July 10, 2011--DIS PEEPS reunite on the Disney Dream!

This will be our third cruise with Disney..and still can't remember..will we be having a formal night on this cruise or is it for 7 nights or longer that have Formal Night?

Apparently we have a "dress up" night which is less formal than "formal night". Someone called DCL and posted the dinner/dress schedule for the 5 night cruises. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2676898

Here's what she said about our cruise:
For 5 Night Cruises departing on a Sunday:
Night 1- Cruise Casual
Night 2- Dress Up Night
Night 3- Pirate Night- Special Menu
Night 4- Cruise Casual
Night 5- Cruise Casual- Special Menu (this is still a ? but a good possibility)

Dining Room Rotations (Restaurants repeat 1&5 2&3)
1- AP, EG, EG, RP, AP
2- RP, AP, AP, EG, RP
3- EG, RP, RP, AP, EG

Well, I'm not too keen on using a whole suitcase for the FE, but I love the idea of giving something that comes from our hometown area. That gives me a great start! Thanks for the info. Everyday adds more excitement and anticipation. My DS11 now has a Jack Sparrow costume for pirate night thanks to a great buy on ebay!

Believe me, I'm not too keen on having a whole suitcase for the FE, so I already have planned what I am going to do this time which will not take up a whole suitcase. I figured we would have a lot of extra room for our flight home, but you know what...both of our checked luggage were over 50 lbs:scared1: Yes, we were the ones who were scrambling to take things out of those suitcases when we were checking in for our flight and add them to our carry ons! What a hassle! So, I thought for our flight for this cruise, I would either book Southwest or Jetblue and not have to worry about paying to check bags...OMG they were so expensive! They were both over $400 RT each, so I finally found a flight on Delta for $259 RT. I am hoping we can each have a carryon with our clothes but we will see!

Thank you LV Disney Fan for the schedule. I was looking for that a couple of months ago and gave up. So, dress up night, something about that just sounds a little scary. Like I'm going to a tea party with a 4 year old.
Not that it really matters, just put the food in front of me and I won't notice much else.

Hello All!

The cruise is just right around the corner! So happy :) By the way, has anyone started an FE list?

Maruko

Im new here and will be on this cruise with my DH, DS 10 and DD9. We have never cruised before and we are really excited. We have visited Orlando for 3 weeks evey summer for the last 7 years so we know as much as we need to know about that but we have no idea about cruising! I was hoping you could give us some tips. Thank you all :goodvibes

Welcome! Disney's a great way to start what may become a cruising addiciton - at least it's turned out that way for us

I thought the same thing - "dress up" sounds like we should all be bringing costumes instead of suits and dresses!

OH BOY, now there's a list. Okay, chip&daleuk, there are whole threads on this, but I know sometimes time and circumstances make for little space to look up such things. So, here goes:

1. Over the door shoe holder for the back of the bathroom door. This is for extra storage and easy access to things like sunscreen, medications (especially dramamine/scopalomine), sunglasses and other needed small items. See through ones work best so you can quick glance look for what you need.
2. Highlighter pen to mark items on the navigators that you want to do and not forget. You get the navigators (a daily planner of events on the ship) the night before.
3. Small penlight for night-time excursions in the room so you don't have to turn on the main light and wake everybody up.
4. Power strip to re-charge items.
5. . . .

It's time for me to leave work, so I'll leave more to others.

By the way, welcome all newcomers to the meet. Not many more weeks until we all meet on one of the happiest places on the sea.

Looks like you found a great deal on Delta! Wow! We will be driving since we are only in Alabama and most likely will visit WDW for a couple of days before the cruise. Not looking forward to the $15/day parking, but it won't be much different from when we go to the parks and stay in a hotel off-grounds.

Got our first DCL welcome booklet in the mail yesterday! Can't wait until we can book our port adventures and on-board plans! Kind of nervous we'll get slim pickings since we have to wait last to visit the planning center. I will definitely be up and calling right at midnight!:hourglass

We will be spending the week prior to the cruise at WDW as well...we get there on July 2 and will be staying in a Marriott timeshare at the World Center property (so we'll be paying to park at the themeparks)...but we got our tickets through the yes program so saved quite a bit of money!:cool1: We will be doing an ocean class on July 4 at Epcot and it sounds pretty interesting. We can't wait for the warm weather! We had a teaser here on Friday as it got up to around 67 degrees...it felt like summer had finally arrived. However, reality soon set in and yesterday it was back down in the 30's and 40's.

Don't forget to bring a card for the "light switch" thing in your room. We just used our hotel key cards from the night before the cruise. Left them in there the whole time.

Could you please clarify... Thanks

The lights are controlled by a key card reader -- you place your KTTW card in the reader and then you are able to operate the lights and TV. The trick is that it doesn't necessarily have to be your KTTW card. Any key card will do -- we used our Radisson key cards from the night before. Otherwise joke loving kids or forgetful spouses will just take out there KTTW card while you are in the bathroom and leave, leaving you in the dark -- literally.

Oh, I see the light!! thanks

Trying to decide on port adventures -- without breaking the bank!

I know my girls will want to parasail again, but my youngest did not like it so I think I will let my sister take the two older ones while DD#3 and I go stake out a good spot on CC one day. They loved the paddle boats and aquatrike and snorkeling, definitely doing that again.

For the Bahamas -- deciding between Sea Lion encounter, Aquaventure ($$$), or just making it another sea day. Will definitely be talking to my sister about that decision.

DD#1 is saving her money for the spa! Will hit the D-Lounge to book brunch 1st, then the spa. Those appointments book up fast, especially for the Sea Day.

I might take a taxi to the port to get there at 945 this time to get a really early boarding number so I can get what I want. DH and I tried to get a private cabana last week and apparently they were all booked in a heartbeat. Won't even try it this time since it is two days. Might get spoiled!

I didn't know they had aquatrikes and paddle boats on Castaway Cay. We may try that.

Has anyone every tried the massage on Castaway Cay? Is it worth it?

UUUGGHHHH!!!!!! It is snowing!!:sad2: I though the groundhog said early spring?????:confused3 So ready for the warm weather!!!!! What are my chances for getting the excursions I want since I can't book until April 26th???? I really only want one. I would like the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon. It is the only thing my DD picked and it is for her bday...

It was snowing here today too! At least it was just flurries, but enough is enough! For the dolphin encounter, if you can't get it through Disney, can you book it independently? I know some places will not let cruise passengers book directly through them, so I don't know if this is the case or not.
