I have been researching myself silly about FW :surfweb: . I'm hopeless when it comes to playing it by ear. I was looking through all of the stickys and saw they have a junior fishing excursion. I have never heard this mentioned before anywhere. Has anyone ever done this and do you know what it entails? I assume it is somewhat like the kids pirate adventure in that only kids go out on this. My son (who is ten) has only gone fishing twice in his life....once being this past weekend. He still has never caught a fish. My father bought him a new fishing pole and bait so we are all set to tackle the bass at FW. :thumbsup2 However, I REALLY stink and removing hooks from wiggling slimy fish :crazy2: and if he could do this with a guide it might not be a bad idea.

Last I heard the JR excursion had been stopped. It was a bream fishing guided excursion. You can fish anywhere there is water except on the docks and there are still the regular excursions.

If you want to double check call 1-407-wdw-play.

Thank you for the information! I guess I'll just bring my gardening gloves and pray I can get the hook out this time. :)

Pretty sure they did stop the Jr. excursions.
To bad that we won't be there, I would gladly let your son fish with us.
We do fish every trip we make to the Fort. You can fish ANY water you see at the Fort. It is catch and release. :fish:
I think it's fun for young people to experience fishing, some like to fish and some don't, but they should all have the chance to try it. It can be fun, educational, entertaining, and challenging too .

And the best part about fishing at the Fort is, how many people do you know can say, "I went to Disney and caught a fish!" :thumbsup2

I wish you were there too! I can't tell you how freaked out I am about getting the hook out of the fish. However, I would really like to get a picture of my son with his first fish....especially at Disney!

Get you some needle nose pliers, great for those tough to remove hooks. :thumbsup2

See! I would have NEVER thought of that! I'll have to add those to my packing list. Thank you!!

I'll have Born 2 Fish post you a tackle list tomorrow.

If you can handle night crawlers it's the best bait to use.

A quick tackle list , just the essentials :

fish'n pole
medium size hooks, I like to use size 4
small to med. size, lead sinkers
bobbers
night crawlers,,(Wal-mart has the best deal on worms)
needle nose pliers, helps in removing the hook from fish
(if you like) gloves to hold the fish while you remove the hook

you can fish anywhere you find water at the Fort,,canals, the lake, ponds.

one of our favorite places is the canal next to and hehind loop 300,,
up close to the lake there is a concrete bidge that cross's the canal,,fish this concrete bridge on both sides of it-right up against the concrete.

We fish this entire area, the canal, and the lake also.

The very best chance to catch fish will be early in the morning amd late evening,,altho I fish and have caught fish all during the day at times.

Happy Fishing Ya'll !! :fish:

I'd also bring a knife, if you catch a catfish or you can't get the hook out cut the line as close to the hook as you can, the fish will be OK.:thumbsup2
Just don't leave any line attached to the hook.

Thank you guys so so SO much for all your advice and help! I'll be sure to add sissors to the list! I have frozen shrimp my dad bought. I hope that will work for bait. :)
