Is there a best way/procedure in order to get your child into the JTA?

I am taking my 8 year old son in June and I know he will want to wave plastic lightsabers in the air (hey, I want to also)

Rope drop and then take the Heisman pose going through the park and breakneck speed while yelling at my son and fiancée "MOVE FASTER, OR WE WON'T HAVE FUN" is not an option even though it is for many other families

Unfortunately you'll have to do rope drop. It gets filled up for very quickly. The later you check in, the later the return time. A quick walk will probably suffice though :)

I noticed the day that I am planning on going to DHS is an Extra Magic Hours late night. That may or may not impact that event

When they revamped it last month they doubled capacity, both the number of shows and the number of kids in the show
So getting a spot is no longer the struggle it once was.
It still fills, just not really fast.
But, that doesn't mean you don't want to go early.
The reason now is so you don't waste an hour of touring time getting done with sign ups
And remember, they will open the park early.
My advice is be at the turnstiles about 45 min before posted park opening.
They'll open 15/20 min before that and allow you to walk in to certain points and hold you again.
Just head over towards the sign up location, which is the store next to Indy Jones show, and be ready to get in line as soon as they allow you to.
You'll enter the FP queue area for Indy show

Unlikely by very much.

Thanks this is helpful. We are going in a couple of weeks and I think my boys will really like this. I don't think it will be a problem getting them up and moving if they get to see Star Wars stuff :)

We were able to arrive at the park at 9 :00 AM ( a little after they opened the gates), had to go to GS to get new AP cards for the kids as they forgot their MB at home, and still were able to get a JTA time for my son. Granted, it was for 4 PM which kept us there quite a bit longer than we like to stay at DHS but he was just shy of his 13th birthday and we knew it was then or never.

I would not stress over it at all. They have double classes and have 15 kids per class running at the same time which is a show unto itself. lol
Enjoy!

When we went in Nov 2014 we got to HS just after opening. We went right over to signups but there were so many people ahead of us in line. We got in but it took about an hour in line. Next trip we'll definitely get there for rope drop just so we don't lose that lovely first hour of the park being open.
