand why nobody took it.:confused3

Spencer doesnt have his license yet..he is 14 and we don't live out of city limits or he could. I find watching 8th graders driving to junior high one creepy experience. Terrence got his license right around his 16th birthday

Have a great day:thumbsup2

Mari from the boonies:)
