Julie's continual struggle (WW thread - comments VERY welcome!!)

Congrats on the 7 lb loss for the June challenge. It seems like you do a lot and you still seem to fit being healthy into your schedule. Good Job! :teeth:

Hello all!

DD and I are on computers in the first class lounge in DC. Our train is about 4 hours late as the dining car was broken and needed replaced in NYC. So, It's 9 pm and here we sit until 10:30+

6/25 - The train from ABQ was on time. the crew wasn't the most friendly, but not too bad. The bad part was the Bathrooms in our sleeper car (the whole car) were broken the first 18+ hours. UGH!!!!!! Had ice cream cake for breakfast (DS19 came over for his late bday as his mouth hurt too much the night before). Lunch when we got on was a salad w/ grilled chicken. dinner was salmon, baked potato, vegs, salad & dessert was a bit of strawberry torte. I stayed OP!!! Had way plenty of water. DD wanted to watch the Pacifier in the lounge, but no seats, so we watched "A series of unfortunate events" in our room. Up until 11:30 - no sleep yet.

6/26- DD slept in so I ordered breakfast to the room. I had about 3 bites of oatmeal and fruit. Lunch was salad again. dinner salmon - much better on this train & same extras. Dessert was chocolate mousse. Again OP!!! Went to bed earlier this time as we had a wake up call at 7 since breakfast would end at 9 and no lunch.

6/27- downhill..... Breakfast ok - egg beaters & croissant. Lunce a turkey wrap here in the station. Then we walked for 3.5 hours (DD was about to collapse) Walked from Union station to Washington monument, did the national archives, capitol building , then back. They gave us each $15 for dinner. Had bourbon chicken w/ lo mein, and bought cookies. I am going to eat one. OH WELL!!! Had a med starbucks decaf caramel iced macchiato. I will be about 5 pts over for the day. I'm not gonna worry about it. I can feel the sodium already setting in, tho. I've had lots of water and will have more.

My time on this computer is about up. More later about our Sears Tower lock down and the Capitol building evacuation.

Hope you all are having a great week!!

Hi Julie!

What dedication! Checking in on the road!
Great job staying OP and I can't wait to hear about the Sears Tower lockdown!

COntinue having a great trip!
Mike :flower:

Wow Julie - you have been soooooo busy. I am impressed at how dedicated you are. It is amazing how we can wedge so much into so little time. I hope you relaxed a little on the train.

Sounds like you are having fun on the train. It must be nice to relax a little and get away from the choas at home. ;)

Great job staying OP! That will make a big difference if you go off the plan a little when you are at your sisters.

Can't wait to hear about the lock down and evacuation. Enjoy the wedding! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Wow! I think the Capital was evacuated while I was in the American Indian museum in DC...I was totally oblivious, and went shopping...never heard a thing! Anyway, hope everything was cool. Sounds like you're having a great trip :)

Got back last night. Finally!!!!

Today is DS 16th birthday, so I got up to go buy donuts & take to gym for him & forgot to weigh. I REALLY don't want to, but..... Between over indulgence, not recording food & TOM which is due any second, I can FEEL the gain.

Am I worried about it? NO! I went, I enjoyed myself, and life goes on, any weight I gained WILL come off. As of today I'm back OP and will pick up the pieces.

I'll do bits & pieces of the trip report so I don't crash the site. So far today I've had 32oz water, 1 KK donut(5) and decaf. I'm meeting DS16 at Chick Fil A to buy him lunch before he works. He has gym from 9 - 1 & works 2 - 9, so we will do cake & presents at about 9:30 tonight.

What I did right since 6/25:

1. I drank my water(and then some)
2. I took Crystal lite to go and mixed it in my water. I also took a strap to sling my water bottle over my shoulder so I had it at all times.
3. I did not have even 1 soda, slushie, etc.
4. I did not have wine/beer in the club room ( I had 1 margarita @ Margaritaville - more to follow on that escapade)
5. I walked a kazillion miles.
6. I did not let DD get on my last nerve on the train.
7. I made reasonably sensible food choices most of the time, but not great portion control
8. I did some things I wanted to do and didn't just do what the rest wanted.
9. I used sun screen! (this is a HUGE change for me!)
10. I didn't buy (and eat) FUDGE! - but I wanted to! I walked in and out of those stores at least a half dozen times and stared at it.
11. Rented a Cabana for the day.
12. Learned how to use my new digital camera (a little bit at least)

What I did wrong since 6/25:

1. I did not keep good record of food after DH arrived.
2. I ate when it was meal time and not just when I was hungry. They wanted 3 meals a day + snacks. I did NOT need them, but had them.
3. When TOM cravings hit, I succumbed.
4. I ate too late at night.
5. I didn't get enough fiber.
6. I didn't take my vitamins regularly.
7. I had TWO pieces of wedding cake (typical cake with bavarian cream filling)
8. I had too many desserts/sweets.
9. I ate beyond full.
10. I walked, but got no other exercise, except 1 day of swimming.

I will update the above as I think of other things and come across them in my journal. They are a good reminder.

Things I noticed about me:

1. The swimsuit I bought to wear to discovery cove had "grown" in the month since I bought it. I had MAJOR wedgie problems.
2. I took all the shorts I had worn in FL on last summer's trip. They were looser. I actually had trouble keeping one pair up and could easily pull all of them off without undoing them.
3. I didn't get tired.
4. I could see my feet easily. I even noticed I could see the ground through my halter top (if you get the idea) and there wasn't a tummy in the way.
5. I wore halter tops at the parks and didn't feel like a balloon.
6. My feet didn't hurt or swell.
7. I visited bathrooms more - maybe the water, maybe the age
8. I wasn't too self conscious to be comfortable going down the water slide.
9. I do fine on my own or w/ the kids, but when DH is around, my willpower goes out the window.

More soon....

JULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're back! missed ya like crazy! And I am also glad you are back...can't you tell?

The pros and most of the notice-ments outweigh the cons in a major way! And I know how you feel. Cheerleading camp starts tonight...TOM is here. Good luck dealing.

Please tell DD that I thought about her the whole time I was at ALIVE, even with the massive sunburn I got at the concert...I could've gotten her a birthday present (signed poster of Superchic(k), maybe)! Yay or nay on that one?

Nice job and glad you're back! Suffering from train lag, are you? lol

Welcome back! :cool1:

Sounds like you had a good time and really it doesn't sound like you did that bad. It is good to hear that your spirits are up and that you are not concerned about any potential gains.

Doesn't it feel great to move around with ease on vacation and not feel tired all the time? It must have felt really good to know that you can get rid of some summer clothes and have new ones for next year.

Have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

The last time I updated the 'happenings', we were stuck in the Acela lounge in DC waiting for a train.

To digress a bit.....

While in Chicago, we walked around each block that was near Union station, twice. On the final trip around the Sears Tower block, on the parking garage side, a car tried to go in and all the alarms went off, gates down, etc. Police started running from who knows where. DD and I sped up a bit and were headed to the gift shop where she had earlier bought a bear, to look for a Cubs baby item for DNiece who is expecting. When we got around to that side, people were pouring out of the building and said they were evacuating. Not sure why, but we didn't stick around to find out.

In DC we walked around the back/mall side of the capitol building and were headed up the stairs to take pictures when literally DOZENS of armed police/S Service, etc came running out, weapons out and erected barricades and quickly got people way back down past the street. We were told there was a suspicious package. Sirens everywhere, bomb squad trucks, hazardous materials trucks, etc. We didn't stick around to find out details.
On this portion of the trip we saw the Capitol Building, sculpture garden, went in the National Archives, saw the Washington Monument, stopped in at the gift shop at one of the Smithsonian museums, and spent a lot of time in Union Station. Not by choice. DD had a slushie and I found a bottled light lemonade while we were walking. While waiting for the train I had my starbucks and 1 of the cookies we bought. I also had 5 11 oz bottles of water & 2 decaf. Guess what I did all night long???

We finally got on the train at almost 11:30 p.m. Had we only known it would be late, we could have seen more while we were out. Oh well.... There were less than a dozen of us boarding the sleepers in DC, so we chatted - met some nice people. An elderly couple with health issues from Oregon going to FL to see the grandkids 1 last time before the trains go away. They can't fly or drive. A guy who is playing in the world series of poker whose wife won't fly and an Air Force mom to be who had the same first & middle name (& spelling) as DD (Rebekah Ann). She & her DH both are scheduled to be deployed to Iraq 3 wks after the baby is born. Fortunately, her date to get out occurs 2 wks after so she is leaving even tho she'd rather not.

The Viewliner train was a new experience for us. Each small room has the standard 2 seats that fold into the bottom bunk, but the top bunk lowers, not folds out and there is head room up top as well as a window. DD loved it. The thing she didn't like was that each room has a toilet & fold down sink next to one of the seats - not smelly, just a bit unusual. She swore she wouldn't use it the whole way, and was a bit over concerned that when I stepped into the hall so she could have privacy, everyone would know what she was doing. It was very convenient for me in the middle of the night, however, after all the drinks I had between 7 p.m. & 11:30 p.m. My fav part of this train was that upper & lower had their own AC controls. I cranked mine way down and slept very good!
